Orchids at Halekulani Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated a belated anniversary dinner at one of our favorite restaurants... The menu has changed but the ambiance, service and quality remain superlative. I had the lobster bisque and filet with foie gras, my wife had the baked salmon. They offer a great selection of wines, both by the glass and bottle... Finally, dessert was a coconut cake (from Orchid's) for my wife and a chocolate bombe tiramisu for me. Highly recommended!
There were too many server errors for such a high end establishment. The food was okay, not spectacular. Steaks were not cooked as ordered and overdone. Also, the easiest thing to prepare was also messed up. My green tea was a light green color and had no taste like drinking hot water. I also ordered their famous Coconut Cake and the waiter completely missed my order. Unbelievably riddled with mistakes the entire evening. A server spilled cream and water on one of our guests and also mixed up the after dinner coffee and tea. I was so embarrassed since we were treating another couple who was visiting for the first time and went here specifically because it was a 5 diamond restaurant. Was way overpriced for the errors that were made. The only plus was the location near the beach and the view. You can’t count on that only. Highly doubt we will ever return to Orchids at the Halekulani. Should’ve picked another high end restaurant instead.
We have now eaten here twice and the food and service have been exceptional on both occasions. The first time was with a large party of ten and the second time it was just two. Both times we were treated as treasured guests and the food was consistently delicious. I would highly recommend this place. Eat on the patio if at all possible.
Went here for their lunch menu and was surprised on how fancy and delicious the food was. Definitely recommend this place for a lunch date or a lunch date with friends. The prices are high but worth it if you’re in the mood for something relaxing and different. Plus it’s a 2-course entree so you do get your moneys worth.
We always love coming back to Orchids. The wait staff is kind, helpful, unobtrusive and professional. They do whatever needs be done to ensure your needs are met. The food is excellent. And, the view, unsurpassed: Diamond Head, surf, sand, sunset. The lasagnette, carta fata, lobster salad and coconut cake are standouts. Really, you can't go wrong.
Service was insanely slow. We sat down at 5:30pm. Three tables around us sat an hour later and got their meals and left before us. We had the set pre fixe menu. First course was cold. And it was Brie cheese baked. Seems like it sat out for a long time. We left dinner at 8:30pm. We had to ask the waiter why things were taking so long.
My wife and I had breakfast and dinner at this elegant restaurant with a very pleasant environment. Breakfast was wonderful with excellent service. For dinner the service was adequate and not up to expectations at a first class hotel like the Halekulani. We would return for breakfast gladly, but for dinner with some hesitation.
We celebrated our parents’ anniversary. The restaurant provided a table with a sunset view as requested. The service was attentive but not intrusive, friendly and professional. The food was excellent and in the right amount and the signature coconut cake was the perfect ending to a perfect evening.
We had not been to Honolulu or Orchid's in a few years. It is just an unbelievable place to have dinner; ambiance, service food are all great. We took friends to celebrate their anniversary. It was their first time there, they were impressed. We finished the evening with a cocktail in the bar. Everything there was spectacular including the music.
The most sumptuous brunch in Hawaii - maybe the planet. It's pricey, but a brunch that includes suckling pig at the carving station and mounds of perfect sashimi on the seafood bar is necessarily going to be expensive. Don't waste your time on the bacon and eggs and omelets that you can get at any brunch; focus on the interesting salads, perfect fruit, seafood bar, nicely prepared hot foods, carvery with turkey and prime rib as well as the pork, and fabulous desserts. Wonderful beachside ambiance; enjoyable live piano; servers that seemed to literally read my mind. Make your reservation way ahead. Note: champagne is not included and is expensive; order a glass of still wine instead.
As usual the service is outstanding, without question. Everyone that came by the table addressed us by name. And even better, they all pronounced our last name correctly. Even though it is pronounced as it is spelled, many, many folks destroy it.
The drinks, house cocktails were great as usual. sure they are pricey, but the taste is worth the money. I try to mimic the recipes at home, but don't quite get there.
I had the Lasagnette for lunch. Only made it half way through the entree, just got full. But it is a deconstructed lasagne that is all seafood taste. Great taste. I didn't mention, but the lunch menu is an appetizer and entree. Well worth the cost when considering the taste and I couldn't finish it all but had a great leftover. My wife loves their Lobster Bisque. But the new delivery didn't quite hit it like the previous versions. Not that it wasn't good, but the previous version was a home run; current version is a hards triple. Either way, can't beat the haupia cake. Never had anything like it anywhere else. Has never disappointed.
