ran Mr is a delightful bistro in Nantucket, Massachusetts that serves up a concise menu of gourmet delicacies. The number of menu items is kept small to ensure that perfection can be attained in its composition. Local suppliers are used for the majority of ingredients to assure freshness and quality.
Appetizers at ran Mr include Berkshire pork belly, roasted Pocomo Meadow oysters, Maine mussel escabeche and beet rosacea. Pasta choices include lobster gemelli, littleneck clam garganelli and duck Bolognese rigatoni. There are six entre choices at ran Mr including honey Peking duck, chicken ballotine, pan roasted halibut and linguia crusted Atlantic cod. Just be sure to save room for the ran smore which is head and shoulders above the campground type.
Right up there with American Seasons, Ships Inn for atmosphere and food. Service was impeccable. Highly recommend.
I have been an Oran Mor fan for a long time, and am never disappointed. I dined with 2 friends on a rainy night, and from the welcome where the hostess took our soaking wet umbrellas and our equally wet jackets, to the wine recommendation, to scrumptious entrees to the delightful desserts we were nothing but pleased. It is truly a pleasure to dine at a nice place with out the "attitude" that you find in some Nantucket establishments.
My husband and I had an anniversary dinner at Oran Mor when vacationing on Nantucket. Everything was wonderful -- imaginative menu, corner table by the window, attentive service, never rushed. The food is locally sourced, which is a trend I love in restaurants these days, and was absolutely delicious. The only thing that kept me from giving the food 5 stars is that there was a little bit of grit in my oysters on the half shell, which was disappointing. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone. Kind of expensive, but it's a special experience -- and everything on Nantucket is expensive!
A just plain wonderful restaurant. Great dishes, with accompaniments that are creatively prepared and interestingly integrated with the main attraction. Oran Mor has probably gotten me to eat and enjoy more things that "I don't like" than any restaurant I've ever patronized. Always surprising in a good way.
Our visit was a disappointment and we will not be going back, nor will we send friends. Waiter less than competent.
Oran Mor is one restaurant on the island that we make sure to visit each time we are here. The menu is very diverse and the preparation is fantastic. We had the trio of fois gra and the duck breast and lamb chops. Each dish was excellent. Cozy place and not a large bar. Very popular so make reservations.
I believe that Oran Mor has a following, and it's mostly by "people in the know". It is among The Best restaurants on the island, for sure. People don't automatically think of Oran Mor first, however, and I think it's because it doesn't have a strong street side presence; its upstairs over two shops, so people can't really be enticed by a visual, like the other restaurants around town. Many beckon you with outside dining, or umbrellas and side patios... Or they're housed in an important historical building that's plain to see... But this restaurant is by all means as good or better than the places you might think are the best here. We had the most unique creative & delicious salad of tomatoes and feta. A++ dining from start to finish!!!
This restaurant is amazing. The restaurant itself is very attractive, broken up into several smaller rooms so no one dining area is too large or noisy. The service was attentive and the food!! The heirloom tomato and burrata appetizer was out of this world and my salmon was so delicious as was my husband's swordfish. Can't recommend this place more highly.
Overall, the food was good, but the experience was just OK. My wife and I went here in September to celebrate our anniversary. I get that this is Nantucket and this is a fine dining establishment. However, the prices here were very high and when my wife and I ordered relatively small, relatively fewer, less expensive items, the waitress made us feel a bit uncomfortable. The table next to us ordered lavish, multi-course meals and expensive drinks and wine and we felt they were treated differently from us. I guess I get that, but it's still a bit off-putting.
The chef is very creative with sauces combining unique combinations. This place is popular and rightly so. Prices are high but not out of line with other fine restaurants on Nantucket. We have been often and request a window in early evening so we can watch activity downtown. The back room is dark and gets loud so avoid that if possible.
This chef consistently serves the best dinners in Nantucket. This past Labor Day weekend we dined at the Galley Beach, Straight Wharf and Oran Mor. By far this dinner at Oran Mor was the best. We stopped going to Toppers due to disappointing meals every time we went. The tasting menu was not available this time, but we are glad it was not available because we enjoyed our a la carte choices.
My family and I dined at Oran Mor this Labor Day weekend and continue to be impressed with the quality of the cuisine and the professionalism of everyone who works there. We love eating there and all agree is has become our favorite Nantucket restaurant. Normally I order fish all the time when I dine out on Nantucket but this time I had a pork chop that might have been the best meal at the table. Loved every bite! Looking forward already to our next visit.
Really exceptional food, delightful decor, lovely staff - a real find in the heart of touristy downtown Nantucket area!
From the bread to the entrée the food was delicious and dishes were creatively prepared. Service was a bit disjointed as other reviewers have noted but the food is worth the trip.
We were a party of 4 and the food was almost outstanding, the foie gras was a hit with 3 types on the plate with one being seared, the baby green salad found the mark as well. Onto the main event, the duck was prepared to perfection, the bass dish did not disappoint, the salmon dish was perhaps the best dish of both our evening and maybe even the entire trip - the one disappointment was the ravioli dish, it was served in what appeared to be a broth of some kind and for a vegetarian this option was the only thing on the menu, what a bummer. Last but certainly not least was dessert and a must try is the brown butter dessert, in a word - delicious. Service was just ok and not really warm, this is an opportunity for this Gem of a restaurant.
