Onyx - Four Seasons Westlake Village Ratings and Reviews
We ordered the popcorn shrimp (good), the hamachi carpaccio (not so good, I actually left some on the plate and hamachi is my fave), miso soup (yummy), and the miso butterfish (good but I have had better). I also ordered Maguro sushi, California roll, and white dragon roll to go for my Mom, and she said it was good but nothing stellar. The dinner cost $200 with no alcohol. The service was great. The ambiance is pretty nice. We sat outside. The a/c was a little strong for us inside. The people who worked there were lovely, but the quality of fish was not that great, especially for the hamachi. I am not in a hurry to return and still on a search for sushi as good as what I ate in Maui.
The outstanding service and friendly staff are what stood out most to me at Onyx. Also, we loved the seating outside with a lovely view of the waterfall. The food was excellent and timely served. I did not find the inside to be as warm and romantic but great for a family gathering or large group. So in summary, if it's a romantic night out then ask for a table outdoors. I would be a regular here if I lived closer. Most romantic setting I have seen so far in the area.
Pretty good overall, a couple disappointing moments however. Despite asking for a table without a draft, our hostess did just that. When i asked our server if we could be reseated, she pointed to the hostess and said we could ask her, then walked away. Waiter was attentive, though the busboys collar was crooked all night, and he had to be asked to clean out plates. Finally the tempura was undercooked and oily which had to be sent back. The rolls and sake was nice, and the decorations were beautiful. Maybe not wooden chopsticks next time, HOWEVER.
The food as always was delicious. AIMEE was our server and she was excellent. She recommended some dishes and she was spot on. The manager Emma is phenomenal ensuring that all guests are happy without being intrusive. Highly recommend to anyone that enjoys Japanese food and likes great ambience.
Amanda was our server and was absolute perfection!
We asked for recommendations on a Sushi roll. She suggested red dragon and it was s home run!
We asked her opinion about dessert too. We wanted something light . She suggested the coconut bar. It was yummy delicious! We can't wait to go back to Onyx!
Given all the great reviews, we expected better. I think this is a case of trying too hard to be a premier restaurant, unfortunately it falls short in many ways. They have a ways to go both in service and the quality of the food before they can claim premier status.
Food was good as always. The noise level in the restaurant, however, was a problem. There was only one loud table in the restaurant, but it was still hard to have a conversation with our friends. We would have gone outside, but there were no more tables. Next time I'll call ahead and ask for one.
Great sushi selection beautiful patio with view of waterfall. Our waiter Jose and Ricardo were so friendly and knowledgeable with the menu selections. I have tomotos & carrot allergy which they paid close attention to my allergy issue. We look forward to visiting again . Thanks for the wonderful conversation about the area and the Four Seasons hotels .
The sushi and sashimi are top notch. The fish tastes very fresh. The rolls are very creative and the blend of ingredients explode in your mouth. For the drinkers the cold Saki was excellent and the green tea cocktail was phenomenal.
The service was good, however, the manager named Emma is a gem and patrols the floor and ensures that every table is having a great experience.
We highly recommend this and remember, you do not have to be a hotel guest to go and enjoy the food and ambiance.
The fish tank built into the wall is worth seeing.
Enjoyed a rare date night with my wife here. The sashimi appetizer was fresh and well presented. My wife enjoyed their signature cod and I had the DIY beef on a hot stone. A meal here always seems healthy and moderate and we left feeling satisfied without being overfull, although we did joke about visiting the In 'N Out drive-through afterward.
We ate outside on a perfect 75-degree evening with a view of the rock falls. Nice experience. Will do it again.
We came late because of a graduation but still made a reservation . The sushi is always great at Onyx. The service this time was not what I would expect from the four seasons. I wish we didn't have to feel rush by the waiter because the kitchen was closing at 10 pm.
We had to order everything fast and the food arrived all at once.
Otherwise we had a good time.
