Absolutely everything was spot on with our meal. From the service, to cocktails, to appetizers, to main course, to desert, and special coffees. A beautiful gem to find. Well done - 5/5
Excellent food and service.
Very creative menu with many choices. Service was phenomenal as was the food.
As my wife and adult children have severe allergies, Open Range has always looked after us so that we feel safe dining out and not have to worry about the food. Andy is always a must as he is the epidemy of service. That is not to say Greg and the others are not a treat as well!
Thank you fo being our special place to dine!
Open Range is very representative for good meal and nice talk with friends.Service is nice and friendly. We actually like it !
This continues to be one of the top restaurants in Calgary for me. Known for it’s steaks, especially the porterhouse, it also offers a great variety of other main courses. I had the duck, which was amazing! I would have trouble going back and not ordering it again, but there are other meals I would like to try there too. My colleague had the elk, which he enjoyed as much as I enjoyed the duck. We didn’t have appetizers or dessert, but we did enjoy an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon that was featured. I wish I remembered the name. Sorry. Excellent restaurant. It had been a couple of years since I had been there as I live in the SW but I won’t wait as long to go back the next time.
The food was good and so was the service.
Romantic, balanced and amazing service.
Enjoyed the Valentine's fixed menu. We each ordered three courses which we split up to include two appetizers, a salad, two mains and a shared dessert. Service was excellent and the room offers a very comfortable feel.
We have always had lovely dinners at Open Range. We will go back. The wine list is very nice and reasonably priced. The food is generally excellent. The service is excellent. We had a very nice table near the fireplace and enjoyed our conversation with each other, our server and the fellow at the next table who we have seen a few times previously. The menu has a number of game selections, as well as fish and fowl. The desserts were rich and decadent. We love this place
Food was great. Room was very nice. Service was polite but missed opportunity as we sat with empty glasses for much too long.
Our weekly date night
Had an amazing New Years Eve dinner! Our dishes were flavourful, our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly.
The food was tasty and inventive. Good use of the local produce on offer. Between four of us we ate elk, two cuts of bison, and arctic char, accompanied by many delicious preparations of corn and potatoes. This is Calgary in January, so the fresh greens were sparse. I had a side salad with delicious pickled apple and blue cheese; great flavour but a bit hard to eat, it sort of sprawled across the plate, great big leaves had to be cut before eating. I think there was a bit too much concern for the presentation here.
The pace was a bit off. Starters came very quickly but then we waited ages for the mains. Our server was polite and apologized for this, but it was quite a long gap.
We agreed that the highlight was my bison short ribs. I order short ribs whenever I see them, and these were as good as any I've had. Sticky, sweet, falling apart, full round flavour. They were on a delicious bed of grits with an excellent biscuit. My wife had the arctic char, beautifully prepared, and a side of asparagus with manchego.
All in all it was a good meal. Obviously at a place like this meat is going to be the main event (and the meat was very well cooked in all cases), but we would have preferred to see a wider range of vegetable sides. Our main dishes were also slow, but the food was great.
We decided to say goodbye to 2017 in style, so opted for Open Range. The food was amazing, the service was outstanding and the ambiance was just right. Will be back before long.
Excellent food. Found it to be a bit pricey for quality. Latte was not very hot. Service was excellent.
This was the second time we have been to Open Range and were not disappointed. The food, surroundings and service are great.
We always enjoy dining out at Open Range. The food and staff are both great, and the menu choices are varied enough there's always a nice option. On this occasion, we both had the featured dishes, which were very good.
Amazing food and service. I highly recommend. Loved the décor and atmosphere. Great for a date night, special occasion or just fun dinner.
Had a great time with friends Saturday night. Cozy, warm atmosphere with great food. Dessert special was fabulous. Great service. Wide choice of mains and wine. Highly recommended.
Walking into Open Range gave me a western type feel. It has taxidermy on the walls, nice fireplaces and very quiet atmosphere. The menu had a small selection but very focused on organic type food (buffalo, lamb, beef). The steak that I had (peppercorn steak) was terrific, the best I have ever eaten. The staff was really friendly. Great place to take a date or quiet evening out.
