Oran Mor Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Have been to this restaurant every year since I can remember. As far back as Second Story. Always a very good and interesting meal. And prices, while expensive, are in line with other top restaurants on the island. However, it's insulting to be charged $4 for a few pieces of bread/roll. Really? Think I'm done there.
The food is prepared as well as anywhere, with wonderful layering of tastes and textures in each dish. Unfortunately our visit was made very unpleasant by a group of 8 loud, obnoxious, boorish, middle age supposed adults from off island that spent the evening being loudly "funny" in their mean comments to each other. The size of the room and their volume made it impossible to ignore. We should have asked to be moved, and next time we will.
The best food on Nantucket, period. The food arrives hot and the perfect degree of done. The main ingredient of each dish is accompanied by several others which are all wonderful in their own right, but more importantly add layers of flavor and complexity to create a whole which is much more than the sum of its parts. We enjoyed our meal first bite to last!
We were seated at a table with a view of the harbor. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The meal was delicious from start to finish. Everything on the plate was bursting with flavor. Highest recommendations for the grilled beef and the roasted duck. It's easy to see why this is one of the top rated restaurants on Nantucket.
We hadn't been to Oran Mor in several years and forgotten how much we like it. I love the antique feeling of the dining rooms and how one room leads into another, allowing for a feeling of warmth and intimacy. Our server Pam was attentive and friendly. The food was wonderful and expertly prepared from start to finish. The menu is good combination of traditional while still being innovative. We will not wait so long to come again!
We've been to Oran Mor several times. We requested on Open Table and on the phone a table in the cozy bar by a window as we've done in the past. When we arrived at 6:15pm (early on purpose to ensure a bar window table),both tables by windows were unoccupied. But we were told they were reserved and were sat elsewhere. When we left at 7:30pm, one of those tables was still unoccupied.
We felt we had been treated shabbily. The food, as usual, was excellent. We had a very professional, friendly server. But the initial experience with the hostess colored our experience. Will we go back, we don't know.
Oran Mor is our favorite restaurant on Nantucket! The service is outstanding ! Our favorite server is Theo. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. On this occasion, my husband ordered tuna tartare with beets. He loved it. I ordered foie gras two ways and with fig. It was amazing! We both ordered the duck for our entree. We highly recommend this fabulous restaurant!
Nantucket has so many restaurants, this seems to be over sold for what it is. Odd chicken dish, cold halibut and extraordinarily small portion for vegan guest, although we called ahead of time to ask. We found many other places that impressed more with the care of food and drink as well as amenities and cost the same or less.
We were seated immediately and the server was very helpful. The appetizers were delish, especially the oysters with the cucumbers and salmon caviar, as well as the torchon of foie gras. The fish main dishes were also very good- the striped bass and the fluke. I highly recommend Oran Mor for a special meal while you are on Nantucket.
Have been coming to Nantucket for vacation with the family the last 15 years. Each year my wife and I go out for one nice dinner out on the town. For the last six or seven years it's been Oran Mor. The food is always consistently excellent and the ambiance is great. Lots of small rooms so it's never noisy. The quality of the wait staff varies from year to year, and in a place like Nantucket all of the restaurants fight for the same talent, so that should expected .... but the food never disappoints.
Oran Mor is our favorite restaurant on Nantucket! We ate their on both our first and our last nights of vacation! On this occasion, I ordered the pea soup for my appetizer, and my husband ordered the salmon pastrami. We also split a fresh tomato salad. The tomatoes were from Bartlett's Farm on Nantucket. For my entree, I chose lamb which consisted of a fabulous lam loin chop in addition to homemade lamb sausage. It was served with couscous, but I just asked for fresh vegetables instead. My husband ordered a sirloin steak. It was outstanding! It came with potato wedges and rapini. We highly recommend this amazing restaurant!
We have been dining on the island for years and hadn't been back to Oran Mor in quite a while. Not for any particular reason other than it just being off our radar. We just had an absolutely wonderful dining experience there a couple of nights ago. The food was absolutely delicious. The yellowfin tuna tartare with cilantro pesto was outrageous. The Pekin duck sublime. Every bite was better than the next. We will surely be back and applaud the chef/owner for creating a menu and experience worthy of this stunningly beautiful and very special island.
Oran Mor Bistro is our favorite restaurant on Nantucket! On this occasion, I ordered a foie gras appetizer that came with 2 kinds of foie gras. It was beautifully prepared and presented. My husband ordered a salad with locally grown tomatoes from Bartlett's Farm which were served with burrata cheese and basil. For my entree, I ordered soft shell crabs. They were served with thinly sliced locally grown zucchini and some crabmeat on top. My husband ordered fluke with homemade gnocchi. It was gorgeous! The service was wonderful! We highly recommend this restaurant!
My wife picked Oran Mor for her birthday celebration because she knew it would always be outstanding. It fulfilled all our expectations and more. David, our waiter, was exceptional. Nothing on Nantucket is inexpensive, but if you're going to spend a bundle anyway, may as well get the most for your money, and this is the place to do it. Reservations fill up fast, so book way ahead during the busy season. Eating in the bar area is great too if you can snag a table or seat there.
The food was excellent; the menu varied but the choices were not imaginative, esentially the usual choices for Nantucket, but exceptionally well prepared. Interesting take on things such as the salmon pastrami. The service was good, but a few things lacking, e.g., no spread or dip for the bread (which was mediocre), no cream or sugar offered for the coffee. The front of the house needs some improvement.
Starting with the charming interior, mysterious paintings and cozy atmosphere, our interest was piqued from the moment we walked in. We ordered a half bottle of wine while reviewing the menu. Lemon scented bread and focaccia soon arrived. Both were fabulous, I knew we were in for an amazing meal ahead. Both starters were delicious including a simply dressed salad and salt cod fritters and an asparagus and sun choke soup. Both were beautifully presented. Main courses were equally delicious and attractive. I had the scallops, perfectly sweet and seared golden, my husband had the ribeye, a rare treat for him. Though our vivacious and funny waitress tried to steer us to a lighter dessert, we opted for the banana bourbon bread pudding with caramel sauce. Two bites would have been perfect, but we couldn't leave it behind. We made it to the bottom of the adorable mason jar, unusual apparently, and yes, our eyes glassed over in a torpid stare, we ate too much! We took care of that with an extra long bike ride the following day. Thank you Oran Mor. It was a fabulous evening.
Wonderfully memorable meal. Service didn't rush us at all. The meal was memorable and inventive: peanut butter and jelly with Foie gras - who knew and why not before? Pork belly and egg - wow! Once again, a wonderful meal. Thanks and enjoy the winter! Can't wait to see what the menu is like in spring.
First time there (also first time on Nantucket). Researched best restaurants and was glad to find Oran Mor. Dinner was delicious (food could have been a bit hotter in some instances) and such original and innovative combinations. Service was very efficient and our overall experience was delightful. Will return on next visit to Nantucket.
This was my first visit to Oran Mor, despite being an island resident. The prices had scared me away until restaurant week here on Nantucket. I had been missing a true gem. The menu was limited because of restaurant week, but that did not matter. We started out with a locally grown heirloom tomato salad that was crusted with pecans and delicious. We then had sea scallops done to perfection, followed by Peking duck, which was simply the best I have ever tasted. Dessert was a simple apple cake that was unique and a perfect ending to a superb meal. All portions were small, but perfectly proportioned. We left the restaurant feeling pleasantly filled. The ambiance is understated elegance, like a fine French bistro. Save up your pennies and go!
