The service was excellent! I ordered the hamburger and my husband got the Reuben. Both meals were outstanding. We came to the Sheraton for a meeting and just happened to eat here but we would definitely come back, even without a reason to be in the Sheraton.
Overall impression is that this is the type of restaurant that relies on hotel guests to keep afloat. We had a breakfast meeting there and it was all just so-so. I would not want to bring someone here for the food or the service. It is just convenient if they are staying at the hotel.
We made reservations for the Mother's Day Brunch and we were very happy that we did. The event was very beautifully planned. The food was amazing, there was so much to choose from, the dessert options were pretty as well as delicious, and the staff were all very polite and attentive. The ice sculptures were also very beautiful and the single rose gifted upon leaving was a very nice touch. Thank you for making Mother's Day so special, we will definitely be returning next year!
We booked this reservation for Easter Brunch based on the menu, price provided on OpenTable of $29 per person, and the description that it was hosted in the 1906 Restaurant. When we arrived for our reservation we were informed the price was $42 per person. And then we were charged a mandatory 18% gratuity FOR A BUFFET!!! The food was decent, the ambiance was terrible as it was held in a convention ballroom. Our party of 4 was seated at a huge round table with seating for 8 and was located next to the service hallway where there was constant traffic through the doors. Our reservation was at 12:30pm by 2pm the staff was starting to take things (table tents/signs/ salt and pepper, the lilies) off tables and stack them on a table next to ours when they were supposedly still seating people until 2:30pm. Very unprofessional... Not a good experience.
On the menu the dishes all looked really really good, but once they're actually presented you tell that they were a miss once they hit your taste buds you could tell but they are compensated with a lot of salt. Overall food quality was mediocre at best. I'm a bit of a foodie so I would much prefer to go a myriad of other places around KC to get my upscale foodie needs taken care of
My husband, father, and I went to O.P. 1906 for dinner on Saturday night during restaurant week. The restaurant week menu was delicious and definitely worth the value. I ordered the Brie and Apple Empanadas for my appetizer. They were not as sweet as expected and had a flavorful balsamic caramel sauce on the top. I am so grateful I ordered them. For dinner, I ate a perfectly cooked medium rare steak with horseradish butter. I also loved the mushroom bread pudding! It an understatement to say the O. P.'s chef is a valuable asset to the restaurant. You must go to this restaurant and soon!
Our server was warm and friendly. She was able to steer us through the Restaurant Week menu and provided wine information. We hadn't been to this hidden gem before (located inside the Overland Park Sheriden) however, they provided a fantastic array of options for KCRW. My sea bass was delicious and the starter apple and brie empanadas could have been a delicious dessert as well. I would gladly go back to try non-restaurant week fare as well.
We decided to go to OP1906 for lunch during Restaurant Week and are glad we made that decision. I had the Meatloaf Sandwich which came with fries. The sandwich was very good and the fries were seasoned well. Our friends enjoyed their meals too and are going back soon. Our server came back to our table several times to make sure everything was okay. The place was crowded but everybody seemed to enjoy their meals.
Excellent and attentive service. Was very empty buy it was a Monday night and is located in a hotel. The seafood dishes and dessert were the winners. Really inventive, fun, and flavorful. Steak was not worth the price (items on plate were described better than they were executed). Would go back for the other items on the menu though.
A group of friends and I selected restaurant from 2017 KC Restaurant week list. The flavor of the food was good. However, the portion sizes were very small (not sure if this was just because of restaurant week) for example the jerk chicken entree, appeared to be 1/2 of a butterflied chicken breast (not whole breast) over a little white rice bean mixture. The burnt-end shepherds pie was served in a 5oz ramekin (mostly whipped potatoes), and the salmon with brussel sprouts contained only brussel sprout flakes . The appetizers and desserts were similarly small portions (The waffle brownie, was 1/4 of a belgian waffle, and apple butter cake was 2 small rectangles).
My husband and I along with friends dined at OP1906 during Restaurant Week. We were very pleased. I ordered the blackened scallops as my appetizer and the scallops were delicious. I wasn't sure that I would like the grits that accompanied the dish but was pleasantly surprised. I must have liked it as I ate every last bite! The pork medallions as the entree lived up to the hype I had heard from others. I enjoyed most of my dessert -most, because I was stuffed as were my husband and friends. The service was very good also. We will be back!
This was one of the few restaurants open on Christmas. The food was fine but the price was high considering the service. I am a vegetarian, and they have limited options. They would not make substitutions on the Christmas menu, so I ate a salad. The server was attentive, and we did not have to wait long for our food. The other guests at my table ordered prime rib, and the waiter never asked how they would like it done. The meat arrived ranging from bloody rare to well done.
Horrible! It took 50 minutes to get a chews tray that had 2 small pieces of cheese for 4 people AND a little did of some kind of trail mix with Cheerios in it! Steaks over done with no presentation at all. Gave us a free dessert that had been frozen then thawed out with drainage of some kind. This place needs to shut down and start over.
My wife now has a new favorite dish in KC. That's all that really matters, but we both very much enjoyed all of our food, from the entrees to the appetizers, all the way to the delicious crusty bread that unfortunately left us too full to even consider dessert.
The only thing really lacking at OP 1906 is ambiance. It suffers from being a "hotel restaurant" in the fact that a) not many people eat there (it was basically empty on a Friday night), b) those who do are usually weary travelers, often with kids for whom the menu does not cater, and c) it's kind of burried behind a bar... to the point that when we were standing practically outside of it, we didn't see the sign and had to ask where it was.
The other issue they have that hurt the ambiance is the staff. While our waiter was excellent... polite and helpful, the rest of the staff came across as less than professional. I imagine it probably had to do with being bored.
The entree prices were on par with other area restaurants of similar quality. The appetizer and cocktail seemed a little pricey to me, but not enough to prevent a return visit... We just might have to skip the drink next time.
The ambiance issue is really a shame because the food is, in fact, excellent. This deserves to be a hopping place. Of course, that might be to the detriment of the hotel if they have a hungry guest who can't get in.
We were visiting from out of town, with family for both an 80th birthday and Mother's Day. We opted for this restaurant instead of the adjacent brunch. It could not have been a better experience!!! Almost like we had our own personalized service, with excellent food. Great varied menu.
We dined at OP1906 for Valentine's Day and were very glad of all the places to go we selected this restaurant. We had dined there before and were very pleased with the food, the service, and the entire experience. We had all that again for Valentine's Day! And a delicious Red Velvet Tiramasu as well! Great evening!
My wife and I have enjoyed OP 1906's special Valentines dinner for years. This year we were not interested in a full four-course meal and ordered off the regular menu. My salmon was very delicious and my wife's fillet was very tender and cooked to perfection. Veggies were delicately seasoned and not overcooked. It initially took a while for the staff to take our order and bring out bread, but our water goblets were never less than half full. The atmosphere is nothing remarkable, but it is a quiet, pleasant place to talk during dinner. At $80 plus tip for two, it was a fair value but not a bargain.
The food was some of the best food I've ever had! The service was outstanding and never once did I feel rushed to hurry through diner to accommodate additional reservations. They paced the meal just right and the food was perfect for the price. I will definitely go back and try the Easter brunch or Mother's Day brunch!
