Very disappointed with the coffee and sandwiches
Given that this is not a inexpensive place to dine, the various entrees we had at our table of 11 did not provide a satisfactory experience. Mussels had little taste, scallops had no taste, duck was overcooked and salmon was eh. Pork chop was good as was the Mac and cheese.
One Bellevue has surprisingly excellent food and a good bartender! We've been three times and have been consistently impressed with the quality and selection. Compared with the more popular places like the Mooring and others, this restaurant's food is MUCH better and the atmosphere is more leisurely. The service is good though not as polished as it could be - though staff are always friendly and attentive. Service staff could learn a little more about the food to be able to describe it better. Atmosphere is nice though a little loud with the live music in the bar.
My wife and I were vacationing in Newport and tried 1 Bellevue at the recommendation of a friend. We were one of 3 couples in the entire restaurant. Even though each table had its own waiter/waitress, our service was extremely slow. The food, however, was excellent although a bit pricey. I probably would not go back, given all the other excellent restaurants to choose from in Newport.
While the space itself is beautiful, I was underwhelmed by both the service and the food. We arrived and were seated, and we told them that we were there for afternoon tea. They brought us a menu but gave no instructions. When the server returned, my spouse indicated that she would like the gluten free options, and we were informed that we could not split the order so I would be having gluten free as well. I let them know that we also had a nut allergy, so we would not want anything with almonds - they were actually very accommodating about this, which was a plus. We wanted to order the Royal Tea with champagne, but they didn't actually ask us, and so we had to catch the server before he left the table to ask for it. We selected our teas and they brought hot water, but never inquired about milk, which we wanted. We also didn't receive our champagne. After some time, a new server came to tell us that she would be taking care of us from that point on. We asked for and finally received our drinks. When our tiered tray of food came, they told us they were making sure that there were no nuts in the scones by re-reading the packaging. We were served tea sandwiches on gluten free bread (cucumber and cream cheese, a few with smoked salmon, and some with a sun-dried tomato spread). We also had two types of gluten free scones - chocolate chip and one that was maybe dates or figs? We also had fresh fruit instead of small cakes or truffles. I appreciate that they accommodated both a nut and a gluten allergy, but there were two of us at the table and I have had tea at other establishments where the food sensitivity of one was not imposed on all parties. Service was slow, and other tables remarked on it as well. Overall, fair, but I wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend this to other diners.
Small hotel-based restaurant located in the elegant Viking Hotel a few minutes walking distance from Thames street and the tourist onslaught. Heavy Euro feel to the hotel lobby and restaurant. Very attentive service, pleasant staff, comfortable dining room, creative menu and presentation, suitable for all ages. Bar area has live music and appears to be one of the places to go for affluent millennials. There are two dining rooms both equally as nice but request seating in the one farthest from the bar for a better experience.
Hot and cold...literally.
Fairly inattentive staff
Tuna tartare was tasteless and gray. Salad was good.
Molasses salmon was very good.
NY strip was supposed to be medium rare, came out pretty close to well done. Sauce was good, potatoes came out cold, steak was hot. For a $42 steak it should be perfectly cooked.
Took a long time to get a second drink.
Some things were good, some things were not. For an iconic hotel I was hoping for more.
We had the seafood paella which was supposed to be for two, but portion size was definitely for one person and it was just "ok". No flavor. It seems the quality has gone down since the hotel was bought recently. Last summer we had a great meal and experience at this restaurant. Also, the cocktail list was not as extensive or good as it was last summer. Waitress was just ok also. Not very attentive especially since there were very few customers. Lots of servers/busers running around, but not sure what they were doing.
The filet mignon was the best I've ever had! Cooked to perfection and so tender no need for a steak knife!
My meal here wasn't anything special and after reading some very good reviews I was disappointed. Service was slow and the scene/ambiance was pretty dead. The food was okay. I had seafood paella which was very fishy.
Absolutely terrific and attentive staff. We were offered 3 different table choices to sit at for our party of 7. Although we wanted to sit outside on the beautiful patio, the weather didn't work in our favor. The staff already had a back up table for us waiting in the dining room. Food and Ambiance was just perfect for a birthday dinner. Highly recommend the paella for 2!
Quiet..good service.. excellent food!
Great garden and the staff was kind and accommodating but the food needed some improvement - delivery temperature, seasoning, timing were all issues.
We originally requested to sit outside but it was very windy and cold for dinner. We went downstairs where we asked for a table. The hostess asked us for our names and she immediately knew who we were and wished us a happy 35th wedding anniversary. We sat inside, overlooking the garden where there were a few fireplaces and one water garden, which was very pretty.
Our meal was very good and after we finished our waiter said that One Bellevue would like to buy us dessert.
Enjoyed a drink before dinner on the rooftop bar overlooking Newport. Then a nice dinner on a quiet night in the restaurant - excellent pork chops and scallops. Very attentive service because it was a quiet Monday evening.
Had afternoon tea. Second time. Scones amazing. Sandwiches ok. Macarons delicious. Pound cake ok.
Delicious dinner, creative menu options, beautiful presentation, excellent service, special location.
