Open Sesame Ratings and Reviews
I really like the concept of this restaurant. Its always a lot of fun. On this last visit I went for lunch time. My food arrived and it was lukewarm. It was still tasty. Ordered brown rice but I'm pretty sure I received white rice Waiter forgot to bring my coffee but after I mentioned it, it was brought right away and I was not charged. Waiter was friendly. Overall , it was still a good experience.
The food was tasty, but expensive!
Two of us got the build your own stir fry, the basic charge being $15 which included the vegetables and sauce! The meat for the stir fry was $5.00 each, we were under the impression the meat would be $5.00 total, the rice itself and the Nann bread are each charged for seperately. The variety of meats, rice and sides was wide. Though I would like to say one of my ingredients was missing from my dish when it was returned.
The stacked seseme Chicken Salad was very good. The salad was large enough to be a meal in itself. My mother was able to take some home for lunch the following day.
Kung pao chicken was spicy, and spicy was desired. My husband enjoyed it.
We also tried the Brownie, Chai Cheesecake and Wan Ton Bananas, all of which were greatly enjoyed and devoured.
The tables and seats needed more thought. There was no leg room for two short people, the seats in the booth (which was raised) was not ideal for a wheelchair, and was quite uncomfortable.
To get the wheelchair into the restraunt we had to go out, around and come back in through the kitchen entrance, and they were very kind. Our server was wonderful and attentive, he kept coming and checking on us, refilling glasses, made sure we had all we needed but did not hover or impose. Balanced our care wonderfully which I have noticed is sorely lacking in other establishments.
We had tried to make the reservation for Bolero using the internet link, and wound up with reservations for Open Seseme due to the two restraunts being connected not only in the same building but using the same app/site. Not knowing this was the situation I thought as I used the link from the site itself our reservation was with Bolero. This was quite disappointing on the one hand, and a huge flaw in their system.
We had dinner for a couple birthdays and as 3 servers we knew we were going to be complicated. Our server was wonderful. She got stuck with us after our first server had to leave and she dealt with all our requests perfectly and we had a wonderful evening. Thanks to the great staff at open sesame we will be back.
We had a decent meal (not great) at Open Sesame this Friday. The Singapore noodles were very good. The reason I rated the food at a 'good' level is that one member of our party added a protein to his dragon noodles, and did not receive an adequate portion of this add-on. When the waitress was questioned she came back with info, and it confirmed that the dish was shorted on the protein. The bill was not adjusted. Desserts were very good. The service was adequate. I did tip 15%, but held back from my typical 18% because there were a number of times we were just left. Also, we weren't asked about our mains at all.
The rice was mushy in our stir fry. I had heaped on the garlic and ginger and other flavors, but the food didn’t come out very flavorful at all. We were on the wild rose detox and thought this would be a good place to go. But the quality of the food was poor and quite costly.
Love Open sesame. The food is always great! the last outing however the service was really really slow. It was not too busy but I feel our waiter had more tables than what he could handle in order to be efficient. It took almost 30 minutes to get our bill. Despite the slower service ( and i should add its never like this so it was just a one off) i would still go back and recommend to other people. It is one of the best places to eat in my opinion.
We love open sesame and go regularly however we eapically love their New Years menu they do and we’re very disappointed they didn’t do it this year. It was also very less then ideal that we were in a small walled off red corner of the restaurant with a family of 2 parents and 4 screaming kids when the rest of the restaurant was almost empty. Love the restaurant and will always go back but will possibly go elsewhere for New Years if they arnt doing the special menu they normally do.
Usually our favourite place to go. Except the last two times it was uncompfortably cold.
The last time it was 15.4 degrees when we got there and only 16.4 when we left an hour later. Had to warm our hands in the bathroom sink , twice.
It's my wifes favourite place to go, but today when i offerred to take her there, she said no.
We went there for a Boxing Day meal. The decor is amazing but unfortunately they didn't bother to heat the restaurant up and it was very unpleasant the entire meal. They said the heat had been turned really low over Christmas but despite this excuse it still made for an pleasant dinner (minus my company of course) .
Every time we come here the foods amazing but the service sucks especially with 2 people because we always ask for a booth just personal preference and every time we get there they put us in a little tiny table and we have to ask for a booth again and when we ask they seem like they don’t want to give it to us and our waiter seemed like she was in a rush and didn’t want to serve us and it’s like that almost every time we come and I’m just sick of going there if that’s how it’s going to be every time
We were unhappy to have had to wait 15 minutes from when we were seated until our server arrived to greet us and take our drink orders. The restaurant then was unable to make the drink I ordered from the menu.
However, we had a nice seat near the open fireplace (thankfully cause it was cold in the restaurant) and the food was incredible. Our empty appetizer plates remained on the table a little too long, and upon chatting with the person who came to settle our bill, it turns out it was a “slow” for a Sunday, which was suprising as the service was not great. The food though was delicious and we likely will return for that reason!
We had a group of 8 , for my youngest daughters Birthday so there was an 18% gratuity added to the bill , which is fine . But I feel like the service was awful because of it being automatically added regardless of the service . The restaurant was not very busy . Probably at 50% capacity. Our server seemed annoyed anytime we asked for something. I ordered a jug of sangria, which took 15 mins to get . We received no other drink refills. This is the first time I have received such poor service . So I will try again , only because this is my daughters favourite restaurant. But I will avoid getting the same server .
My 11 year old wanted her birthday there she had never been there so we reserved a table for 5 she was excited to go we were seated at a table in a corner and my daughter who was wearing her birthday crown was not even acknowledge in any way our waitress who was a younger lady didn't bother to mention anything about her special day just business as usual bearing no smile or enthusiasm my older son who is a server at movies was going to ask her to smile or at least look the part because he knows I'm an above average tipper after supper she placed a dessert menu on our table and asked if we would like anything no mention of a birthday anything maybe your establishment didn't òffer any of the such I guess we will never know in closing she was a little disappointed and as parents we usually try to make there birthday a special occasion none was made from your establishment and as parents we usually ask our children where they would like to go for suppers or special occasions I'm assuming open sesame will not be on there top ten choices thank u Ian
