One if by Land, Two if by Sea
Everything was perfect, the ambience, service and food. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Am sure if I had been given a better table, the dining experience would have been outstanding. There are a couple of tables when you first enter the dining area that are quite active and distracting. The food and service are great.
This is a delightfully romantic restaurant. The service was excellent and the food delicious. It is frightfully expensive and portions were small. I am glad I went but will not return.
This is a beautiful, very romantic restaurant in a lovely setting of a 1700's carriage house that was once belonged to Aaron Burr. Brick interior walls with tall windows overlooking a secret garden . There is a piano player.
There are fresh roses and candlelight on every table - excellent, attentive service.
Prix Fixe menu of 3 courses for $ 109 was a good value for the quality of the food and the ambiance of the restaurant. I had the fried foie grois and my husband had the duck pappardelle as the appetizers which were excellent. My husband has the Beef Wellington which was the specialty of the house and he thought it was perfectly cooked. I had the sea bass which was good but not great. For dessert I had the pistachio sorbet with a raspberry sauce which was amazing!!
It was a very nice dining experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
The food, service and ambience exceeded our expectations. We told our server that we were going to a MSG performance so that he could pace our meal accordingly. He hit it out of the park!
We will be back - and tell all our friends about our fantastic dining experience!
We went straight from Hamilton the musical to the restaurant, which was great because of Aaron Burr's link to the site. Food was good, they also remembered that it was my wife's birthday and brought out small deserts and a candle. Great overall experience
Service was excellent, food was great. The manager was very professional and made you feel very uncomfortable. Make sure you have desert... it is unbelievable.
Everything was outstanding, but thought drinks and wine a bit pricey
We did the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings.. expensive but worth every penny.
And the service was great.
Only negative was that I Wish we had been downstairs- more romantic.
This was likely one of the best meals we have ever had.
Combination of impeccable service, ambiance and taste. A place to enjoy the special moments.
My wife’s 70th Birthday. 6 friends celebrating almost 50 years of friendship! It was the perfect place for the perfect night!
Romantic ambiance in a historic setting. Good service. However, the food is not worth anything near the $109 they charge for the three-course prix fixe menu. Save your money.
We had the 8 course tasting menu and the portions were rather small. The rack of lamb was not as I expected... no rack; just a cube of meat. The service was adequate although we felt a bit rushed. My guess was still eating when the server attempted to remove my plate. This happened more than once.
Overall a pleasant but not great experience and not a tremendous value for an experience costing over $600.00.
Great dinning experience, we where there to celebrate our anniversary, and we had a great time at this place. The food was delicious and lived totally up to the expectation. Great ambience too, with a very cozy romantic setting. Staff was supper friendly and attentive. This place is a must!
Spectacular dinner and wonderful service.
If you are looking for the latest trends in food, cuisine that is experimental or following trends then this is not the place for you. If you want a classic dining experience in a romantic setting with personalised, classic service that takes you back to days gone by then One if by Land, Two if by Sea is PERFECT. How often do you still experience dinner by candlelight these days that start with a talented pianist in a wood panelled bar with open shutters to watch passersby. We celebrated two special events and the staff went above and beyond to ensure it was memorable. The food was excellent -- with the beef wellington as a stand out and both the server and the floor hostess were professional, but very personal. For a quintessential, old world, romantic NYC dinner experience, this restaurant is highly recommended.
Let me start by saying that the atmosphere was incredible. After that, not much to call home about. The drinks are over priced but the two that I had were tasty. My wife and I decided to try the Chef’s tasting menu. The tuna and mustard tartar was odd...mustard over powered everything. The duck confit tasted like homemade chicken noodle soup, the goose liver was actually really good, the scallops with quail egg and pork belly tasted more like a ham and eggs breakfast at a diner with a fishy after taste. The halibut was cooked to perfection. One of the best pan seared fish sampling’s I have ever had. I do not like pesto but this pesto sauce was great. I wish I had ordered it as my main meal. The cheese sampling was odd and I could have done without it. The “main dish” was lamb (bland) and beef Wellington which was the second best thing we had after the halibut.
The sweet finish was a chocolate soufflé that tasted like my 6 year old daughter made a batch of brownies. After tip we dropped $509!
Money would have been better spent on a Broadway show to be honest.
Loved the atmosphere and the service but was not impressed with the sea bass nor the duck dishes we ordered.
Very romantic atmosphere for this restaurant, perfect for a fancy date. Nice setting, flowers and candles, smooth lights and soft piano music. The food is excellent and even if it’s arguably rather expensive, it’s worth it. Excellent service. Oh and try the Apple Soufflé as a dessert, simply the best.
We came in around 6:30. The environment is nice but the room is too dark even with one candle on. I feel Like at lease they should turn on some small lights to make customers feel better. Beef Wellington is good. Well We gave up on the deserts, which is too heavy and below average.
No worth paying. Food was hideous. Too expensive for the quality of both food and service.
The steak and. Beef Wellington were outstanding
Foie grad and Beef Wellington was Awesome! Great service too!
This restaurant was historic and charming . White roses, candle light on each table and a grand piano and player meet you when you arrive ! The service was impeccable and the 3 or 5 price fixed menus amazing and delicious! Some tables look out onto a court yard with gardens . Aaron Burr's old carriage house is now an amazing restaurant!
One if By Land...is an outstanding restaurant for a special occasion, in this case, my aunt’s 97th Birthday! The food, service and ambiance were all wonderful! The restaurant prepared a plate with Happy 97th Birthday for her!
Very good but very limited and very expensive menu
Lovely romantic evening. Beautiful setting, lovely service. Fabulous desserts!! Even the flowers on the table were magnificent. Special venue for a very special anniversary. Everyone should add it to their list...
Great ambience. That’s what makes a restaurant for me. Food was good and desert was great. I got the appetizer, duck liver, which was great. The entree was duck breast, which was slightly raw, and was eh. My wife got the Black Sea bass, which was okay for me, but great for me. Dessert were great as well. We went around the evening time, right before it got busy so it was perfect. There appears to be upstairs seating which was not told to us.
Go to place in NYC for a romantic dinner
Amazing food and service. Great place to go for special occasions.
Visiting New York
this is absolutely Perfect for a romantic dinner. e
The severs were very friendly and the food was superb thank you for making it a special night for us
Great ambiance & professional but quite service.
Great service, beautiful setting, the bar was awesome. That being said the food (for the price) was good not great. Not sure if we would go back.
Absolutely positively phenomenal! Anniversary celebration couldn't have been any better. Very special service. Fantastic food in a romantic setting. We loved it and will be back again soon. Thank you for the outstanding experience!
Amazing. Beautiful room, great food, wonderful service.
We have already recomenddd it. We were there for 4.5 hours on our romantic honeymoon dinner. The waiter was so friendly and wonderful. The pianist played 4 songs that we had in our wedding (only one was by request). The food was so delicious we ate as slow as possible to soak it in. The wine pairings were exceptional. Yes the dinner cost a lot. But I was also fine with paying it and leaving the largest tip I’ve ever left.
Delicious dinner, honestly value was not met . We were seated right in the middle of the floor which really took away from the intimacy of the dinner. Every other table was seated around the perimeter so that was very awkward. I knew going in it would be expensive, but I wanted the experience. Unfortunately, I was let down. My husband's birthday was acknowledged, so that was very nice.
