One if by Land, Two if by Sea
Let me start by saying that the atmosphere was incredible. After that, not much to call home about. The drinks are over priced but the two that I had were tasty. My wife and I decided to try the Chef’s tasting menu. The tuna and mustard tartar was odd...mustard over powered everything. The duck confit tasted like homemade chicken noodle soup, the goose liver was actually really good, the scallops with quail egg and pork belly tasted more like a ham and eggs breakfast at a diner with a fishy after taste. The halibut was cooked to perfection. One of the best pan seared fish sampling’s I have ever had. I do not like pesto but this pesto sauce was great. I wish I had ordered it as my main meal. The cheese sampling was odd and I could have done without it. The “main dish” was lamb (bland) and beef Wellington which was the second best thing we had after the halibut.
The sweet finish was a chocolate soufflé that tasted like my 6 year old daughter made a batch of brownies. After tip we dropped $509!
Money would have been better spent on a Broadway show to be honest.
Loved the atmosphere and the service but was not impressed with the sea bass nor the duck dishes we ordered.
Very romantic atmosphere for this restaurant, perfect for a fancy date. Nice setting, flowers and candles, smooth lights and soft piano music. The food is excellent and even if it’s arguably rather expensive, it’s worth it. Excellent service. Oh and try the Apple Soufflé as a dessert, simply the best.
We came in around 6:30. The environment is nice but the room is too dark even with one candle on. I feel Like at lease they should turn on some small lights to make customers feel better. Beef Wellington is good. Well We gave up on the deserts, which is too heavy and below average.
No worth paying. Food was hideous. Too expensive for the quality of both food and service.
The steak and. Beef Wellington were outstanding
Foie grad and Beef Wellington was Awesome! Great service too!
This restaurant was historic and charming . White roses, candle light on each table and a grand piano and player meet you when you arrive ! The service was impeccable and the 3 or 5 price fixed menus amazing and delicious! Some tables look out onto a court yard with gardens . Aaron Burr's old carriage house is now an amazing restaurant!
One if By Land...is an outstanding restaurant for a special occasion, in this case, my aunt’s 97th Birthday! The food, service and ambiance were all wonderful! The restaurant prepared a plate with Happy 97th Birthday for her!
Very good but very limited and very expensive menu
Lovely romantic evening. Beautiful setting, lovely service. Fabulous desserts!! Even the flowers on the table were magnificent. Special venue for a very special anniversary. Everyone should add it to their list...
Great ambience. That’s what makes a restaurant for me. Food was good and desert was great. I got the appetizer, duck liver, which was great. The entree was duck breast, which was slightly raw, and was eh. My wife got the Black Sea bass, which was okay for me, but great for me. Dessert were great as well. We went around the evening time, right before it got busy so it was perfect. There appears to be upstairs seating which was not told to us.
Go to place in NYC for a romantic dinner
Amazing food and service. Great place to go for special occasions.
Visiting New York
this is absolutely Perfect for a romantic dinner. e
The severs were very friendly and the food was superb thank you for making it a special night for us
Great ambiance & professional but quite service.
Great service, beautiful setting, the bar was awesome. That being said the food (for the price) was good not great. Not sure if we would go back.
Absolutely positively phenomenal! Anniversary celebration couldn't have been any better. Very special service. Fantastic food in a romantic setting. We loved it and will be back again soon. Thank you for the outstanding experience!
Amazing. Beautiful room, great food, wonderful service.
We have already recomenddd it. We were there for 4.5 hours on our romantic honeymoon dinner. The waiter was so friendly and wonderful. The pianist played 4 songs that we had in our wedding (only one was by request). The food was so delicious we ate as slow as possible to soak it in. The wine pairings were exceptional. Yes the dinner cost a lot. But I was also fine with paying it and leaving the largest tip I’ve ever left.
Delicious dinner, honestly value was not met . We were seated right in the middle of the floor which really took away from the intimacy of the dinner. Every other table was seated around the perimeter so that was very awkward. I knew going in it would be expensive, but I wanted the experience. Unfortunately, I was let down. My husband's birthday was acknowledged, so that was very nice.
Beautiful restaurant, although somewhat dark, with very fine food and service.
Thought wine list too highly priced.
Beautiful restaurant and food was wonderful. Great night out with hubby!
We had a dinner birthday for friends planned, but they got sick. We went anyway and they allowed us to cancel the other two spots even though they have a $50 per person cancellation fee within 24 hours.
