One if by Land, Two if by Sea
We have eaten here for years and always had a great meal. Tonight, the bar was clearly overwhelmed - we waited nearly 10 minutes to order our drinks and then waited at least 10 minutes to pay as we had a dinner reservation. Our server was sweet and all of the food runners were polite and kind. We ordered the 8 course tasting menu and wine pairings. We had to remind our server after waiting for our halibut (or Branzino not sure which - server said halibut and food runner said branzino) for 15 min that it was never served. It was clear when served that this dish sat under a heat lamp for an extended period. All of the dishes served were delicious except for this one. Overall for a $600+ dinner there are plenty of other restaurants in the city to enjoy. My husband and I will Not come back.
Have been dining here since 1984 and always been pleased. Food, service and ambiance has been consistent, and excellent, whether for personal guests or corporate guests. Highly recommend this "hidden jewel" in New York!
Absolutely amazing food and experience. Perfect for a date night or special occasion. I went here with my girlfriend for our anniversary and had the Valentine’s pre-fix menu. The food was fantastic and the service was great. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful evening. Nice atmosphere with the piano playing in the background. Food and service were very good.
It was the Valentine’s Day dinner for me and my boyfriend. It was an amazing ambiance, the place looks amazing and perfect for a diner night but the service and food weren’t as good as I expected. The hostess was chewing gum while greeting us (great start), the server over poured the bottle of sparkling water (we didn’t even get the appetizer at that point), the glass of wine I ordered was poured without giving me a taste first, she just poured the glass of wine and in the restaurant industry we just don’t do things like that. So after all this I would only recommend the place for the way it looks, for the ambiance, but definitely not for the food or service. Food was not impressive in any way and ridiculously overpriced, I mean I expected that for the Valentine’s Day but this was a bit too much!
Amazing establishment with excellent food. It is a beautiful restaurant for any special event!
Can’t be more romantic, can’t feel more special, owner/manager is charming and all staff are super attentive. I’ve had better food but not in a very long time. Way better than some of the newcomers. I’ll be back. Also lols like a great place for a drink and snack at the bar.
Very romantic. You’re definitely paying more for the ambiance than the food.
Gorgeous interior. Would have loved to be able to choose our seat, but we weren't provided the option as others were. Romantic setting, delicious meal. Pricey, but definitely worth it.
An amazing experience! Our waiter was very attentive, the food was great, and the scenery was amazing!!
Myself and my wife were both born and raised in Manhattan. We dine out often including all types of restaurants including every steakhouse. I don’t believe we received any special treatment for the price we paid.
WE HAD THE PRICE FIX VALENTIN'E DAY 4 COURSE MENU FOR 150 A POP
THEY CHARGED US FOR COFFEE ..JUST SEEMED PETTY AFTER SPENDING THAT MUCH WOOD..OTHER THAN THAT..IT'S A NICE EXPERIENCE
The tag "Fifth Most Romantic Restaurant In the World" falls short of describing this place. From the pianist playing love music to the candle lit tables, the team at One if by Land, Two if by Sea, knows how to do fine dinning. The fixed menu was exquisite, my favorite dish being the Beef Wellington. The team made sure that our Valentine's day dinner was everything we hoped for and more. The table was prepared with fresh red roses, the server was very skilled and the burgundy color tie was a great touch. Perhaps the most memorable part of the night was the special plate made for us for Valentine's. I requested a dessert plate with the words "BE MINE" and they did not disappoint. Maria ensured that my special night with my lady resulted in her saying "YES." The night was so memorable that the only picture I was able to take was after the dinner was complete. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
Clearly one of the most romantic restaurants in NYC.
Booked this place for Valentine’s Day.
The only menu available that night was the 6 course pre fix Valentine’s menu. We were obligated to do the wine pairing since no other options were offered.
None of the wines were good, we ended up trying them and leaving all the glasses full.
The food was running extremely slow between courses.
The food did not meet our expectations particularly given the price we paid.
Overall not a great experience and wouldn’t recommend it.
Great piano player, wine pairing- good wine selection, terrible food and service was not worth the price. Overall can do better at other nice restaurants for less the price.
One of NYC’s treasures. Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, lovely cocktails and reliable service. You can’t go wrong.
