Orchids at Halekulani Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated our parents’ anniversary. The restaurant provided a table with a sunset view as requested. The service was attentive but not intrusive, friendly and professional. The food was excellent and in the right amount and the signature coconut cake was the perfect ending to a perfect evening.
We had not been to Honolulu or Orchid's in a few years. It is just an unbelievable place to have dinner; ambiance, service food are all great. We took friends to celebrate their anniversary. It was their first time there, they were impressed. We finished the evening with a cocktail in the bar. Everything there was spectacular including the music.
The most sumptuous brunch in Hawaii - maybe the planet. It's pricey, but a brunch that includes suckling pig at the carving station and mounds of perfect sashimi on the seafood bar is necessarily going to be expensive. Don't waste your time on the bacon and eggs and omelets that you can get at any brunch; focus on the interesting salads, perfect fruit, seafood bar, nicely prepared hot foods, carvery with turkey and prime rib as well as the pork, and fabulous desserts. Wonderful beachside ambiance; enjoyable live piano; servers that seemed to literally read my mind. Make your reservation way ahead. Note: champagne is not included and is expensive; order a glass of still wine instead.
As usual the service is outstanding, without question. Everyone that came by the table addressed us by name. And even better, they all pronounced our last name correctly. Even though it is pronounced as it is spelled, many, many folks destroy it.
The drinks, house cocktails were great as usual. sure they are pricey, but the taste is worth the money. I try to mimic the recipes at home, but don't quite get there.
I had the Lasagnette for lunch. Only made it half way through the entree, just got full. But it is a deconstructed lasagne that is all seafood taste. Great taste. I didn't mention, but the lunch menu is an appetizer and entree. Well worth the cost when considering the taste and I couldn't finish it all but had a great leftover. My wife loves their Lobster Bisque. But the new delivery didn't quite hit it like the previous versions. Not that it wasn't good, but the previous version was a home run; current version is a hards triple. Either way, can't beat the haupia cake. Never had anything like it anywhere else. Has never disappointed.
What's not to love here? The instant you are seated, you know you are in good hands and you softly settle into a relaxed, civilized, elegant venue. Waitstaff is top notch, friendly and professional, anticipated every thing. There are few places where you can give yourself over completely and know that you will be treated to a flawless dining experience. Gentle smiles, live music, expansive ocean view, delightful and well-presented menu. Memorable and rejeuvinating. Mahalo!
We had a family lunch there to celebrate our son coming home from overseas and it could not have been a better venue. The food was excellent, view outstanding and the service could not have been better: experienced, professional, engaging and with great knowledge of the offerings of the restaurant.
Orchids is located in what was an old private bungalow right by the sea. The setting is lovely and we got to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian music from the live band performing at the restaurant next door. The food was tasty and beautifully presented and we enjoyed the good selection of wines. The service was warm and attentive and we were pleasantly surprised with the complimentary signature dessert of coconut cake to help celebrate our anniversary!
Wonderful in every way. Our reservation was for 5pm when we opened so I were able to have a first row outdoor ocean view on their covered patio. The service was kind and professional -- toward both my wife and I. We shared both the lobster bask and a salad to start. Both were excellent and generous portions when split. The Nebbiolo wine by the glass was exactly what we wanted -- full bodied and fruity with light tannins. It was so good I had a second glass with my entree. For entrees my wife had the seafood lasagna, which was amazing and looked nothing like lasagna. I had the fresh crab raviolis in a light, flavorful cream sauce, which was great, but I was very happy when my wife gave me more of her dish. We were both pretty stuffed after all that, so we could not add desert. So they brought out two small, wafer thin perfect little cookies for us with instead.
For first time Honolulu visitors the street map to Orchid is more complicated than it needs to be. Here is simpler way: Walk on "the strip" passing lots of designer stores, then make a left on a very fun looking street with lots of shops on either side. That street dead ends into the hotel containing Orchid Restaurant.
From superb service to delectable cuisine, lunch at the Orchids was a 5-star experience! My guests and I enjoyed the beautiful ocean-side view while relishing the outstanding food and service. The price is reasonable considering the ample-sized two course meal, attentive service, lovely ambience and validated parking. I would definitely return for this fine dining experience. Hana Hou!
