Everything was immaculate. Waitstaff was friendly, incredibly professional, and detail oriented. Michelin star in the making.
I flew to Cincinnati from Florida specifically to celebrate a friend's birthday at Orchids...it was a "milestone" birthday and I was raving about our experience there 3 years ago. Planned for months, our group was sorely disappointed in the menu and presentation of the food (or lack thereof). Do NOT go by the menu they post online. No vegetables, even for garnish (i.e. a few asparagus spears, some pureed cauliflower, etc) It was 3 dried scallops with a dollop of something pink for one friend and two inch squares of "fat back". Two of us opted for duck. My "aged duck" was served with a garnish of sprout (one) and some white tiny block of something soft under two slices (and when I say slices, I mean 2-3 inch medallions) which we postulated might be "cheese"? Oh, and some "gravy" poured onto center of plate. The other person did not even finish her duck! Now, fortunately, the birthday girl had the fish, which she says was good...but it was only about a 3 inch square of fish. The "fried" mushroom which accompanied it she gave to us, as she does not favor mushrooms - tasted only of deep fried grease...no mushroom flavor at all. When one of the only fish you offer at a place like this is GROUPER, I can stay in Florida and eat that there! We all agreed the "free Gifts" of food samples was the best out of the whole meal. Two of us ordered coffee drinks after dinner...do NOT do this here. $15 for a COFFEE drink? Not sure what happened to the produce; but, I do believe Cincinnati has an Aldi's, if they can't afford to buy some some elsewhere! I (WE) will not be back. Outrageous prices for dollops of garnish and dried out scallops. None of us thought it was worth the price. The only saving grace is the historic surroundings; but you can see that without paying to eat at Orchids!
The best meal WE’VE. EVER. EATEN!
Probably not always noises, but on this night a lot of noise from bar area made it hard to talk at our table. Otherwise great.
We celebrated our anniversary at Orchids. I had perhaps the best lamb dish I’ve every tasted. I am so impressed with the new chef. My only challenge was the ambient temperature- wish I’d brought a shawl. We will be back again and again.
Anniversary dinner. Great spot.
Had larger group: 7 diners. Food was superb. Was a Sunday night during the snow storm so was quieter which was great. Beautiful setting with original art deco interior. Our entire service team was great, Ken, our lead server was very attentive to our needs and when members of my party inquired about some details of the hotel - he offered to give us a quick tour of the hotel area. Will definitely dine again
The Orchids staff made this a truly memorable occasion for our son’s 25th birthday. Everyone from the valet parking attendant to the hostess and servers were friendly, helpful, and mindful of making this a special evening for our son. Each of us ordered different selections for each of our three courses and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. I had a perfectly prepared Manhattan and a wine pairing with two of my courses...wonderful. Our server Pierre even took our son on a quick tour of the restaurant and nearby rooms to highlight the history and architectural changes through the years. In all, a very special evening.
Orchids always exceeds my expectations. Aerin was gracious and so knowledgeable of the area and the cuisine. I will call him for my next reservation. Such a special getaway. Thank you staff for an exceptional weekend. Our waiter was Tate and he was also exceptional. The staff loves their job. Can't wait till the next getaway. Kathleen L
Tonight was the first time I have been disappointed at Orchid's, and I've been there many times. The food was subpar and definitely not a good value. The service was downright bad. Dirty dishes and wine glasses sat for way too long. I'm sad to see my favorite restaurant become a shell of it's former self.
Elegant, wonderful and fabulous.
Our mother’s 89th birthday. My brother in law flew in and was a surprise guest. The hostess and servers were aware of his surprise and made it work perfectly.
Service was impeccable, kind courteous and servers were very knowledgeable. Food was fabulous!
Thank you for a very special evening!
Wow! What a lovely experience all around. An unbelievably beautiful renovation of a fabulous art deco building downtown Cincinnati.. makes for memories.
The service was perfect, not too much hovering but always there when needed.
I started by ordering the bartenders old fashioned in the lounge which is adjacent to restaurant. Nicely done with the simple syrup at a minimum because it is frozen in the one ice cube (see photo).
The meal started with a parsnip based palate cleanser, just a very small amount. I chose a salad of warm salad greens with three savory blue cheese beignets. Yummy.
Second course was braised veal cheeks. Different but wonderful. Portions are very proper, just enough...not too much because there is another course to go. The sommelier made a red wine recommendation to accompany this course - can't remember now but loved it.
Last course or entree was Tile with asparagus puree, chanterelle mushrooms and lobster bites. Wow. It was one of those meals that you wish you could eat just a bit more. Again a wonderful wine accompanied the Tile.
No dessert. No space!
I felt it was a wonderful value for the overall experience and can't wait to do it again!
Orchids is the best in Cincinnati. Their dining room is the best, their service is the best, dinner is the best and dessert is the best. Eating there is the definition of luxury - especially as far as service. The individualized attention you receive from the service staff is hard to find anywhere.
Orchids is the best dining experience in the city and beyond. The newly updated menu has outstanding choices: we enjoyed the potato salad, popcorn grits, skate, ribeye, and toffee dessert- all were unique and amazing. Orchids had the best team we’ve ever seen! Great job, correct pace, and you can’t beat the atmosphere..we’ll be back and consider Orchids our favorite.
Elegant setting. Good but not extraordinary food. Good service with some minor glitches. It was a late Saturday night and perhaps some special occasion, but the bar was very crowded and noisy. Perhaps because of that, the music was loud and conversation at the dinner table was harder. Not all the creative food combinations we ordered were a complete success, but that is a risk worth taking as overall the food quality is high.
