Onegin is where you'll go when your usual palace just isn't opulent, caviar-y or crazy enough. You'll find smoked sturgeon by crystal-chandelier light. House-infused honey-pepper vodka from a bar made of 200-year-old Ukrainian birch. And borscht. Delivered to your red velvet throne by butler-jacket-wearing waiters.
Whether you head to the aforementioned bar, or past 19th-century carriage seats and into the brocade dining room, all roads lead to vodka. Available in a carafe, a cocktail or the spiked fisherman's soup (next-level comfort food).
The rest of the menu comes courtesy of the city's only operational Russian pechka, a wood-burning furnace that would have once been used to heat a czar's castle. Now, it'll heat your quail on a stick.
And while you wait between courses of pike caviar and pork belly pâté, you'll read Pushkin, his sketches and passages from secret journals have been etched around the restaurant in goose feather quill.

Onegin Ratings and Reviews
The place was empty, so it is hard to comment on sound levels. And also service, which was attentive but there wasn't much to deal with otherwise. We stuck to Russian dishes (the bulk are completely non-Russian, despite the name) and they were good, well-prepared and tasty. The one negative is the wine list, staggeringly pricey, even for the lowest grade. The mark up must be 500% ! Worth a visit but stick to the tea.
Honestly the best meal I've had in a long time. Great theme, great service, fabulous meal with great dessert. Started us off with a surprise shot for the table, ended with delicious dessert and coffee. The appetizers were great, the bread was fresh, portions were just the right size and well flavored, not standard or under seasoned. Everything was cooked just right. Would definitely recommend.
We had a fun dinner at Onegin. We only order appetizers to share: Dumplings, salmon roe with blinis, potato pancakes with shredded duck and herring. All very good. The birch martini cocktail was very interesting. Worth a return visit. Casual atmosphere, so fun for a night out with friends.
I was surprising some family and unfortunately we were not notified that there was a private party during our reserved time. We were seated in the bar/lounge which took away the enjoyment Onegin’s dinning room is known for. Great service and nice people. Will try again
Pretty heavy Russian menu - potato, rich sauce - so just be aware. Interesting ambiance. An attempt at a old world feel. Located in a great neighborhood. Easy access to the Village, LES. the infused vodka shots are worth a try. Would recommend getting a Groupon, to check it out with first.
Food was incredible, just like my mom and grandma cook. Unfortunately they didn't have the entire menu available that night so I wasn't able to try my favorite dishes. The prices are on the expensive side but the food and portions accommodated it well. We had the Groupon deal which made this a good bargain.
Our waiter was amazing! If it weren't for him I would probably have rated this bad instead of fair. Actually the service in general was very good! It looks like it is going through a transition of ownership or management maybe? The waiters and hostess were dressed smartly, but the other woman (bartender maybe) was completely inappropriately dressed. The arrangement of the seating was bizarre as well. When we first walked in I thought we were underdressed, but then we sat down and could hear the obnoxious couple at the bar throughout our whole dinner. For a Russian restaurant, there were very few Russian offerings on the menu. The Borscht was good, but salty. The salad came out with very old and salty feta, a bizarre cilantro-esque dressing, and no olives. I ordered the lamb kebabs . . . they were sausages wrapped in a philo/tortilla type thing. The best part of the main course was the french fries. The spicy plum sauce was also good and at least made the 'kebabs' less dry. The napoleon supposedly homemade was old. All the light cream had saturated the pastry, making the entire dessert stale and clunky instead of light and airy. I soooooo wanted to like this place. I'm hoping that it is just in a transition because it could really be great.
AMAZING!! IF YOU LOVE DANCING AFTER EATING A GREAT MEAL - THIS IS A PLACE FOR YOU. THE ONLY ONE THING I DID NOT LIKE WAS THE NOISE LEVEL. I CAME OUT TOTALLY DEAFENED, SO TURN THE VOLUME DOWN, GUYS. OTHER THAN THAT - A PERFECT PLACE TO SPEND FRIDAY NIGHT WITH A DATE OR FRIENDS.
Quality Russian food and nice ambiance;
We got Groupon which was an excellent deal.
Service was attentive and prompt. I got Russian staples borscht and chicken Kiev which were both excellent. They also have a variety of infused vodkas.
During the week it's usually quiet and one can easily talk, on the weekends it turns into nightclub with DJ
The groupon menu is terrific, good food at an excellent price. We keep coming back for the (salmon) caviar and crepe starter. Fantastic! I tried the vegetarian entree for the first time. It was really good. And the glass of red wine included was excellent too
Our waiter showed a lack of knowledge about the menu. He did not seem interested in helping us and misspoke about several of the food selections and drink items. His English was passable, so it wasn't a language barrier, just a lack of knowledge. Not very professional. Food was hit-and-miss for us, but maybe, could have been great with a better waiter.
Had coupon for two free five-course meals with three vodka pairings. Portions were large, good selection to choose from, and waitress/ who was also bartender, was friendly but did not offer too much information on the Russian cuisine we were having. She was good to prepare what we didn't eat in carry-out containers, so we left a really good tip. My biggest complaint is that the infused vodka, while very tasty, was not served ice cold. It was poured well in advance of being served and was tepid, at best, and mostly room temperature by the time we got it.
We would go again.
In the mail, we received an invite for a complimentary 5-course meal for 2. We couldn't believe it and our expectations were not high. Well, we were in for such a big surprise and treat. Every course was delicious and they included a vodka infused intermezzo between three of the meals. Great wine list, too. Highly recommended even if you have to pay. The prices are reasonable.
Interesting menu and plentiful portions. Food is pretty good but was really disappointed when my glass of wine had a lot sediment on the bottom, which didn't seem noteworthy to the waiter. The music gets loud a little later in the evening so be mindful if you're hoping for quiet conversation.
