One if by Land, Two if by Sea
Beautiful experience. Will definitely return
We've been dining at One if by Land for 20 years and found the most recent Chef's Tasting Menu to be among the best we've ever enjoyed in that span. The plates were fresh, intricate, interesting, thoughtfully presented and, perhaps most importantly, tasty. The Beef Wellington is always a reliable favorite here. Add in the candlelit tables with fresh cut flowers, live piano, views of the outside garden and the personal attention from the hostess stand to the bussers, and One if by Land is an intimate, romantic, culinary experience that is doesn't disappoint.
I was there for my 3rd anniversary and they treated us really well (gave us special macaroons).
Warm ambiance and delicious food. I found pasta and beef wellington especially delicious out of the course menu. Can be pricey but definitely worth it for special occasions.
Will definitely go again :)
What a great experience! The food was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was delightful.
Both my wife and myself walked away saying that this was a top 3 meal we have ever had in our lives. The beef wellington was the highlight of the night with the apple souffle coming in a close second. The meal was by far better than many other big name restaurants we have eaten at and had good portion sizes for they type of food that was served. Being a person that eats 24 oz steaks with sides and dessert without blinking an eye, I was surprised by how satisfied I was with the amount of food. We will be going back as soon as we can.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
We went here for our wedding anniversary and it was exactly as special as I expected it to be. The food and service were outstanding.
An unforgettable experience with my fiancé. We will always remember that night! Menu is on point, highly recommended.
Awesome! Quiet! Delicious! Historical!
The food was amazing and the atmosphere was welcoming. The waiters and servers were courteous and accommodating to what we needed. They always made sure we were satisfied with what we had and enjoyed our food. I highly recommend this place. I will be visiting this place again.
Great meal from start to finish!
Elegance coupled with unique classic interior virtually 'hiding' in the Borrow Street.
Came here to celebrate an Anniversary. Not only was the restaurant beautiful and romantic, but the food was terrific. We had the foie gras and bluefin tuna tartar to start and the lamb chops and duck as an entree. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! The icing on the cake was when they brought out a surprise plate that had "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate with some macaroons and chocolate chip cookies around it for dessert. I will certainly be returning here in the future!
We had the Chef’s tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was excellent. Each of the courses were expertly cooked and prepared. The service wasn’t too rushed either, which was appreciated as it was a lot of food! The staff and the bar were excellent too.
We have been celebrating special occasions here since 2008 and it never disappoints. On Saturday we celebrated my wife and our dear friend's birthdays. The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding as always and our friend was blown away since it was her first time here.
Beautiful setting, gorgeous food and service that made us feel special on a special occasion.
Perfect food and service......history....exceptional ambiance...would highly recommend as a must to any visitor to NYC
Unfortunately we did not know there was only two options: a fixed 3 or 8 dish menu. The maître was really uninterested in rearranging a place for us at the bar where allegedly they serve a la carte, so we did walk ourselves downstairs and were greeted by a lovely lady who was very polite. But after 15 minutes no service was provide to us. Eventually we gave up, ordered our check and left the restaurant without any dinner.
Recommended by dil and it lived up to it. Great food and ambiance. Foie gras amazing flavor combo. Halibut perfect and rack of lamb actually finger licking eat to the bone. Coconut dessert out of this world! Definitely recommend and would go back
A very nice restaurant to spend that special night in a, what seems to be a hole-in-the wall until you walk in to an elegant fine dining establishment with meals that a sculpted to perfection. A wonderful experience all around!
We went for our 20th Wedding Anniversary and couldn't have been happier. The service was excellent and extremely attentive. I didn't feel rushed at any point the pace was relaxed and easy. The staff was knowledgeable and offered opinions when asked. The ambiance was lovely as well. Well worth the money spent.
Great romantic spots. Went above and beyond by highlighting our anniversary. Quite expensive but paying for ambiance and food.
