One if by Land, Two if by Sea
My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful date. The food was delicious. He loved the beef Wellington.
The food was ABSOLUTELY Devine & service outstanding...
I must return ASAP!!!
Almost couldnt find the place. Very open and casual upon entering the restaurant which is an immediate bar area. But you can see as you enter deeper to the dining areas, that it really steps up as an upscale restaurant. Very early american decor.
We did an 8 course meal with wine pairing. Everything was very good. Not once did we say, hmmm, that dish wasnt for me. A couple of the dishes made us ask the waitress to give us the names so we could order during another visit. Each time the wines were a little sweet at times, and I have to say, we partied since the afternoon in the city. So by the time we were eating, with each new wine, I was getting further and further gone. One regret was I couldnt eat the dessert I was so full, and I was practically falling asleep in my chair from the days revelries and all that wine. In the end we were very happy with the recommendation of this restaurant and hope to return(a few more times).
Never in a long time have I left a dining experience so utterly underwhelmed, disappointed & feeling robbed. For somewhere that charges $109 for 3 courses, this establishment really needs to up its game in terms of overall quality & service.
For a supposedly high end restaurant in a prime West Village spot to be more than half empty on a Friday night, alarm bells were ringing when we were sat in the characterless upstairs area. We should’ve taken notice of this.
Anyways, we were attended to by a very polite waitress who did an adequate job. Nothing outstanding and we certainly didn’t feel welcomed by the disinterested hostess sat at the door or the unhappy looking barman who was serving a basic gin and tonic (small pour) for $16. This whole place might look really pretty when one walks in, but it seriously lacks character or charm once your dining experience begins.
The food was underwhelming at best. Starters were fair; the foie gras was cooked well but the tuna tartare tasted like it was from a supermarket chill cabinet & was served with scrappy pieces of thin toasted bread.
The mains were adequate. My husband’s Beef Wellington was spoiled by the worst attempt at puff pastry. It was soggy and very thin. My duck was well cooked but certainly not medium rare as the waitress said it would come. The overpriced side of Brussels Sprouts came drowned in an odd mix of cheap honey & what tasted like sweet chili sauce from a local Chinese store. They also came late, halfway through our mains & after we asked for their whereabouts.
Desserts were incredibly sub-par. A dry, plain tiramisu was barely edible & the deflated chocolate soufflé was clearly pre-prepped as it came out way too quick. One point was given for the waitress bringing out a birthday candle but the effort was ruined by the two tiny old cookies & insipid macaroons.
We left incredibly disappointed - with not a single Thankyou or goodbye by the disinterested hostess - upon leaving.
Avoid at all costs.
Not worth the money. It was okay. When we entered the Restaurant the hostess was on the phone. She stepped outside to take a call. The bare tender desired he should get us a table since the host was taking so long. The food just wasn’t worth $300 +dollars with tip. Fleming’s or Ruth’s Chris is easily cheaper & better.
Beautiful restaurant that you would probably walk past and not know it was there. Everything about it was just perfect and although pricey it is certainly worth it for quietly celebrating a special occasion.
Been at this restaurant before, never disappoints. Our server Nadia was excellent.
Overpriced, no wonder the place was half empty on a Friday night.
Very good ambiance, food and service, poor deserts.
Subtle piano player, table overlooking the garden, attentive service with just the right touch, delicious food with inventive menu and nice wine list.
Marcos was amazing and the hostess was so friendly! Food was other worldly!
Great ambience, very nice staff. Food was great, although maybe it did not exceed our high expectations.
It was a fabulous night
One If By Land was wonderful! The ambience is lovely, with gentle live piano music playing softly in the background. The service was excellent, with attentive servers. The food was the real star, though. Sumptuous and delicious, each of the three courses were immaculately plated and tasted even better. I started with the Wagyu beef appetizer, which was perfectly prepared, followed by their famous beef Wellington. It's their signature dish for a reason. Finally, I ended with the caramel dessert paired with their 30 year tawny port. Divine!
It's a bit pricey, but ultimately worth it. I definitely recommend this place!
They made everything to make my night special!!! It was worth every minute and every dime!
Ambience is so romantic and the fact that there is no sign on the street, makes its historic importance even more impactful!