When we sat at our first table an older gentleman was ruining the very young woman with very expensive wine and talking a bit loudly and I went to look for a quieter part of the restaurant and the hostess very graciously said I can move you over here. From that point on everything was perfect girl
Beautiful restaurant hidden away in a side street. The service was first class, and the food was amazing. Expensive but worth it for a special occasion
I booked this for my wife and I for our anniversary!! She was thrilled with the atmosphere and the service. The food from beginning to end was excellent!!! I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a can’t miss spot for a special occasion.
My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful date. The food was delicious. He loved the beef Wellington.
The food was ABSOLUTELY Devine & service outstanding...
I must return ASAP!!!
Almost couldnt find the place. Very open and casual upon entering the restaurant which is an immediate bar area. But you can see as you enter deeper to the dining areas, that it really steps up as an upscale restaurant. Very early american decor.
We did an 8 course meal with wine pairing. Everything was very good. Not once did we say, hmmm, that dish wasnt for me. A couple of the dishes made us ask the waitress to give us the names so we could order during another visit. Each time the wines were a little sweet at times, and I have to say, we partied since the afternoon in the city. So by the time we were eating, with each new wine, I was getting further and further gone. One regret was I couldnt eat the dessert I was so full, and I was practically falling asleep in my chair from the days revelries and all that wine. In the end we were very happy with the recommendation of this restaurant and hope to return(a few more times).
Never in a long time have I left a dining experience so utterly underwhelmed, disappointed & feeling robbed. For somewhere that charges $109 for 3 courses, this establishment really needs to up its game in terms of overall quality & service.
For a supposedly high end restaurant in a prime West Village spot to be more than half empty on a Friday night, alarm bells were ringing when we were sat in the characterless upstairs area. We should’ve taken notice of this.
Anyways, we were attended to by a very polite waitress who did an adequate job. Nothing outstanding and we certainly didn’t feel welcomed by the disinterested hostess sat at the door or the unhappy looking barman who was serving a basic gin and tonic (small pour) for $16. This whole place might look really pretty when one walks in, but it seriously lacks character or charm once your dining experience begins.
The food was underwhelming at best. Starters were fair; the foie gras was cooked well but the tuna tartare tasted like it was from a supermarket chill cabinet & was served with scrappy pieces of thin toasted bread.
The mains were adequate. My husband’s Beef Wellington was spoiled by the worst attempt at puff pastry. It was soggy and very thin. My duck was well cooked but certainly not medium rare as the waitress said it would come. The overpriced side of Brussels Sprouts came drowned in an odd mix of cheap honey & what tasted like sweet chili sauce from a local Chinese store. They also came late, halfway through our mains & after we asked for their whereabouts.
Desserts were incredibly sub-par. A dry, plain tiramisu was barely edible & the deflated chocolate soufflé was clearly pre-prepped as it came out way too quick. One point was given for the waitress bringing out a birthday candle but the effort was ruined by the two tiny old cookies & insipid macaroons.
We left incredibly disappointed - with not a single Thankyou or goodbye by the disinterested hostess - upon leaving.
Avoid at all costs.
Not worth the money. It was okay. When we entered the Restaurant the hostess was on the phone. She stepped outside to take a call. The bare tender desired he should get us a table since the host was taking so long. The food just wasn’t worth $300 +dollars with tip. Fleming’s or Ruth’s Chris is easily cheaper & better.
Beautiful restaurant that you would probably walk past and not know it was there. Everything about it was just perfect and although pricey it is certainly worth it for quietly celebrating a special occasion.
Been at this restaurant before, never disappoints. Our server Nadia was excellent.
The food was Ok. I have had better for the price I paid . The wine list was amazing ! We had a moderately priced bottle and it was excellent. My only complaint is that I thought the wait staff just did not seem “ crusty “ enough. I had been at other fancy restaurants that week and the wait staff was much older and seemed more involved . This staff reminded me of when I was in college and worked at a local restaurant as a waiter. The restaurant was very quiet and is very romantic. It could be the perfect place to pop the question.
Overpriced, no wonder the place was half empty on a Friday night.
Very good ambiance, food and service, poor deserts.
Subtle piano player, table overlooking the garden, attentive service with just the right touch, delicious food with inventive menu and nice wine list.
Marcos was amazing and the hostess was so friendly! Food was other worldly!
Great ambience, very nice staff. Food was great, although maybe it did not exceed our high expectations.