We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary and truly enjoyed this experience- chef driven 3 course menu, great wine selection and delicious desserts. There were multiple choices and we were both pleased with our meals. The staff went over and above to accommodate us!!!
The restaurant is fantastic. Once we arrived the maitre’d told us to take our time have a drink relax the table was ready but no one was in a hurry, very accommodating. The wait staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. We ordered their signature dish, the Beef Wellington, excellent! The desserts and appetizers were equally well prepared. What a great evening for romantics. Beautiful garden and setting. Can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny. It was our anniversary and it was a terrific evening.
Rated as the 5th most romantic restaurant in the world and it’s easy to see why. A beautiful evening great food and the atmosphere and ambience is out of this world
Beautiful restaurant with lots of character. Service was very good. My only issue was the value for money. Very expensive for what you get. Although the beef wellington was very tasty it's not worth the pre fix price.
There was a terrible smell in the restaurant, like a bathroom was wrong. Nice place but bad smell...
Food was great. The oysters were some of the best I had and the tomato gnocchi was delicious. The lamb was very good although I may try the sea bass next time. Overall a
Lovely and romantic atmosphere, fantastic waitstaff, and great food!
Maria was on vacation, but service was awesome as usual. Thank you
Nobody in our group drinks alcohol, so we asked them to come up with some mock tails to match the chef’s tasting menu. They took the challenge to heart and enhanced our meal. Great place
Admittedly, I was nervous coming here after reading the detailed reviews in how people waited long.
In short, ambience was romantic. Three course 109 dollars. I ordered the steak medium and it was great. Wait staff was very good. The only complaint was that they lacked a little attentiveness and seemed slow then again it was a very busy night and packed house.
Would I come back? Sure, I’ll keep in my back pocket of spots to visit.
wonderful evening. but pricey. excellent staff ambiance and food. Just about 20% more than I expected
Food superb, excellent decor with fresh flowers, live piano music lovely, service was impeccable & attentive! Was entertaining antique dealers who were very impressed! Have been there ever since Richard & Armond opened in 70s did not disappoint! Thankyou God bless!
Meals were really great. Kind of expensive dinner but it was definetely worth it.
Worst food I’ve EVER had. And at over $100 a person, that’s absolutely ridiculous. Lazy and disinterested hostess on her phone. We were seated upstairs in a dark corner despite plenty of room in the downstairs dining room. Such awkward service. Ordered the root vegetable bisque with fried parsley, asked if it had carrots or potatoes, waitress said both but none were in the soup when it arrived. Instead I got a disgusting smoky tasting clear cold broth with tomatoes and feta cheese floating in it. What the hell??? Rack of lamb wasn’t a rack but a loin. I could go on but don’t feel like wasting any more of my time thinking about this place. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. You’d get a better meal at Five Guys across the street, at least it’d be cooked fresh and by someone who cares.
I went here with my fiancee after our engagement as a celebratory dinner. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was top-notch, and the food was delicious. They even worked with me to arrange a few special requests for our special night. My only (slight) negative was how close all of the tables are, since it's not a large restaurant. Would have loved to have a little more space so it felt a little more private, but fortunately the other tables around us finished while we were still on our entree, so it didn't end up being too bad.
It wasn't as good / special as it could so easily have been.
The food was very good and the service was good.
The atmosphere was adversely impacted by a couple if issues. First, I personally don't want to go to an expensive romantic dinner and sit with people in shorts. The restaurant should enforce its dress code. Second, we were there on a hot summer evening, and the air conditioning did not handle the conditions - it was warm in the restaurant. This directly, negatively impacts your enjoyment of the occasion. If we go back, it won't be in the summer!
One last comment, which is minor, but one that I think accurately reflects the way the restaurant is being run - that is more resting on its past acclaim that striving to maintain / improve it. The hand towels in the men's room were the cheapest, thinnest ones I have ever seen. Way below a restaurant of this cost / quality.
The food was good but we found the waiter was awful
