Open Sesame Ratings and Reviews
We were unhappy to have had to wait 15 minutes from when we were seated until our server arrived to greet us and take our drink orders. The restaurant then was unable to make the drink I ordered from the menu.
However, we had a nice seat near the open fireplace (thankfully cause it was cold in the restaurant) and the food was incredible. Our empty appetizer plates remained on the table a little too long, and upon chatting with the person who came to settle our bill, it turns out it was a “slow” for a Sunday, which was suprising as the service was not great. The food though was delicious and we likely will return for that reason!
We had a group of 8 , for my youngest daughters Birthday so there was an 18% gratuity added to the bill , which is fine . But I feel like the service was awful because of it being automatically added regardless of the service . The restaurant was not very busy . Probably at 50% capacity. Our server seemed annoyed anytime we asked for something. I ordered a jug of sangria, which took 15 mins to get . We received no other drink refills. This is the first time I have received such poor service . So I will try again , only because this is my daughters favourite restaurant. But I will avoid getting the same server .
My 11 year old wanted her birthday there she had never been there so we reserved a table for 5 she was excited to go we were seated at a table in a corner and my daughter who was wearing her birthday crown was not even acknowledge in any way our waitress who was a younger lady didn't bother to mention anything about her special day just business as usual bearing no smile or enthusiasm my older son who is a server at movies was going to ask her to smile or at least look the part because he knows I'm an above average tipper after supper she placed a dessert menu on our table and asked if we would like anything no mention of a birthday anything maybe your establishment didn't òffer any of the such I guess we will never know in closing she was a little disappointed and as parents we usually try to make there birthday a special occasion none was made from your establishment and as parents we usually ask our children where they would like to go for suppers or special occasions I'm assuming open sesame will not be on there top ten choices thank u Ian
We planned a birthday dinner for my girlfriend, with 10 of our closest friends. We had a very average experience for what we had planned. It took us 45 minutes to get our bowls for the stir frys. The food was pretty good, but overall experience was underwhelming.
Not bad but not great. 2 small spring rolls for $8.00???!!! Wine was good value. Too much sauce on my food. Watch out for hot peppers burried in the rice bowl. My friend choked on one :( had to return the dish. Not sure if I'd take the drive out to the south go again.
I was alittle upset with when we went to open sesame this time because we reserved the private room but when we got there didn’t end up getting it we had to sit in these uncomfortable chairs and then they told us you could only reserve the private room with a party 6 or more when we have rented it with 2 before so I was alittle upset also because during the whole time we where there no one sat up there and they told us the table we had we had to be out by a certain time which we only had an hour in the table and then we had to leave and I was kinda confused because I thought it was first come first serve
The service and food were spot on, unfortunately the table beside us had two crying children unde the age of 3, even our server was uncomfortable as this was going on, 2 hours off and on crying was a little much, we made 7pm reservations to bypass the rush. The food and service was very pleasant, will go back again.
I was out with my partner and another couple. We had a good time together. The server was friendly and patient, although we were looking around for him at times as things took longer than anticipated. The food was tasty, but both my stirfry and my coffee were not hot enough.
Good was awesome (as usual), but server didn't take our drink order for 10 minutes after we arrived - he said he didn't see us there. After he took our drunk order, our appetizers arrived before our drinks or even before we received water. We had food and no beverages.
Great food, we have come multiple times, but this time the service was very poor.
Hello. While we enjoyed the food I felt the mandatory 18% gratuity will deter me from coming again. If it was a full service dinner I always tip appropriately but to be forced to pay an additional 45 dollars I feel was excessive. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review your restaurant.
We're a fan of the Smuggler's franchise, but when we switched from Smuggler's to its sister restaurant (in the same building with slightly different offerings) we were underwhelmed.
Getting reservations was easy. We used Open Table and I left a note that it was for my wife's birthday. It's nice if the restaurant makes a little notice of such an event. When I mentioned to the waitress that it was my wife's birthday, we got a "Oh, happy birthday" and that was the extent (so I guess "little notice" really means LITTLE notice!).
Food was clean and hot but lacking in flavour. The waitress made a presumption on the bill and asked if it was alright - when we indicated we wanted it a different way (although it was exactly the same price) she sighed heavily and went back to set it right.
Not a terrible experience, but with more options in Calgary I'd choose something else. I'd go to one of the other venues in the Smuggler's building or something near by.
My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary. Open Seasame is something we've enjoyed together many times and we always have great memories there so we chose the restaurant for that reason. It was a Saturday night and very busy which we expected. However, our server seemed rushed and not put together. She forgot a few things and wasn't very friendly. Also, I'm assuming because of how busy it is, my noodles were undercooked. It was not a big deal, but a small let down from the quality we know Open Seasame provides. This won't stop us from going back any time soon!