The food is great.
I believe the it would be more appropriate and more mindful of costs if they also offered an Ala Carter option.
We spent a special evening here for our anniversary! The ambience was so nice, service was amazing, and food was delicious. The beef Wellington was fantastic. We loved it!
Restaurant is Spectacular. Very romantic. The price fix menu is perfect. Highly recommend for an anniversary, birthday or special date.
Nicest and most romantic restaurant I have ever been to. Service was impeccable too. We will be back!
They require you to check your coat. When we arrived for a 7:30pm reservation on a Friday night the restaurant was about half empty, yet they tried seating us upstairs in the back corner which does not have any view of the main dining room or the nice charm of the restaurant. We asked to be reseated downstairs and they obliged, but we were put in the back room despite 5 empty tables in the main dining room. However, the new table was better than the original one. The restaurant was pretty and had charm, but was a little too traditional/stuffy for my taste. The menu is very limited and they do not allow substitutions, so as someone who is vegetarian, that made things difficult. The food was very underwhelming and extremely salty. We didn’t end up eating about half of the food. In sum, it was a pretty restaurant but did not come close to meeting our expectations and we will not be returning.
Everything was beautiful and tasty. We came for our anniversary and the chef treated up with tiny cookies on a plate saying "happy anniversary" which was a really sweet touch
Great for date night! Very romantic and tasting menu was delicious!
One of the nicest restaurants I’ve ever been to. Highly recommended
Fabulous greeting, host and waitress started fabulous. The highlights here was the bar and cocktails. Amazing!!! Following this, very little attention to detail - we had to call waitress over when our drinks were empty and the table was wobbly (sounds fickle but not when you’re spending as much as you do here). Appetisers (Wagyu beef and pork with spring rolls) were good. Mains were mediocre (beef Wellington was better than the duck). Dessert was fine. Overall good outing but having eaten around the world, not up to standard to how they pitch themselves.
This was my birthday dinner and it was phenomenal. The food is off the charts in taste. And the service is impeccable. I will definitely be returning.
Everything about it was beautiful!
Fantastic experience. Thank you!!
Overly priced fir the food served.
Great restaurant for great occasions. It is a beautiful restaurant.
Wow! All the reason OIBY is famous are exactly
the reasons to go - romantic decor! Beef Wellington! Soufflé! Wines! Candle light,
Flowers, attentive and friendly service plus live piano elevates the meal to a
special occasion even if it isn’t. Lively bar with a more casual vibe. Give it a shot!
The price of my menu options didn’t reflect in quality. Tiny portion. Other options like the Wellington or the tuna tartare were generous. Mine, not so much...
Food was good but the 3 corse fixed price menu of $109 was overpriced. The ambiance was wonderful. The check your coat or wear it policy was unacceptable.
If you are looking for a romantic, high class restaurant. Look no further. This is it. Hands down.
Maria and Stephen are top notch. Excellent service. Great menu. The food was delectable. We will be back on our next trip. Love you both. See you soon.
We had a great dinner at OIBL. From the first greeting at the door through cocktails at the bar through dinner and dessert, everything was perfect. The rack of lamb was particularly perfect! Everyone who works here is perfect! We will be back soon!
Had dinner hear for our engagement at the suggestion of a friend. I could not have picked a more appropriate place to celebrate the occasion.
My wife and I had a great time. Food and service were great. We were seated on the 2nd floor which seemed to only be couples. Romantic atmosphere. Live piano too. We notified our server that we were somewhat in a hurry since we were catching Hamilton afterwards, and she was on top of everything to make sure we got all our food on time. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for date night.
Beautiful setting, great service, good is very good, we had the 7 courses. The bill is hefty at the end but all round a good experience.
We visited here as the climax to a few days away for my partner’s 40th. The food is excellent, the staff welcoming (in a New York way), the ambience is quietly formal, background piano adds to the romance and the lack of signage outside adds to the feeling of visiting somewhere special. And thanks for the birthday treat!
My husband and I went to this restaurant about 16 years ago and visited again this past weekend. It was just as good the second time! The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. It's a small fortune but well worth it for that special night out.
Very romantic restaurant. My wife and I both had the tasting menu. Each course was outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant!
