Ophelia's on the Bay Ratings and Reviews
Always good food. Just disappointed this time I had a special request to sit outside for our friends first visit to Sarasota. I believe because we were a party of three we were not given a table outside as most of them were set for parties of four. I made the reservations for 6:15 weeks in advance thinking that would be early enough for a table outside. The hostess was definitely not willing to work with me at all, disappointing.
My wife and I had a wonderful Valentines dinner at Ophelia's on the Bay. We also had a the best waitress her name is Cassie. We our returning on Feb. 24 for dinner with our son and his wife to celebrate his birthday. We are hoping to get the same waitress Cassie, she is so great at her job! The food was excellent the drinks were supurb, and your special dessert was out of this world.
We have dined at this restaurant several times and have always enjoyed the food and the overall experience. This time was a major disappointment It began with us being told our reservation was for 6:45 PM and not 6:30 PM as shown on Open Table. We were told to wait in the bar and that we would be seated as soon as possible. The bar as very busy with one barman and whilst waiting one was directly in the way of the servers. Total chaos. On being seated we were surprised to see that the restaurant was half empty and that there were very few servers. Our service was sporadic and inefficient. The restaurant lacked any sense of ambiance ! What is more is the food was a let down especially the lamb.Everything on the plate looked brown and beige and that was how it tasted. This was not a positive experience for a pricey meal . We will not return
The Best. We had a perfect dining experience. The outdoor dining was scenic and relaxing, looking out onto the waterway and wat Hong the ospreys. Noise level low. Our waitress Cassy was a gem...pleasant, attentive but not bothersome, earnest in wanting to make our experience right. We all selected different menu items and everyone was happy with the food, delicious. Cooperative with making some slight menu changes due to diet reasons. Wine selection good. Best dining experience we had an all accounts in a long time.
I ordered salmon and it was raw in the center, barely warm and very mushy. They took the food back to the kitchen and my guess they microwaved the fish. When it was returned to me the second time the outer edges were warm, but the center was still very red and mushy. I ate a few bites and could not eat the under cooked part and they agreed to take the salmon off our bill. No visit from any management.
Wonderful setting right on the water. The service was delightful, friendly and extremely helpful. Extra care was taken and inquiries made because one of the diners had severe nut allergies.
We were there for Sunday brunch which was started with complimentary mimosas. I had the shrimp scampi which came with 5 jumbo and perfectly cooked shrimp. It was delicious.
Dessert was a help yourself buffet table with a selection of fruit, cookies and small pastries.
As an out of town visitor I was sorry I would have to wait for my next visit to Florida to return, which I definitely will.
The waitress made our visit very enjoyable. Service was very prompt and she had a great personality. She also made the drinks. We sat outside in the shade which I recommend on a sunny day and the view is beautiful of the bay.
The brunch was delicious and I really enjoyed the crab cakes eggs benedict.
It was our Anniversary. We were greeted with Happy Anniversary several times during our visit.
Waitress was wonderful. Chatty enough but did not bug us. Very prompt and gave us great service.
Food was amazing. Grouper and grits was wonderful and the filet was the Best steak i have had in ages. Desert creme brûlée was also fantastic.
Add in a nice view and a not too noisy environment and we will be back.
Our new favorite restaurant.
Although the food at Ophelia's is quite terrific by itself, the view outside from the deck overlooking Little Sarasota Bay makes a meal there just awesome. The waiters there are very helpful and pleasant as well. I think it is easily one of the best restaurants in Sarasota!
Fabulous food and great service. At reservation time there was not an option to select inside or outside dining. When we arrived our table was set outside so we accepted it. Outside seating is a bit uncomfortable, no pads on the chairs. As we were finishing our dessert the wind started to gust, making for a less than satisfactory conclusion to an otherwise good experience.
Having been there before, we were very disappointed. The food was excellent as always. However, we made the reservation thru Open Table and specified that it was a birthday. In the past, when we would go for birthdays, the server would attire at the table already knowing that it was a special occasion and would bring glasses of champagne. This visit, on Wed. Feb. 07, the server was nice enough, but never acknowedged that it was a special occasion, would disappear for long stretches of time leaving us to sit 20+ minutes with empty wine glasses. He never offered dessert at the end. If you will look at our reservation on Open Table, you will see that we requested a special table and indicated that it was a birthday. These special touches, plus the excellent food, is why we decided to spend a birthday at Ophelia’s, but were very disappointed. Brenda & Ron Gaffney
Since I live in Sarasota, I would eat at Ophelia's 6-12 times per year, but two things keep my visits to annually (or less) when out-of-town guests are here and insist on going: 1) They do a TERRIBLE job of managing reservations. On our wedding anniversary, in spite of specifying both the occasion and desire for an outside table, we had to wait almost an hour to get our table. On this most recent visit, even though I had spoken to the restaurant twice about the specific area outside we wanted our group to be, we arrived to find an inside table ... had to wait almost 15 minutes to get our outside table set up; and 2) Ophelia's does a great job with seafood, but a TERRIBLE job with meats (a real problem if you have a severe allergy to seafood, as I do). Since I don't come often, I forget that they overcook all of the meat, so to get medium-well you have to ask for rare. I ordered pork tenderloin cooked medium, and it was so dry and white inside as to be barely edible. Ophelia's would be worth the drive and the expense if it did a better job managing the front of the house, and offered more non-seafood selections (or at least did a better job of preparing the few non-seafood entrees it does offer).
We had read many good things about this restaurant and were not disappointed with our experience. Everything- the way we were greeted upon our arrival and shown to our requested outdoor table, the setting, the friendly and knowledgeable service, the handcrafted cocktails, the daily menu and wonderful meal from beginning to end, all helped to make our evening very special. We will definitely be back!
My wife and I were looking for a special place to celebrate our anniversary. We had heard good things about Ophelia’s from several acquaintances as well as most On-line reviewers. We were not disappointed on our recent visit. We dined outside bayside on the heated patio, with a lovely view of evening sky and water. Our Server Cassie was so friendly and knowledgeable. Service was stellar and the food was both creative and delicious. By far the best experience during our vacation. We reccomend Ophelia’s to anyone looking for fine dining in the Siesta Key area. Dont be put off by the “traffic jam” out front. The valets do a great job with a small parking lot!!
We have been going to Ophelia's for over ten years. In the last couple of years we have been disappointed in the food and increased prices and went less often. However, last night the food was outstanding and the service was phenomenal. We will now be regulars at Ophelias again. Cassy, our waitress was fantastic.
Had a special daddy/daughter date night and it could not have been better. The atmosphere, while a bit loud inside, was beautiful. I had scallops with a bacon jam and bearnaise sauce that was out of this world. Best of all, though, was the service. Our server, Cassie, was fantastic, welcoming, pleasant and had a great smile. We will be back!
Reservation for 4 was immediately acknowledged. Table ready. Liz our waitress was knowledgeable, knew menu details, provided outstanding service. Tuna was extraordinary. Lobster/fish dish was delicious, nicely presented and ample serving. Pricey yet worth it.