Oran Mor is an exceptional restaurant. The food, the service and the staff were perfect. If you want a meal to remember while on Nantucket, eat at Oran Mor!
Very disappointing!! We were seated in the rear room of the restaurant where service was very slow. The bread was cold and colder in the center. The pork dish on the menu was overly sweet and the fish dish was very dry. Excellent homemade ice cream.
This is my third dining at the restaurant in as many years. Very good. One of our favorites and first stops when visiting ACK.
Best meal on Island this year! They are consistent in presentation and quality. Can be noisy.
We had just about given up on Nantucket restaurants as most are overpriced and not worth it. This is certainly an exception
This is the gem of ACK. Amazing wine list, beautifully prepared dishes with local ingredients. Great service and you're not jammed with the other tourists.
Oran Mor is a gem. Tucked away near ferry terminal in Nantucket, this modern bistro boasts inspired cuisine, a notable wine list and romantic setting that, for my money, blows away many of its more illustrious counterparts in town. We were particular impressed with the seasonal dishes, locally sourced ingredients, and harmony of flavor in each dish. Each time we come we vow to come again next time we venture to this island paradise 30 miles at sea.
Our dining experience one recent Sunday night was memorable. We were able to move our reservation from a late-ish 9:15 to 8:30 thanks to an attentive manager who diligently called my cell several times (service on island can be sporadic) to change the time. Thanks Oran Mor! Our party of three was treated to outstanding food and amazing service by a terrific waiter who made sure we enhoyed one of the best meals in recent memory. We felt as though we were the only ones in the place! Appetizers were delicious (one was off menu), and the lamb, fluke and sea bass entrees were served simultaneously and prepared to prefection. Bursting with flavor and freshest ingredients. Dessert was also outstanding. Nantucket is fortunate to have Oran Mor!
Oran Mor continues to be the best restaurant in Nantucket for food and service. Especially noteworthy was our server, who has been there in years before. Her suggestions were very helpful and honest.
This restaurant is consistently one of the best if not best in Nantucket. Food, Wine, and Service are outstanding. We come here often
If you are traveling to Nantucket this is a restaurant a bit out of the way - not far - but off the main thoroughfare. The food was very good and the staff engaging. Try it.
Third time at Oran Mor (two separate visits to Nantucket four years apart) - each time got a seat on the balcony - still as AMAZING as the first visit!!! We will always remember our meal and service at Oran Mor. Bon Appetite
The food at Oran Mor Bistro was amazing! Had some difficulty with seating, as we sat late, and were seated in the bar area and served by the bartender. When we asked to be moved, they mentioned the kitchen was closing and we needed to order. Felt a little rushed for how many people were still in the restaurant. Would go back again, but would recommend making sure you have an earlier reservation.
Food and service were outstanding. The chef is very talented and makes excellent use of the seafood and fresh ingredients for which Nantucket is noted. Meets and exceeds its stellar reputation.
Oran Mor is just simply reliably delicious. Our specific table request could not be accommodated, but the restaurant did their best to come up with something close which was much appreciated.
Food was superior. Service was stellar. Would highly recommend!
Amazing dinner. Can't say enough great things about this restaurant. Food was amazing. Waiter was amazing. A little warm the night we were there and they got new plates that the staff was having issues with because they were a bit larger than they were use to. But the food was so fabulous who cared.
Our dinner experience was simply amazing! The food was fantastic with such different flavor combinations. We highly recommend this restaurant and will visit again soon!
Very good restaurant, wonderful special occasion place. Try the Hangar Steak. Every single bite of every dish was delicious. I can't recommend it more.
We had dinner here last year and happened to be seated at the same table this year. The service is still excellent and the food was delicious. We ordered the burratta and the tuna roll special to start. The tuna rolls were unbelievably delicious. My boyfriend says it was his favorite thing throughout our trip. The burratta was different than we expected. It was still good, but we enjoyed it more last year. I ordered the fluke entree and it was delicious, but I wish there was more to my plate. The gnocchi and Swiss chard was awesome but I wanted more! My boyfriend ordered the hangar steak and it was awesome! The portion size was also filling. For dessert we ordered the strawberry shortcake, it was good but I wouldn't order it again.
Starting with a great selection of bourbon and scotch, and moving to inventive appetizers, the food is wonderful. Very fresh fish entrees and finished with the lightest and fluffiest key lime dessert ever. Great and knowledgeable staff makes for a perfect evening.
We have been coming here for years, but not recently. So we hoped it was still as good as we had experienced. It was, and another couple that we brought loved there food too. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Highly recommend it. Smallish rooms but charming.
The food was very good, however, the portions were inadequate. My wife and I both left still hungry after an appetizer and main course.
Food is exceptionally good. Staff can be a bit chilly. Overall excellent.
Our waitress was very nice. Ambience is just OK. We were in a center room with a few tables. I had a sashimi appetizer that was fantastic - super fresh. My entree fish was also fresh - but it had a hard sear on it and the oil didn't taste very fresh or high quality. Over-all a good meal. But not great.
