An absolutely perfect dining experience at Onyx. To start, my date and I had found a deal on Travelzoo for half off a complete meal. In addition, we both look much younger than we are, so we were expecting the combination of the two to potentially lead to a situation where our table may not be the highest priority. How wrong we were. Our service and waiter were absolutely outstanding the whole way through with recommendations for every course, several visits from upper management seeing how we were doing and thanking us for spending the evening there, and a free dessert when our waiter thought we were having trouble deciding between two. We never felt like we weren't priority number one. And the food and drinks were wonderful as well! There is no doubt in my mind that we will be coming back for the foreseeable future.

Great place for a get together with friends. Good service, interesting food. We have dined at ONYX several times and always enjoyed it.

Gorgeous place, good solid sushi menu with great, fresh fish any day of the week. I’m usually a stickler for fine traditional sushi and not the Westernized rolls slathered with teriyaki and mayo style sauces. But the rolls here are much more of the traditional taste and flavored with much more constraint allowing the fish to shine. There are still plenty of choices with dainty amounts of sauces and avocado, etc...even those are still delicious. Quality of sushi is as good as the best in the states. Elegant Desserts are fun as well still adhering to a more Asian theme yet still providing us with the satisfaction of western desserts. Of course, there are still chocolate cake and ice cream to be had.

We have been coming to Onyx for special occasions since it opened. It has always been a pleasure to dine with family and friends. However, on the last two occasions, our bill was incorrect and we had to call and email the manager to rectify it. We were also not recognized for our birthdays in September and on our last visit, March 29, for our Anniversary. Both occasions were noted on our reservations. We were greeted on arrival with Happy Anniversary but our complimentary dessert or recognition at the end of the meal were absent. This was not the happiness we usually experience. We were disappointed.

We got a good deal from Travelzoo making this date a little more budget friendly.
Food is good but overpriced if you pay regular price.
Servers were extremely nice and polite but service was very slow. We waited at least 40 minutes for our entrees to come after the appetizers.
The restaurant is nice and fancy but the way tables are set don’t make it easy to have a conversation with your date.
Also, you are very close to your neighbors so it’s very distracting to hear other people’s conversations.
All in all it was a nice experience but I wouldn’t recommend paying full price for dinner there.

We had received a Conejo Deal from my folks for Christmas. We’ve been here before. Food was always good and service outstanding. Today was the opposite...service was marginal at best. I’m sure the server was not happy when he saw our certificate. I wanted to say “It was s gift! We aren’t trying to eat here with a coupon!” He could barley speak up or clearly enough for us to understand what the deal got us as it wasn’t listed on the actual certificate. My husband won ordering the NY strip steak which was actually a normal sized portion and tasted pretty good. I ordered the Hawaiian Volcano roll (thank goodness I didn’t pay $24 for this measly size roll) and the lobster/sea bass meal was no better. The lobster looked more like a crawfish and the sea bass, although good, was so small in size, I was wondering if it was off the children’s menu that my daughter ordered from...anyhow with 2 extra glasses of wine, a kids meal and a miso soup cost us an extra $95 after the $82 my parents paid. Hey I get it, it’s the 4 Seasons, but give me something that’s worthy of the price and quality of food! Last time we’ll be visiting Oynx :(

Took my wife recently to Onyx as a surprise anniversary dinner. I had heard mixed reviews, but went in with an open mind to see for myself. In making our reservations I had indicated it was our anniversary and asked for a table with a view or some ambience. We arrived to find the restaurant practically empty with numerous open tables. Our hostess wished us a happy anniversary then proceeded to walk us back to a non-descript table in a corner next to the kitchen entrance void of anything resembling a view or ambience. I politely asked one of the four open tables next to the window overlooking the garden only to be told they were for ‘premium reservations’ only (whatever that is). I could see the disappointment in my wife’s face which was exactly opposite as to the purpose and intent of the evening. We finally were given a decent table after an awkward pause, but our experience with Onyx wasn’t done. I will give credit where deserved and say that the food (sushi) was very good. The waiter was polite and attentive and offered his congratulations on our anniversary which seemed sincere, but then brought out a dessert dish with ‘happy birthday’ written on it. Close, not quite, though. Received the bill and made the determination that Onyx was overpriced and truly not worthy of any another visit. We are surrounded by fabulous restaurants in this area which offer a far superior dining experience at a much better cost. Save your time, money and frustration and go elsewhere for a memorable time.