As usual, the Palm Court did not disappoint. Spent about 1/2 hour at the bar listening to the live music and then went to the Orchids side for dinner. The service was excellent and you can’t beat the soaring Art Deco architecture of the room. This is our favorite special occasion restaurant.
Everything was wonderful!!! Five stars!
The food was extremely overpriced. The service was very slow. The waiter was very attenive, but I believe the issue was with the kitchen.
Unbelievable special occasion experience!
Exceptional service, great food. Pricey , but worth it.
One of our best restaurant experiences in Cincinnati and we dine out often (top 2% of open table users). Service was by far the best. Excellent wine recommendation. Most importantly, they went out of their way to meet the vegetarian requirements for one of us and had incredible selection for the other.
This room has pretensions that may be difficult to meet. In our case, the duck dish teetered on disaster: the purée bed served to absorb residual fat, while the pomegranate sauce had only visual impact. This dish needs a rethink. The waiter was quietly competent but presented the menu options in terms of his personal favorites—homey but not relevant. All in all, the sides were exvellent—ambience, music, amuses bouches, bread, service—yet the core just good. Xmas fatigue?
The 8 course tasting menu was amazing! My husband and I come to Cincinnati every year during the holidays visiting family and we always make an evening out at Orchids. The food and service are always impeccable. Definitely a must in Cinci.
The staff at Orchids is exceptional to go along with the fantastic food. We have waited to see how things were shaking out following the change of chef's and the menu is divine !!! The presentation was outstanding , the room decorated beautifully for the holidays and the staff overwhelmingly friendly and free valet parking ! A true treasure to be enjoyed all year long.
Just a wonderful experience!
The best place in Cincinnati for a special occasion. No other restaurant in town has this level of service.
GREAT FOOD. GREAT PRESENTATION. GREAT SERVICE
Group of 8 friends out for a wonderful dinner — and we were all very disappointed. Food went from so-so to could not finish. The Wagu Beef was dry, Branzino fish was covered in a nondescript sauce, Sweetbreads had strange flavor—not nice. The Pineapple Upside Cake, which the waiter recommended was 2” long x 1/2” deep x 1/2” tall, served on a very large plate (which made it look all the more ridiculous) and cost $14 (over $16 once you add on the 20% gratuity for party of 8). Service started out good, but after apps were served, went downhill. Dessert took over 20 minutes to arrive while we sat with no water and no attention. Each couple spent over $200 with alcohol and food so we expected more. Orchids used to have amazing food, but we are sorry to say that was definitely our experience.
My gourmet dinner club had our annual Christmas dinner celebration at Orchids on a Friday evening during the holiday season. It took 4+ hours to be served 2 courses! The pace was glacial. We do not know why because no one could or would explain what the problem was. We do not know if the kitchen was simply overwhelmed, the service staff was new and incompetent, they were understaffed or a little of all of the above. When the food did arrive it was very good and beautifully presented. We did wine parings with our selected courses but when the course did arrive, the wine been consumed long ago! It was very disappointing as we selected Orchids based on its reputation and our own experience with Orchids in years past.
As usual Orchids was wonderful. The food was delicious. The service was outstanding. The art-deco setting is very beautiful. especially at Christmastime. We love it all.
It was way too noisy. Menu was poor Few good choices. I have been there for every 20 years and this was the worst. I wont be back snd neither will any of my guests
We've gone to Orchids for several special occasions and it's always a great experience, this was no exception. It's expensive (which is why we limit ourselves to once per year), but the overall experience is so amazing.
Great drinks, great food (they make their own honey!) and in a beautiful space.
My only gripe on this visit was that it was a bit slow to have our orders taken, I was wondering if they were short on servers. However, once we got our orders in, all went smoothly!
So lovely! Do the wine pairing for sure.
It had been 20 years since I had a dining experience comparable to my evening at Orchids, and 50 years since I had chateaubriand. As an event planner I grew accustomed to the Amuse Bouchée, timed lifting of the cloches, intermezzo, changing of plates and flatware, excellence in unobtrusive but vigilant service. Retiring years ago, that environment was in the past....until our evening at Orchids. I was beyond delighted and felt I was back ‘home’. It was an exquisite experience in a magical moment of time. Thank you!
Exquisitely executed dining with each course staged perfectly. Dining prior to our annual office Christmas party, we delighted in every aspect of the evening.
I thought for the price the food would have been a higher caliber. The strip was flavorless. The snapper was ok but the soy sauce was way to salty. The grits were excellent and the salmon app was also good. We would come back to the hotel but not so sure about Orchids.
I do not go to fine dining restaurants often. My "fine dining" experience is typically Brio (and equivalent priced places) a few times a year. I decided to go here for my one year anniversary with my Girlfriend and was absolutely blown away. This is by far the nicest restaurant I've ever been to and it has set the new standard that I will judge all other fine dining restaurants against. The atmosphere was incredible and the live band complimented perfectly. The staff treat customers as if they are royalty. Of course, with fine dining comes expensive prices, but if done correctly it is absolutely worth it. My girlfriend and I got the "Taste of Orchids" which is 45$ per person. Please note, their "Taste of Orchids" menu was different than what they had online. Including to this, many places state that they only have a live band on Friday and Saturday, but there was one when we came on a Wednesday (Which was a huge surprise). I cannot recommend enough. Thank you for helping make our one year anniversary special.
Amazing food. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and when we arrived they had a card on our table wishing us a happy anniversary. Food was incredible and they talked about each wine paired with each course
Wonderful as always. Enjoyed the rack of lamb and micro greens salad. Fine French red at reasonable price. Orchids is the most beautiful room in the Midwest.
