We had two young children (8 and 10) with us and the staff were amazingly accommodating to let us change tables to a booth where they were more comfortable. The service was genuinely first class and the Orchid Room is so beautiful. Since you are asking, I will say that I had the halibut and I thought it was slightly too salty but that is my only criticism of the entire evening.
It is worth just going to the restaurant just to experience the splendor of the room. The pictures are great but in real life it is even more stunning. This somehow adds enjoyment to the meal. Starters were salmon tartare done two ways. This is simply to die for. Ultra fresh with wonderful flavour. Mains were the lamb. Beautiful subtle flavour and extra tender. Some of the best lamb I have ever had. The other treat was the vegetables that came with the meal. It was like somebody just picked them from a garden minutes before being cooked and served. The service is exceptionally good. They have an extended wine list to please everyone. A wonderful meal from start to finish.
Wonderful food and service. Great menu selections
Food was excellent and it was certainly worthwhile for our anniversary. We were well attended, food presentation was excellent.
Wonderful meal, spectacular service and amazing ambiance!!!
I took my wife and son to dinner to Orchids. Fabulous service and food, we had a great time! We will definitely be back soon!!
We had the snails and salmon tartare (two-ways) for appetizers. The snails were yummy with the garlic tortellini. The salmon was good, and we felt that the smoked salmon was a little better than the raw salmon. We had the lamb loin and the duck breast for the main course. This was the most tender lamb that we have eaten. It lacked the gaminess that you expect from lamb, so it tasted a bit more like beef. The duck was cooked perfectly and was very tender. We had an off-menu “pre-dessert” created by one of the kitchen staff that was so good, it should be illegal; it was a cheesecake with bourbon mousse and caramel sauce. My wife had the chocolate velvet cake with bourbon mousse, which was super-good. Michael (the sommelier) recommended excellent wines for our dishes. The staff is very friendly and we always have a great time!
We had an awesome evening – the food and menu were terrific, service was helpful and attentive, and the setting was amazing 1930’s architecture. The new chef is imaginative and excellent. The menu is fresh and a leap forward. Rack of lamb was a classic and excellent. The halibut was light, flavorful and perfect. They also accommodated a vegan diner with a great gnocchi Primavera. First courses and desserts also great. This place clearly keeps its rank at the top.
Truly a 5 diamond restaurant in all aspects. Service is excellent, perfect balance of privacy and attention. Food selection and presentation top level. Best lamb I have had in over 60 years of fine dining. One can understand why this is the best restaurant in the Hilton chain and the best anywhere in Ohio. Wine list is extensive and varied, but not overwhelming. Our bottle of Albert Mann was excellent and served at the correct temperature. The ambiance is opulent. We shall return.
Perfect setting and experience to celebrate our 10 year anniversary! The service was impeccable and the food from the new chef is beautifully presented, portioned and delicious. The vichyssoise was my absolute favorite but all other courses were amazing too.
The food was very expensive and most the meals are pretty small... that’s the negative. The positive is the food was FANTASTIC! The restaurant was beautiful and the staff was awesome. If you don’t mind spending the extra money then I definitely recommend Orchid!
Absolutely marvelous! From elegant handcrafted cocktails served by friendly bartenders to the polite and welcoming hostess, even before we were seated we knew this was going to be a memorable experience. Knowing the reputation of new Executive Chef Maxime Kien, we barely glanced at the menu before requesting the tasting menu with the associated wine pairings. Because the menu changes every day I won't describe the specific courses, other than to say they were as stunning on the plate as they were on the palate. The wine steward explained the pairings with knowledge and enthusiasm and the wait staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. I can't imagine a better venue to share a special occasion.
When we got there the temperature was too cool, but they seemed to have corrected that. My biggest issue is that the music was much too loud and not that good. Conversation, particularly for a deluxe location, was extremely difficult. Other than the Halibut being too salty the food was outstanding.
We took my mother out for dinner to this classic Cincinnati hotel dining room. It has been good always, and has maintained its high standards. This is not to say that it has not changed--it keeps up with the latest trends, without being trendy. The cocktail list was interesting, and the drink I ordered was very good. Every single dish, from appetizers to dessert, was delicious. The portions are moderate. An active athlete might want more food. But for our small group, the portions were wonderful--sufficient without stuffing us. We no longer live in Cincinnati, but this is a destination dining experience we keep in mind.
Great restaurant for a special occasion. It is high end with a creative menu. My one recommendation would be to request seating as far away from the bar as possible. The night we dined the bar area was full, active and noisy. Not rowdy, just noisy. Dampened the mood a bit. Additional decor is recommended to baffle the noise. Overall I would give it 4 1/2 stars.
