Everything was festive, warm and inviting, with courteous, good service. The cocktails were creative and first rate. The portions of food were surprisingly small (although the prices were large), and the actual cooking was very good, but one hoped to use words like “superb” and “delicious” and those adjectives did not come up. I’d return, but my expectations will be slightly lower. Still a good Thanksgiving evening.

It’s romantic in a way most places just aren’t anymore.
Service was pretty good.
Food was subpar for the price point.
My Wellington was far beyond medium and my foie gras had a springy vein running thru it.
The dessert and the dessert options honestly felt like the bare minimum.
It’s time they invest in a consultant to improve the menu or tighten up the kitchen team.

We were totally disappointed. Got the 7 course dinner for four The scallops were not up to standards and the Beef Wellington, which is their signature dish, came almost well done when we had all ordered medium. The Halibut was overcooked. It is obvious that the kitchen is doing a mass production operation and is not taking the care required for this kind of a restaurant. In sum, we felt like we had gone to a tourist trap with a beautiful ambiance.

When we reserved the table, we asked for a table by the window on the first floor. When they called me to confirm the reservation in the morning, they said we’ll get that. But when we got there, we didn’t get what we wanted. There was a table by the window, but they didn’t give that to us. Their service is horrible. Food is just okay. I personally don’t recommend to go their for anniversary.

Good place to eat different.
Seven courses is the best option.
Been in similar type of restaurant I was expecting for a presentation of each course (details, inspiration, ingredients, etc.
Overall, very good.

That Restaurant has a wonderful tasting menu with a excellent Price / Value relationship.

Initially, they said, the tasting menu is not available - however, after insisting, it was served. That was greatly appreciated!

Expectations were high of this “romantic “ place. Pretty disappointed.
Noisy, cramped space, mediocre food, foie gras was served cold - yak.
Service is okay but very limited. Staff seemed overwhelmed possibly due to lack of servers and busboys. Bartenders seemed stressed out and unfriendly. If you don’t specify a location of the table at the time of reservation you may end up sitting next to the stairs ( literally you can lean on it).
Will I come back - no. Would I recommend to anyone - no.

Wow. Just WOW!

There is a reason this place is rated one of the very best in all of NYC. We wanted a romantic evening, with amazing food and service to celebrate our anniversary, and we were overwhelmed with the entire evening.

Our server Orchid (We asked for her name), could not have been any better. A true professional who provided us with attentive, but not intrusive service. Absolutely deserves to be recognized for outstanding service. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish was perfectly portioned and paired to perfection. Some claimed to have left hungry, but we were very satisfied by the end of the evening. Each dish seemed to be better than the last, I truly can't say one was better than the other without listing the entire menu. This evening for us was scheduled to be an intimate evening to celebrate our anniversary in class, and we were 100% happy with our experience.

For those out of towners like us, here are some tips. The restaurant is not clearly marked from the outside. It's directly next to the Ale House. We took the subway and it was a 2 minute walk from the Christopher St station. We felt very safe and its in a pretty busy part of town. They do require and verify your vaccination status prior to dining. If the price of an evening is a concern, this probably isn't the place you should look to dine. But I will say, even though this was my wife and I's most expensive dinner outside of our wedding day, I did not feel it was outrageous. Go into the evening knowing you will be treated with class and an impeccable evening. Lastly, ask for an extra piece of bread to soak up every last bit of goodness from the dish being served :)

The reviews I read were spot on. They were rated as the most romantic restaurant in New York I can can see why. We got a very quiet table with a real fire place. The food was just amazing. Expertly made drinks, and the presentation was on point. The staff were clearly well trained and performed wonderfully.

For a once-in-a-very-long-time splurge dinner, I can't imagine a better choice. We were visiting New York with friends and spent the day touring the city, finishing up with a lovely walk along the Highline and through the Little Park. We all wished we had been able to get back to the hotel and dress up a bit more, but we were made to feel completely welcome for our early evening dinner. Everything about the meal, from the seasonal cocktails to the incredible desserts, was memorable, resulting in a dinner that will be remembered for a long time to come.

We booked for my girlfriend’s birthday. The service was not great. Our waiter was not personable and borderline rude. He was more concerned with getting home than helping us have a good meal. We did the seven course meal. At the beginning of the sixth course, we were given silverware for the seventh course. The seventh course then showed up and we had to discard the sixth. Our waiter told us he “mistimed” the course. He was clearly rushing us as they were at the end of service.

However, the food was excellent, the ambience is beautiful, the guests are classy. The prices are great value and the wine menu is extensive. I especially appreciate the inclusion of a Pomerol Bordeaux that was not Petrus/Le Pin.

I proposed to my fiancé there. The host Sephion (hope I spelled that right) was INCREDIBLE. Not only did he help me pick out the perfect table, he also arranged a special message be written on the dessert plate and took video/pics when I popped the question! Food was good, portions on the small side. But I highly recommend for a romantic date night or special occasion like mine.

I was a little disappointed. It must have been busy because it felt like we were waiting 20 minutes between courses for a 7 course meal, and the food wasn't as great as I expected it to be.

It had been 11 years since we last visited One if by Land - on our 20th anniversary. We were glad to see that it was still open after the pandemic - and despite a few (not many) concerning reviews, our experience was every bit as good - if not better - as it was on our previous visit.

Orchid, our server, did a fantastic job with the right pacing, right suggestions, and right service. She even moved us to a corner table right after the couple next to us finished before we ordered our wine.

We opted for the prix fixe menu - appetizers: baby greens salad (just the right amount of dressing, feta, and temperature); grilled octopus that was tender and tasty - not chewy (some may expect crispy since it is grilled). Entrees: beef wellington - generous cut of tenderloin, cooked properly to medium rare, with just the right amount of port reduction (and yes, it makes the pastry soggy on the bottom but oh so good); duck breast with a delectable, lighter-than-air puree of celery/carrot. For desserts, which we didn't need at that point but couldn't resist, a traditional creme brulee (ate it all) and a chocolate espresso/nut/ice cream dream of a dish (licked the plate clean).

It is definitely a special occasion restaurant, but worth the price and experience. Don't hesitate to go.