Recommended by a few friends, finally had the chance to visit. Convenient location and a cozy, if dated, setting. Food was OK, a little too much sauce on the meat, overwhelming the delicate flavour of the game meat. Value isn't quite there either.
Good service. Have been here before and had a server who had an attitude and was very unaccommodating re dealing with the bill. We were a large group and he left us unsatisfied. Thought we would try again for the food. This last visit the server was great. Nice ambiance. Food this last time seemed overpriced and the elk was dry. Other dishes at the table were uneventful which was disappointing considering the cost.
We have been here several times and are on the hunt for elsewhere.
The food was decent but really not worth the price. The decor is quite stuffy; this is not a place for a relaxed date. The main negative thing that really turned us off was that the manager was quite rude to us. He snapped at us when we moved tables and remained unfriendly. The waitress was nice enough but I wouldn’t go back.
The food was outstanding and our server, Amanda was just the right mix of fun and professionalism. Will definitely return!
Overall everything served was awesome. Our server was quick and knowledgeable when questions were asked. Our 13 year daughter loved the Duck breast. Awesome little place. Next up Big Fish!! Thanks guys great time tonight.
We are here on a Tuesday and tried some of the tacos and they were amazing. We also split the porterhouse which was huge and tender and delicious. The service was wonderful, our waiter was knowledgable, cheerful, and helpful but not intrusive. Fantastic meal overall.
Amazing amazing amazing!!!!!!
Amazing food with simple presentation. Price is great for quality and portion size. Love the decor! Perfect place to relax with some well-made food.
Great food and very rustic using game meat in their menu. Casual but in a fine dining atmosphere. Only drawback is the lack of parking. But worth the trip.
This was the final meal of a gourmet trip across Canada and it was a great 24 oz. porterhouse steak dinner for two. Outstanding friendly service, good wine and perfectly cooked meat. Our #1 choice for dinner in Calgary.
La nourriture est excellente, les produits sont frais, le service est courtois et les portions sont adéquates. Il y a une bonne sélection de vins pour tous les budgets.
Un petit bijou dans le quartier Renfrew.
The ambiance is very nice and relaxing and the food is always exceptional.
The food and service were amazing! Will definitely be back!!
This was our second time at Open Range, the first for our anniversary a few months ago and it was a wonderful experience. Our good friends wanted to celebrate, so they asked if I would make a reservation here as they have been numerous times.
Unfortunately, we were left feeling somewhat disappointed. The enchiladas were dry, the rib chop was tough, and the service was ok at best. Our friends are quite reserved, and they didn't want to make a fuss about the food; I'm prone to bring things up right away but they asked us not to, so I acknowledge that we didn't provide the opportunity to make things right immediately. Part of their reluctance was our server- She was sometimes accommodating, but I think she was trying to be edgy and maybe a bit funny or something, but her attempted level of "comfort" with us mostly came across as unprofessional and a bit rude (she rolled her eyes and acted unimpressed with us a number of times).
When it came to pay the bill, we had 2 cards for free wine or beer from our anniversary dinner. I had them sitting on the table all night but she didn't see them, and when I brought it to her attention, she said "you can only use one of those", despite it not saying so anywhere on the card. I said "I'm sorry, where does it say that?" but she walked away.
So to summarize, we won't be hurrying back. Our first experience was SO good we were really excited to return, but unfortunately it doesn't seem that there's consistency with food quality or service.
The Stampede inspired menu was tempting - we indulged in the corn dogs which were amazing. The entrees we ordered were all excellent and Shannon provided wonderful service. We would come back just to see her but there are a number of items on the menu that we have to come back for.
This is the 3rd or 4th time that we have dined at Open Range food was very good. However, my wife did not care for the mussels I thought they were great. The main entree was very good and I cheated my diet and had dessert which was awesome. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My second time there, and it was as good as it was 2 years ago! A local introduced it to me and it is now where I take people when I am in town!! Great food done right accompanied by superb cocktAils.
Very average. I felt the prices did not reflect the flavour of the food