As usual, terrific service, food and ambience. Well worth the extra expense
Orchids was amazing to say the least. The halibut entrée was the best halibut I've ever had in my life! All of the food was unique and prepared with special attention.
The only negative I would have is that it is freezing in the dining room....take a sweater!!!! =-)
I found it pricey for the amount of food they serves. I really love Sunday brunch. But won't go no more other days. It is not worthy.
One of our favorite restaurants anywhere. Superb food in an amazing, unique space. The usually excellent service was just a little subpar this time (timing a bit off and it was a little hard to get their attention once or twice) but still courteous and helpful. Excellent wine recommendations.
While perhaps not overpriced for such a place, still, for this part of the world it's VERY expensive. I don't think there's a main course less than $40.
The minor issues will not prevent us from returning, however.
Amazing. Wonderful experience.
One of the best restaurants in Cincinnati. Impeccable service. good food.
But music was way too loud. And the restaurant's temperature was cold enough to chill the red wine - wear a jacket.
Great food as always
Great place for a meeting
I love it here. I would be here all the time if I could afford it. The service is always perfect, the food is exquisite to look at and is an experience to eat. It is expensive, but it's worth it.
Our go to for special occasions for the last 25 years. Great room, great food, great service.
Excellent service, great meal, cordial staff. We were provided our choice of seating and the meal was pleasant
Food was good, well presented both in both in terms of being explained by knowledgeable waitstaff and well plated.
Two minor complaints, before the meat course the waiter asked if we wanted more bread, we said "yes" and that more would be right out. It never came.
I also ended up with a fly landing in my cocktail I complained to the waiter and was brought a fresh drink, but then changed for the replacement drink.
To celebrate my birthday and mother's day my mom and I both did the tasting menu, which was relatively expensive but in line with what you would expect at a top rated fine dining restaraunt. The staff were polite and friendly, if not the picture of silent professionals you get at top places in New York, and the food tasted INCREDIBLE. Unfortunately, the portion sizes were absolutely tiny - we both were still hungry after every serving, and the entire meal. Additionally, the pacing seemed thrown off a number of times, with some dishes coming IMMEDIATELY after the next, and others (particularly the desserts) taking quite a while in between. Again, the food was as good as anything I have ever had (particularly the perfectly cooked scallop), but the serving sizes were dreadful. I doubt I return, but if I do I certainly won't be going with the tasting menu again.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday. Food and service were outstanding - we were not disappointed. We hope to dine here again and soon.
Excellent experience, once again. My husband and I like to come here at least once a year for a special occasion meal. It never fails to disappoint, both the staff and the food are wonderful and a lovely treat!
We have dined at Orchids and have positive memories. This visit was a special thank you to good friends. The Art Deco restaurant and hotel are beautiful and take one back to the time of grand style and fine dining. The impeccable service and attention to detail is appreciated. However, we were disappointed in the food. We had 3 courses and went home hungry. The food was beautifully presented, delicious, but of reduced quantity. The halibut entree was tiny with only a small amount of chopped asparagus as an accompaniment. I am a small person with a modest appetite and I noticed. The entree was appetizer size. Dessert was delicious if a bit over promoted by the server. Then, the music started and any conversation with our friends was impossible. I am sure we will return at some point but I will have a sandwich ahead of time.
The food, the service and the ambience were truly outstanding.
The service was poor.
First, after we ordered we were told the bread was in the oven and would be right out
. Fifteen minutes later it was.
I ordered a second cocktail. Another 15 minute wait.
The appetizer was slow coming but nothing like the wait for the entrée.
While the food was exceptional, the service makes it very doubtful that we would return.
Graduation celebration. Food was great as was the service.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant and bar.
Superb service, waiter knew about everything on the menu in detail. Also knew about every wine we asked him about. Everything we ordered was picture perfect.
Great food and service.
However, it was kind of noisy due to the band and people talking around the bar.
For anyone who may concern, they do not take travel check.
Pricy - yes, but well worth it. Everything (food, drinks, service and staff politeness, the historic room) is absolutely outstanding! And watching how the staff treat the patrons is a true experience - every member will address you by name and no matter the member in your party you’ll all be served at exactly the same time and all the cloches will be raised in unison, presenting all plates simultaneously.
Great place to dine.
We love the ambiance of Orchids and always go for special anniversaries/ birthdays.... but this last visit wasn't as fabulous as previous ones. The food seemed to take extremely long to get to our table ( an hour after ordering) and the portion sizes were smaller. We all love vegetables and there were seriously three tiny asparagus tips as the vegetable. The staff is attentive and elegant, but this time it just wasn't the top of their game.