SO disappointed! We had such great expectations of this restaurant after reading reviews. The service was rushed, and lacked any personal touch, finesse, or interest. Steak was ordered by both men, but server did not ask how either would like it to be" prepared" . Apparently the chef thought" blackened and very well done" was best. The sushi, while fresh, was about average. I requested NO shrimp, and there was a large shrimp topping my bowl of chirashi. This was due to the lack of care on the servers part. There was a glaring "interrogation" light pointed directly at one of the seats making it quite uncomfortable. Asked if the light could be dimmed a bit.... they said it was not possible. They should have a manager sit in a few seats around the restaurant and see how they feel.... After all this is a Four Seasons. Truthfully, it felt like a Holiday Inn. Our friends said the ONLY thing this restaurant had going for it was "presentation" The food LOOKED good. (It really did~) I've never writtten a review before about a dining experience but wow, what an unpleasant event. Granted this is a first world problem,,,but when you spend that much money you would like to feel like it was a great investment of time and resources. Oh, and WAIT! The FINALE!! The signature desert! Chocolate...something....The size of a miniature candy bar, and BOTH men in unison said "WOAH! Tastes like dish soap!!" The manager kindly brought us a plate of all their deserts to compensate, as I did let them know everything we ordered was quite sub standard. Manager gets an A for effort. So thank you....but for those considering this restaurant...You've been duly warned!

We had recently been to Lure Fish House and spotted Onyx at the Four Seasons on our way home. We decided to book a date night at 7:15 pm for dinner for two. As a party of two, we often get offered a tiny table near the door or kitchen. Therefore, I had put in the reservation note to sit us in a booth or somewhere we can sit next to each other away from the door. Low and behold, when we arrived, the hostess attempts to sit us at a tiny table near the exit door. Eventually, we agreed to sit at the sushi bar which worked out perfectly for us. We were able to sit next to each other and order directly for the chef. We ordered Toro, Salmon Belly, Yellowtail Belly, and overall, the sushi and sashimi was good quality. We ordered the Rib Eye as well, didn't expect it to be a thin cut but was very tasty. We finished off the meal with the chocolate desert which was delicious.

My girlfriends were in from Chicago and we had a dinner there to celebrate our reunion and a birthday. I asked for a nice table in advance and mentioned that it was a special occasion.
As requested we got a lovely table and fantastic service. The food, as always was amazing. They also helped us celebrate our friends birthday.
I wish I had asked the name of our Maitre d. She took incredible care of us. She checked on us several times to make sure my guests were happy. She always takes great care of me and my guests.
Thank you,

The deal is not as good as it had been. They no longer offer bar drinks included in the Travelzoo Voucher. The service was not up to the level of previous visits. They forgot to deliver a side order. By that time, we no longer wanted it, but they gave it to us comped. Turns out I didn't like it that much.

I took my two teenage sons here for a birthday celebration. Cory gave us excellent service which was very appreciated. At one point a manager showed up to make sure that everything was going well. This is a huge improvement from the last time we dined at the Four Seasons. Last time felt more like a coffee shop then fine dining but they obviously have stepped up their game!

Food was very fresh and tasted great. Pricing was higher than expected. Sushi is pretty costly in general so I did expect a hefty tab. We got two appetizers, three specialty sushi rolls, one California hand roll, one tuna hand roll, one egg handroll and a side of garlic noodles. Total was about $200 Plus tip. They were kind enough to bring a special dessert for my son’s birthday. We did not have any drinks, alcohol or other desserts.

Although pricier than anticipated it was a really fun evening and I’m glad we chose Onyx for our celebration.

We have been to Onyx many times. On this occasion we had invited our friends over to have a nice dinner. Service was unusually poor. They forgot to bring our appetizers, main dishes were all mixed up. Kids had to wait much longer than they had to despite us asking their food first. Very disorganized last night l. I hope it is a one off as we love the place and the food otherwise.

This was our second time to Onyx and the second visit was just as perfect. Amber and Emma greeted us when we arrived and welcomed us back along with our guests (my family) - a very nice surprise to be remembered.

Once seated, Jesus welcomed us back and took our drink order, checking in with us on how the drinks and appetizers were once they arrived. Throughout the meal his service was friendly and personable which made for an enjoyable environment, even using our names.

The food was exquisite - especially the Volcano Roll, Black Cod and delicious sides - the presentation was beautiful. They even warned us of mushrooms in the noodle dish as they set it down, knowing my husband wasn't a mushroom eater. They remembered that fact from our previous visit! We will definitely return to Onyx for another incredible meal. Thank you to all the staff who made our dinner so wonderful and memorable.
