One if by Land, Two if by Sea Ratings and Reviews
I have not been to this restaurant for a number of years. It has changed, in my opinion, for the worse. Service was slow, and prix fix is the only choice. If it was in the league of Chanterelle or Le Cirque it would be worth the price. It will be a long time before I go back.
OIBL TIBS is a consistently excellent restaurant. From the warm welcome at the door to the last " good night," everything is wonderful. The oysters are great, the veal chop as well. But everything is excellent. Of course, the room is one of the most beautiful anywhere.
As always, visits become significant memories. Thank you Maria. Your restaurant is so beautiful with devoted care of the fine historic venue, arranging dramatic, candle-lit, pristine tables with arrangements of fresh roses. Loved watching the effects of the sunset and dusk on the scenic, well attended, lush, summer, classic garden from the large Palladian colonial paned windows. Evening lighting added to the cozy refined ambiance. You have also hired well; Evan is a craftsman at the bar - the best Manhattans; and our server Gigi could not have been more attentive. Signature individual beef Wellingtons were delicious as was the decadent chocolate soufflé. Can't wait to visit again. Truly a gem!
We went here for a friends birthday. Having never been to this restaurant we were not sure what to do expect. First you can park directly across the street. It will run you 60 bucks to park. Second just go directly across the street to the restaurant as there is no sign on it it tell you you are in the right place. We were well greeted, shown to a lovely table adjacent to the garden. Service was nice. Dinner which is a three course prix fix was amazing.
My husband and I went to One By Land, Two By Sea for our recent marriage in NYC. They were very helpful in getting in contact to ask about my special requests. When we arrived, we were greeted with such warm emotions that invited us into this very ambient closed off restaurant that served the most amazing food. The menu was a prix fixe menu that still gave you lots of variation that my husband and I both enjoyed. The prices are well worth the atmosphere and food quality you receive while at this special location. We highly recommend this spot for any occasion, especially weddings.
Absolutely amazing restaurant. The staff was very kind and welcoming and they put us in a great spot of the restaurant given I had indicated this was a special occasion. My only issue was that the initial order (asking for drink/wine) took longer than I would have liked.
One if By Land remains a quiet romantic venue just about the way it was 20 or so years ago the last time I was there. It is worth the trip and is great place for conversation with old friends or a romantic dinner. The menu happens to appeal to me, since it includes beef Wellington, caramelized scallops, foie gras, duck and rack of lamb. Kind of upscale Americana. Service is attentive and discreet and has to be rated as superb. Unlike 20 years ago, one can now actually find Barrow St ( one of the shortest and most obscure streets in NYC) with the aid of a GPS, which improves your chances of directing a cab or uber driver to a reasonably close drop off, although it is a one way street and you almost certainly will have to walk a bit. There is public parking right across the street from the restaurant on Barrow if you want to brave NYC driving. If a cabbie can find Bleecker and 7th avenue you are there. Walking distance from the 4th Street subway station. Well worth the trip. Figure on spending at least $800 for 4 , inclusive of tip, although if you really bring an appetite and go for the tasting menu with wine accompaniment it will be more like $1K for 4.
Lovely atmosphere- great lighting. The food was amazing and the wine delicious. We did the 7course meal and wine pairing- a bit too expensive. I would recommend if on a date - one person do the regular menu with 1-2 glasses of wine and the other order the tasting/pairing menu. Overall expensive and wonderful, but only do once to check it off your list.
My husband, myself, my daughter and her girlfriend had dinner after attending Phantom of the Opera matinee. My husband and I are from California and was visiting New York, your restaurant was suggested to me from a co-worker that used to live in manhattan. We were told how wonderful it was and believe me it stood up the the recommendation 100%!!!!! We LOVED it!....from the lovely woman that greeted us, to the excellent waiter that took wonderful care of us! It was a magical night, our reservations were @ 5:30 and we did not leave there until 8:30pm! The food, drinks, wine and desserts were fabulous which added to the ambiance of the restaurant! We had such a wonderful time with family catching up spending quality time together at a beautiful restaurant! Thank you for making that part of our New York trip so special! We WILL be back! ❤️
We went for our first anniversary and the atmosphere was perfect. The food was delicious; for a starter my husband had the scallops and 2 oysters and I had the burrata, for mains he had the Peking duck and I had the halibut and for dessert he had the Chocolate soufflé...all were prepared to perfection. Then our waitress came over with a platter of sweets that said Happy Anniversary on it. We could not have picked a more romantic spot to celebrate at. The service was excellent Will definitely be back.
This restaurant is a beautiful setting- even in summer as they had the front window open looking out to the street which added a nice ambiance. I think the red meat options on the set menus are delicious, but the seafood or possibly a vegetarian or non dairy option are slim to none. I had the salmon and it was very mediocre for such a high end restaurant. The service was outstanding- our waiter was very sweet and attentive. We moved to the bar to have dessert which was fun as the bar felt like you were eating in someone's turn of the century home.
We have not been to this restaurant in a number of years. Previously we had gone several times for dinner and often for drinks. The ambiance, particularly in the bar, is still very nice and the piano really adds to this. The menu has changed, however, to a $100 three course prix fixe or a more expensive Tasting Menu. The Prix Fixe is far too expensive and removes the diner's choice to skip one or more courses. The food is good, but not commensurate with the pricing. Overall, it is a bad deal and just not worth it. I would return for a drink at the bar, but not for a meal unless the menu changes and the prices adjust to come closer to the earth.
Cons: duck was overcooked, gnocchi was hard and looked very unappetizing, waiter was not not knowledgeable about the food AT ALL, fruit flies were constantly hovering about our table
Pros: ambiance, they gave us an happy anniversary dessert.
Super disappointed with this one. At these prices you would expect the food to be spectacular and it was far from that. Would not return or recommend to anyone.