It was perfect from beginning to end, and we didn't want to have the hassle of the hustle and bustle of the wharf congestion, this is definitely a repeat, thank you for being here in Newport
Lobster nachos were delish! Food was presented well.
The food was delicious. Service was wonderful. So nice to get away from noisy dining.
Beautiful hotel nice romantic aviance. Menu was not as advertised in the web. Special were weak. Settled on the the paella special and they advertised a bottle of wine to go go with the dish... wine not so good and they did not have a wine on the menu that would have went with the dish. Fish was good but lobster was over cooked. Not a lot of rice but I kind of liked that. Very underwhelming I was expecting more
Was not too pleased with the food at all. The calamari was awful. Dry overcooked and pretty much all batter no calamari. We had romaine with Salmon the salmon was very overcooked also. The bar area was nice- good entertainment and nice place to socialize. Next time we'll eat somewhere else ad perhaps visit the viking for a cocktail during entertainment.
AWESOME soups! Love the rounds tables. We will go back!
Okay food overall, service better than the food, chowder tasty, french onion soup tasty, lobster mac n cheese-good, chicken puttanesca dry-returned it, scallops-eh, lamb-okay, fish n chips tasty, lobster paella tasty, pork chop-dry n hard, filet mignon good, boston creme tasty, gluten free chocolate cake-no good, espresso martini tasty, wine decent, champagne decent, negroni-wrong kind of ice for drink, ambiance good.
Excellent service, excellent food. Waitress Spencer was most helpful and friendly.
I went there with my family for Restaurant Week. The service was fine, not particularly attentive but not horrendous. Same goes for the food.. of the four of us, we tried 3 different entrees, 2 were very good, 2 were mediocre at best. The highlight of the night was the musician in the next room. He was exceptional and very underappreciated by the sparse audience on a weeknight.
The calamari share was delicious and the service was attentive and excellent.
We were celebrating a special birthday. We wanted the evening to be memorable. Staff was very attentive and courteous. Food was very good. The Birthday girl had a wonderful time. We all enjoyed ourselves.
My husband and I enjoyed the lunch menu for Resturant Week. Our waitress Michelle was wonderful and has a great attention to all her customers needs,Thank you Chef
Newport has loads of great restaurants and this one gets added to my list. A block up from the water, but a very nice atmosphere and most everything was very good. Fun, a tad upscale but very nice. The Viking is an older (stately) hotel.
One Bellevue is a must when in Newport. Gourmet food, well presented, generously portioned. Fantastic atmosphere in Garden Room or outdoor patio. Great service. We love Spencer - friendly, professional, efficient, just the right amount of attentiveness.
We made reservations, but they sat us as soon as we arrived, 20 mins early. Hostess was fun and friendly, and they made my boyfriends birthday dinner extra special. Great Wine List. Small menu, but good choices and fresh .
The restaurant was quiet but romantic. Went there for the Paella & Wine. The paella was chock full of shellfish which was fresh & cooked perfectly... the rice in the paella was sparce & the flavor didn't measure up to other paellas I have had. But it was a good value & I'd rather have more seafood & less rice if I had to make a choice so I would do it again & definitely recommend it!!
First time there, but won't be the last. Dining room very warm, and inviting. Can't wait until the outside patio is open.
Soup, Salad, Entree and desert were all very good. Wait staff forgot to bring bread to the table - had to ask for it as we were finishing our salads. Other than that, service was good.
The ambiance was fantastic but unfortunately the food seemed bland and the exterior of the steak was burn and the chowder which we had heard great things about tasted like Campbell's clam chowder with a scrap of lobsters, 2 small shrimp and the thinnest scallop I have ever seen floating in the middle. The dinner was not worth the high price tag.
We had a lovely dinner. Service was excellent. I was somewhat disappointed as I had specifically chosen the restaurant for the Rack of Lamb on the menu online which had since changed. The Lamb dish I had however was good but not as good as Rack of Lamb.
Inside the Hotel Viking is a gem of s restaurant. The French onion soup is amazing and the wedge salad is so good. Had breakfast buffet and the burger all good. And the afternoon tea was a great afternoon meal. Delicious!
This place was attached to the hotel we were staying at. We chose this based on past reviews and convenience. When we were seated the top of the table was cracked; the waiter didn't seem to care. While we were waiting to order, we noticed a table send their food back and another table only eat a few bites of theirs. So, being that it was last and we were hungry, we thought that at least the appetizers would be safe. We were wrong. Soggy calamari and way over salted flat bread. Our server had zero reaction when we talked to him about our displeasure. We will never eat there again.
We booked a reservation for tea on the 3rd Sunday in January because their website advertised that they have a live harpist during tea "ever Sunday in January". Unfortunately there was no harpist and the management did not seem to know why. This was the only reason we chose to have tea at this location so we were very disappointed especially after driving an hour to get there.
The service was ok- the girl who waited on us was very nice but looked like she had been cooking all day (kind of messy in appearance with stains on her clothes). She seemed a little overwhelmed.
The food was good but they forgot to place one of the items (clotted cream) on the tray and gave it to us about half way through. But in general it was a pleasant experience- unfortunately just not what we were hoping for.