I went for valentines dinner with my girlfriend. The environment is very romantic. The service is great and waiters are super helpful. Definitely will recommend this place.
The lamb and Wellington was excellent. The scallops appetizer was good, but the octopus not do much. The service was excellent at the table. For some reason they cancelled my reservation even though I confirmed the day before. I think the hostess just doesn't like her job. And the men's room smelled bad.
The reviews are spot on. The atmosphere is quiet, comfortable and romantic. The hostess greets you with charm and guides you to several dining areas. She asked which table we would prefer and made us feel welcomed. Service is prompt and knowledgeable. The food was delicious, every appetizer, entre and dessert. You will never be disappointed in this quiet Village restaurant. We will return.
The very best place for a quiet dinner. Excellent food, with good portions, and a very friendly staff who genuinely cares about your experience.
A charming and elegant restaurant, with outstanding service and food. The welcoming and warm atmosphere envelopes you the moment you enter the restaurant.
While expensive, you feel special throughout the entire time at One if by Land, Two if by Sea.
Very good service and food
Great ambiance, excellent service, but the food just wasn't up on par with other restaurants in this price range.
I loved it. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was perfect. The staff was wonderful
My husband and I returned to this restaurant after not being there in over 20 years, and it did not disappoint! People were dressed more casually than 20 years ago, but that could be said for almost any place. They say business casual, but there were quite a few men wearing jeans. Weekends might be different. Beautiful fireplace and piano player in the bar. Delicious food and great service. Perfect for a rainy night in the city. Cozy, welcoming vibe.
I would recommend it if you don't have a budget and not very hungry. Portions have shrunk. I do not like the idea of pre fixed menu especially if you don't want an appetizer. Souffle is excellent but is now the size of a cupcake. Service is excellent, ambience can't be beat. But $400 for dinner for 2 and 3 drinks is a little steep.
Was not impressed with the service. Slow and inattentive.
Beautiful place, service excellent, woman maitre d was great.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at One if by Land.
Extremely romantic but the noise level from some of the patrons that had been drinking got loud.
The service is great. They are attentive but know when to leave you alone.
It’s pricey but well worth it.
Absolutely loved our experience at this restaurant. Everything from the greeting to the dessert was exceptional. We started by having a cocktail in front of the fireplace. Moved to our dinner and had the beef Wellington and a fish. Both were delicious. The atmosphere was adorable and romantic and the service (thank you Greta!) was on point without being overbearing. Will recommend this to friends and will definitely be back!
This restaurant has an extraordinary setting. Charming lighting. But all the rest has the flavor of a pretentious dining experience of a 1980s New York.
Its absolutely overpriced, and for a 100 dollar 3 course prix fix, the price supplement is a nonsense. For 100 dollar you can have, for example, and entree of warm octopus salad and the main course of, for example, tofu stuffed bell peppers, and a dessert. Seems a bit much... guys..
The menu is also assembled with no logic, and its definitely not modern, with only accent on comfort food.
— We notified of a celiac guest at the time of the booking but out waiter was unprepared and didn’t knew which food choices were safe or not. I have been fine dining and casual dining in NYC for 20 years, this was one of the less pleasant dining experience ever.
Place is beautiful but I found the food not up to the price. We had two apps which were good, the scallops and the fettuccine, but my steak was mostly tendon and fat and the duck was over cooked.
Great ambiance and very romantic but at the end of it all it’s still a restaurant and the food options needs a makeover, everything is very sea food oriented.
The drinks are always done well. Not watered down. In fact you need to be careful especially if you do a wine pairing. I have fallen asleep at the table. The thing for us to get is the Chefs Tasting Menu. Love the duck pappardelle, beef wellington, and the lamb. Ambience of the place is very nice, warm, elegant. Especially if you sit on main floor by the garden. Otherwise there are other dining rooms. Some of the food is eclectic and may not suit everyones tastes. Suggest checking the menu on line first. They dont serve cheeseburgers. The manager is also very attentive. Shes always talking to you and checking things, which is rare for an upscale restaurant in nyc.
Birthday party for 30th
It's an Incredibly classy and romantic place, delicious food and impressive service from staff, perfect for a special dinner with your significant other.
Waiters were not attentive. For the price you are paying here there are better options in NYC. Food was very good but experience could have been better.
