Normally this was a great restaurant when we come to Highlands. Food was sub par last night.
Great food, great atmosphere! Will be back!
Had a wonderful dinner with my husband here. I had the duck and it was perfect with a great sauce and sides. My husband had a steak which was cooked nicely but had an odd tasting sauce and the steak wasn't seasoned with salt at all. I will mention that the appetizer lobster and seafood bisque were both amazing. Overall was a great experience and would return. The pianist was lively and a bit loud. Would definitely recommend toning it down.
Fantastic food and wonderful service. Plan on going to dinner again before we leave the Highlands.
My wife and I booked a reservation for two people on January 15th for a dinner on February 10th through OpenTable, so nearly a month in advance. When we arrived on February 10th, the restaurant was not open. It may well be closed for the winter season. If we had been contacted during that month to let us know that the restaurant was not serving, we would have happily booked somewhere else and had no complaint. However, we were not informed that the restaurant would be closed, by any party, via email or the phone. We came away disappointed and surprised by the lack of professionalism.
If you are considering a reservation at the restaurant (it looks like OpenTable is still accepting reservations at the time of this review), I would confirm directly with the restaurant that they are serving customers that night.
Nothing too special. Good food with decent creativity. Stay clear of any steak as the meat was tough a shoe leather and Walmart quality at best. Spinach and goat cheese salad was great, the other salads blaring and taste like they are out of a bag. The service was ok, although white table cloth they clear plates individually which is a no no if u r shooting for high end. So this is causal dining and it’s ok.
Meh. It was average food that was overpriced. At night and there are no lights illuminating the pond, so there really wasn't any view. The food seemed like a menu from the 90s, so nothing new and exciting. The duck I ate was good, but could be better. My wife had the trout and it was not good. How does a restaurant in "trout country" not have a good trout dish? There are many better choices in Highlands , NC. Meh. If you love food, this is not the place for you. If you want something average and overpriced, then you will enjoy it.
Food was very good but the piano was much too loud; it was difficult to have conversations. Quieter music would be nice.
The food was excellent. Wait staff was cheerful and very helpful. The wine list and menu are both world class. Elegant but not stuffy atmosphere. There is a wine bar with live jazz. Altogether a great evening!! Highly recommend.
We ate here for Thanksgiving Buffet and the food and service were very good. This restaurant is located on a river and we were able to sit on the veranda and
have an excellent view of the river. It was perfect for Thanksgiving!
Have been here many times and never disappointed. Excellent food & service.
Wonderful Thanksgiving Buffet.
Tasted like homemade!!!
Disappointed by the high cost and low quality. Two in our party sent their halibut entree back because it was over done, almost tough. The veranda was so noisy, we could hardly have a conversation.
We eat here every time we come to Highlands and it's consistently fabulous!! From the wine selection to desserts and everything in between, you can't make a bad selection. The duck dish is my favorite (I've never loved duck until I had it here) and the fish specials are always great too. All of the desserts are homemade and delectable! Be sure to try the chocolate pecan pie or raspberry apple pie!
Debra was wonderfully attentive, knowledgeable and helpful -- backed up by a seemingly flawless kitchen, and ample portions of lovely cuisine -- a great experience!!
The ambiance and live music was wonderful. Food and service was excellent.
The food was wonderful and we found a favorite wine, that we can’t get back home, on their wine list! The atmosphere and lighting was so nice and service was excellent.
As usual, the food was very good. What was different this time was the service...not so good. I am usually pretty forgiving of oversights from waiter/waitresses because I know they generally work very hard for not much more than adequate pay. Nevertheless, our waiter was less than attentive; interrupted me once when I was trying to say something to him; and perhaps this will say it all: we had to ask the bus boy to bring some bread to us midway through our meal...the waiter never brought it to us.
The food was just fabulous. We have eaten there for years, and this meal was the best ever. Thanks for a great night!
Very pleased that we changed plans for convenience (for us) of OTV’s location, and had a wonderful meal in a great setting as a result. Enjoyed cocktails, selected a nice bottle from the sizable and not too pricey wine list, terrific salads, appetizers and entrees, shared desserts. The internal ambiance isn’t much to speak of, but it’s clean, comfortable and has the lake-view, so who cares. Waitstaff could have used another body, but managed to be friendly and helpful.
Sunday brunch was scrumptious, as always! Our server was superb!
The food here is excellent. They have an extensive wine list. On my next trip I will ask to be seated on the porch to have a better view of Lake Sequoia.
Wife and I had another wonderful dinner at OTV. Food is great, service perfect (no hovering) and a nice view of the lake. Whenever we come up from Georgia to fish we make sure to have dinner here at least once.
This is one of our favorite places in the mountains. You know you will always have a good meal and good service.
This is an established long running successful restaurant now past it's prime. A remodel and menu update is badly needed
This is an excellent restaurant, food, location, ambiance. As expensive as any of the other excellent restaurants in Highlands. We try to eat here every time we come to Highlands. I consider it one of the top four or five restaurants in Highlands and I place it as either #1 or 2 in my personal rankings. I've never been disappointed.
So much fun!!! Beautiful ambiance and view. Great food and we loved Debroah our waitress. Perfect night out.
Very good food and service. Great to sit on enclosed porch and see the lake!
I have a vacation house in Highlands and there are a lot of great restaurants here, but none have the lake view and ambiance of The Veranda. I eat here when I want good food and beautiful nature views. I don’t save it for special occasions only. The food is gourmet quality. The menu has multiple choices. The wine list is extensive. Also the music is lovely but not so long as to impede conversation.
Amazing ambiance, food, and service. Although disappointed not to be outside as requested two weeks ago, it was still a wonderful night. If you want to sit outside (and trust me you do!). Request a month in advance. Is especially difficult for two as tables for two are limited.
Our waitress was amazing, very personable. Food was excellent. The only down side was we had made reservations thinking we would get waterfront seating. Was told that they had a number of walk ins so waterfront was full. Wish reservations received priority. Other than that it was terrific.
We made these reservations for our cousins. They enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.
Outstanding! Beautiful view of the lake. Very quiet setting. Superb wine list. The halibut dinner was amazing!
Ambience was the best thing about the restaurant. Food and service were lacking. Not worth the money.
Great value for Sunday Brunch. The food was delicious; great salad bar. Good service too.
Definitely a wonderful choice when you're visiting Highlands.
Food was good not great, server was rude but warmed up as the meal went along, not worth the money. View was great though
On the Verandah was recommended to me as a special place to take my wife for our anniversary. We drove almost an hour from Lake Rabun and it was well worth the drive, which was also wonderful with amazing views and overlooks. The food was awesome. We share an appetizer that was a dish sautéed local mushrooms and then both had an amazing spinach salad with maple dressing and goat cheese. For entree's my wife and I each had one of the evening specials. She loved the Halibut special and I thoroughly enjoyed and devoured the NY cut steak. For deserts she had the Mississippi Mud Pie with freshly made Oreo ice cream and I had the blueberry and peach fruit pie. The view of the lake and surrounding was just as wonderful as the meal and we had an incredible time!
Awesome in every way!! Food was amazing!
