Dined on the verandah in July and this past weekend. Always great and the best view in Highlands!
There were 6 of us. I had the trout with lemon sauce and it was just okay (lacked seasoning and too lemony) but the other entrees served were outstanding. Piano music was a nice background and the view of the lake is breathtaking.
Excellent view - very scenic. Lovely restaurant with outstanding service. Food was very good as well. Piano and singer in the bar area. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and evening.
Spectacular - ambiance, food, service! I’d go back in a second.
Great dining and impeccable service as always!
On the Verandah is my favorite place to eat in Highlands. I always get the Thai Curry Shrimp and it never disappoints, so good. I usually get several bites of my daughters Ribeye which is a delicious addition.
We celebrated my birthday with dinner at this restaurant. It was splendid. Wonderful service and breathtaking scenery.
The food was creative and delicious!
I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to celebrating many future events here!
Food was absolutely incredible. The server recommended Lobster and it was
one of the best meals I've had...ever!
Service was very good. My only suggestion would be to expand your selection of
wines by the glass.
We visited On the Verandah with our daughter and son-in-law and were seated on the terrace on a perfect summer evening. We enjoyed the view of the water and our waiter (a lovely woman with beautiful blue eyes but I don't remember her name) was just terrific. She recommended a wine that we LOVED and seemed very well versed on the subject. The trout was lovely as was the lamb appetizer and shrimp rolls. YUM. We enjoyed every moment at Verandah and hope to return soon.
Really like the porch area. We had eaten there half a dozen times both inside and outside. The porch and outside area is superb, and the inside area is cozy and intimate with great music. The menu offers an array of options for anyone's desire. The service was great!
We brought our family to Highlands, NC for a vacation and had dinner out on the screened porch with a few down to the lake. The food was a bit on the expensive side but overall had family time and a nice dinner.
This is a wonderful restaurant. It sits on a small lake and and the view is so calming. The food is great and the service impeccable.
The food was mediocre. The piano music was extremely loud. The two of us could not hear each other or carry on a conversation and we were in the next room. Very pricey. Will not recommend to our friends. Nor will we return.
The food was fine: I had the duck. We might have had dessert but you know what? The dessert menu was so dog-earned and stained that it was a real turn off. The waitress left a lot to be desired. She stacked up the plates when we were finished, noisily, a knife dropped on the floor and she left it there. Did she come right back for it? No. She left it there, helped another table and finally came to our table, stepping on the knife until we reminded her it might be dangerous to leave it on the floor. No, we were not staying for dessert.
The piano was a monotonous drone in the background: nothing on line had said there would be music.
As first timers and newbies to the area we would never have known we were feet from the water until after dinner when we walked out to the terrace! Too bad.
No, we will not be recommending On The Veranda.
Terrible experience from the minute we walked in the door. The hostess must have been having a bad night. She was extremely rude. The food was mediocre. The server was good but busy with other tables. The ambience was not what it is cracked up to be. If you don’t sit on the deck near the water, it isn’t worth it.
We had reservations but it didn’t seem to matter. We were seated at a table in the middle of the dining room. Not enjoyable and I don’t care to return.
Hostess was very accommodating since we had to change the time twice to later since we had just finished playing golf.
Food and atmosphere were excellent but service was a bit slow this time. I feel it was one-time occurrence because of some other large tables that night. I have been there before and always enjoyed the experience.
I thought the food was just average. The Calamari was super greasy but otherwise everything else was okay. Great view of the lake and hummingbirds!
Daniel took excellent care of us on a busy night. The food was really wonderful....from appetizer to dessert. Lovely view of the lake at sunset. Thank you.
Had Sunday brunch, with excellent food and service from Deanna!
We visited this restaurant based on a friends recommendation. Unfortunately is was not a great experience. We waited about 40 minutes after being seated to receive our drink order, and the service went down from there. Those who ordered steaks enjoyed their meals, but the members of our group that ordered grouper were very disappointed (it was overcooked).
We had eaten at Madison's the day before and the entire experience was fabulous. Our waitress could not have been more attentive or thoughtful. It's unfortunate, that our dining experience at On the Veranda was the complete opposite.
We celebrated a special birthday and enjoyed it very much. Food, service were all good. Also enjoyed the piano. Not too loud but entertaining
Great food, and the service was excellent. Great view also
The service is out standing! The view is out of this world! And the food what can I say it is remarkable!!!
Food, atmosphere and service was impeccable
Excellent meal. Excellent service. Sommelier service outstanding
We always love going to On The Verandah. One of our favorite spots to dine and for Sunday brunch. Great food, good service!
Excellent food! We went all out and got the cheese board, 2 salads-spinach with goat cheese and Caesar salad. Both salads were Delish! I got the lobster and hubby got filet. So good!! Too full for dessert. Highly recommend!!
I was surprised that the food quality was fair, not what we had heard from others. Our server, though well-intentioned in her service, must have bathed in cologne or perfume. Unfortunately we were smelling her fragrance all night even though we were on the open air veranda. Disappointed.
My son and his girlfriend’s first restaurant in Highlands. Phenomenal evening. Great service, food, drinks wine choices and desserts. Perfect start to our week in the mountains. Always love coming here.
Excellent service and food every time we are there
This restaurant’s setting - on Lake Sequoyah - is really beautiful. Dinner was hit-and-miss; the coq au vin was quite good, while the halibut was just okay. The pianist provided a nice ambiance, at just the right volume, and the service was adequate.
Very enjoyable, excellent food. Would not hesitate to go back
I’ve been at least 5 times and always very good! Excellent service, friendly staff and beautiful scenery.
Love this restaurant - especially Sunday brunch with bloody Mary bar. Very special place in Highlands.
Not to be missed.
On the Verandah ( where our party of four actually were seated) is consistently an outstanding choice for dining. Despite the rainy evening, the view of the lake is lovely. All else takes a back seat to the menu offerings which, in my experience, have never failed to disappoint. If you were eavesdropping you might have heard people at our table say "best halibut preparation I've ever tasted," or " I never cared for trout until I experienced it the way that Over the Verandah prepares it." Honestly, I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
First visit for friends—they loved it! We always enjoy an evening On the Verandah and love sharing it with friends.
The food was great, our waiter was stupendous and attended to our every need. The lamb chops were perfectly prepared! Don't hesitate to book a reservation because this place was packed!
This restaurant came highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated immediately on the veranda. Our waiter was attentive, perhaps too much so. He asked how we liked our entree at least 4 times. Between that and the guy refilling our water glasses, the interruptions were a little too much. It got a little load, so much so that we couldn’t hear the piano at times. The food was fantastic and the waiter was very knowledgeable. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely return.
We always enjoy the expertly prepared food which is savory and delicious. The hostesses need to focus on providing a warm welcome and assuring that contact by the wait staff is timely. The greeting and seating is very mechanical and does not create a feeling of “glad you are here”. Upon leaving, I expect to be recognized again and thanked for coming. Really... this is just common courtesy.
