On The Verandah Ratings and Reviews
As usual, the food was very good. What was different this time was the service...not so good. I am usually pretty forgiving of oversights from waiter/waitresses because I know they generally work very hard for not much more than adequate pay. Nevertheless, our waiter was less than attentive; interrupted me once when I was trying to say something to him; and perhaps this will say it all: we had to ask the bus boy to bring some bread to us midway through our meal...the waiter never brought it to us.
Very pleased that we changed plans for convenience (for us) of OTV’s location, and had a wonderful meal in a great setting as a result. Enjoyed cocktails, selected a nice bottle from the sizable and not too pricey wine list, terrific salads, appetizers and entrees, shared desserts. The internal ambiance isn’t much to speak of, but it’s clean, comfortable and has the lake-view, so who cares. Waitstaff could have used another body, but managed to be friendly and helpful.
This is an excellent restaurant, food, location, ambiance. As expensive as any of the other excellent restaurants in Highlands. We try to eat here every time we come to Highlands. I consider it one of the top four or five restaurants in Highlands and I place it as either #1 or 2 in my personal rankings. I've never been disappointed.
I have a vacation house in Highlands and there are a lot of great restaurants here, but none have the lake view and ambiance of The Veranda. I eat here when I want good food and beautiful nature views. I don’t save it for special occasions only. The food is gourmet quality. The menu has multiple choices. The wine list is extensive. Also the music is lovely but not so long as to impede conversation.
Amazing ambiance, food, and service. Although disappointed not to be outside as requested two weeks ago, it was still a wonderful night. If you want to sit outside (and trust me you do!). Request a month in advance. Is especially difficult for two as tables for two are limited.
Our waitress was amazing, very personable. Food was excellent. The only down side was we had made reservations thinking we would get waterfront seating. Was told that they had a number of walk ins so waterfront was full. Wish reservations received priority. Other than that it was terrific.
On the Verandah was recommended to me as a special place to take my wife for our anniversary. We drove almost an hour from Lake Rabun and it was well worth the drive, which was also wonderful with amazing views and overlooks. The food was awesome. We share an appetizer that was a dish sautéed local mushrooms and then both had an amazing spinach salad with maple dressing and goat cheese. For entree's my wife and I each had one of the evening specials. She loved the Halibut special and I thoroughly enjoyed and devoured the NY cut steak. For deserts she had the Mississippi Mud Pie with freshly made Oreo ice cream and I had the blueberry and peach fruit pie. The view of the lake and surrounding was just as wonderful as the meal and we had an incredible time!
We had a wonderful evening with a porch table overlooking the lake. Our waitress, De-Anna (spelling ?) was delightful ! She was very polished and professional with a quick wit and great sense of humor. My small plate and spinach salad was perfect for me. My husbands trout, while tasty, had too many bones!!!!! That is the ONLY thing negative about the experience. Love On the Veranda.
We were there for hurricane Irma. Their power was out and they lit candles and cooked via gas. I was very impressed that they stayed open and went the extra mile and made it a wonderful evening. Thank you On the veranda! Your food, service and wine was still a xceptional even with the outage...we were escorted out via flashlight trail...very special!
Do not miss this place! We got a last minute tip to try On The Verandah during our trip to Highlands and were lucky enough to snag a late reservation.
Laid back vibe with fantastic food--both scallops and steak prepared excellently. Service was attentive and engaging without being overwhelming. We left impressed and with full bellies. We will definitely return.
This was our first time at this restaurant and it was outstanding! We were vacationing in the Highlands area and decided to give it a try. Our table was right against the screened in windows overlooking the lake. Beautiful view! Food, service, and wine list were top notch.
As always a great meal with a pleasant view of the tranquil lake from the Verandah. My wife had the filet. It was tender and cooked to perfection on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and flanked with crispy asparagus spears. I had the halibut special. It was Panko crusted with horseradish sauce and garnished with carrots and hericots verts. The service was efficient and friendly. My only negative comment was the noise level on the patio when hosting a full compliment of guests. Our favorite place to dine out in Highlands.
We were up visiting from Atlanta and I was so excited to go try this place, however my husband and I both thought the food was just average. None of what we ate stood out or would be something we would go back for. My trout had good flavor (again, I wouldn't got back for it) and the side veggies were a couple of boring green beans and some cooked carrots. Pretty spot with nice view, staff was good, just not impressed with what we ordered.
We dined here recently at sunset, with a table on the outdoor deck. The setting was beautiful, the food was very good, and the service was good although slow. (The wait person said that two wait personnel were out unexpectedly.)
The appetizer and salad were well-prepared and the entrees were excellent. I thought that the food was priced fairly with regard to its contents and quality. The wine list was extensive but the wine markups seemed higher than usual and there were not enough mid-range wines on the list.
Overall a very good choice but with better service (which may have been a temporary problem) and a wine list not quite as loaded to the upscale I would have loved it.
