Ooka Japanese Sushi & Hibachi Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
Had date night with my wife to get out of the house after having our 2nd child recently and Ooka was everything we were hoping for!! Our server, Alex, was personable and knowledgeable about everything on the menu and suggested some great choices!! We each had the Omakase selection which is the Chefs tasting menu, and the chef did not disappoint, with Lobster Ceviche, Kobe beef, a Salmon sashimi tasting, Sobu noodles with seared scallops and filet sous vide to end. Will definitely be going back and soon!!!
I've heard a lot of things about this restaurant so we decided to bring our family member for lunch to celebrate his birthday. The food was just O.K. The hibachi meals were salty and oily. All you could taste was the soy sauce and salt. The shrimp tempura roll I ordered wasn't as good as I've had before at other places including whole foods. The service was fine. The chef was just going through the motions and didn't seem like he was very personable. The experience was just meh. We had gone to BeniHanna another time and the chefs were so much more fun there. That's why I thought Ooka would be more engaging with the customers. I should have brought a cake because apparently Ooka doesn't have desserts. They brought out a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the birthday boy and we made do. My sister-in-law raves about this restaurant. I don't get it. I won't go back.
Ooka is one of my favorite restaurants and this experience was no different. Two of my friends had never been there and they were very impressed. Our server was very attentive without being invasive. The food was awesome and the atmosphere is great. I don't get to this location too often, but I'm always happy when I do.
Having dined at Ooka numerous times, their high standard of service and food quality never changes. The food is authentic, verified by my Japanese wife, and the serving sizes are plentiful but not too big to prevent enjoying the next course. Our 12 year old son chose Ooka for his birthday dinner, and its our favorite for all family celebrations!!
Very busy but we were seated right away. They even called and left a message as we were about 10 minutes late. Seating can be a little tight if the table is at capacity. Entertaining Hibachi chef but at that time of night (8pm) just give me my food. Will definitely be back.
We are loyal repeat patrons and chose to celebrate our anniversary on a Friday evening. We were squeezed between other couples at a small table and it took 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge us, with another 10 minutes to receive water/drinks. Disappointing and not romantic...at all. Our server tried to make up for it and did serve complimentary champagne at end of meal. Will think twice about celebrating there again...shame because food is good!
Celebrating a family birthday and felt this would be fun for our group. We did hibachi, the show alone is worth it, food Was delicious. Service for drinks and desert very slow. Waited almost 15 minutes for cocktails. Noise level high and it's difficult to have a conversation. If you are looking for an intimate meal this isn't the spot. If you want good food, lively show and leftovers don't miss this place.
There is also a separate dining room if you don't want hibachi. Good variety of sushi.
We went on a Saturday night and made reservations. Without reservations you will wait.
The food was delicious. All three of us has lovely platters. We have not one complaint about the unbelievable food. However, we had to seriously beg for our drinks to be filled. I asked four times. We asked for a knife and about ten minutes later it appeared. When your spending 60 dollars on lunch, it should be standard to refill glasses. It was my dad's first time there and I raved to him about it. It was quite embarrassing.
If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant catering to an American palette, this is for you. If you're looking for authentic Japanese, suggest you find it elsewhere. It's poor taste when your server doesn't really know what the menu items are or even say it correctly. Perhaps that is good enough for their clientele, it's just that - good enough, not excellent, not outstanding.
It's a bit pricey, but other than that it was fantastic. The service was good, and the food was outstanding.
Caution to those with kids: my 2 yr old daughter was frightened by the flames from the hibachi grill and did not completely calm down until we left. One of the hostesses gave the impression that that wasn't an uncommon occurrence. Which would have been a nice heads up.
We had four different salads and they were all outstanding. The seaweed salad is the freshest I have ever had at any Japanese Restaurant ever, and the peach salad was definitely to die for, the regular salad that came with the entrée had ginger dressing and that was also amazing, but nowhere near as amazing as the salad with the pears and beets! Wow! I am vegetarian/mostly vegan, so our server, named Eden was extremely helpful, and so was our very welcoming manager, Ken... Our meal was outstanding!
This is the best Habachi restaurant I've been to. The food was great. The service was great and the chef was very entertaining. The only problem I have with this and any Habachi restaurant is that you're seated with strangers if you don't have a large enough party to fill the table.
