On The Marsh Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We were visiting Kennenbunkport and made the reservation before we got there. We enjoyed it so much, we made a second reservation but due to the weather to cancel. The restaurant was decorated so beautifully for Christmas which made it special. It was also recommended by the locals as a great place for food and Mbiance.
Took parents for combined 80th birthday celebration and holiday dinner. They had never been and loved the restaurant. Mom had scallops with lobster risotta and Dad enjoyed the Statler chicken breast. It was a busy "Prelude" night, but everything was perfect! From the moment you arrive and enter through the trellis walkway, you feel you are transported back to a time of simplicity and elegance. Can't help but relax, unwind and enjoy a lovely evening!
We look forward to our visit to On The Marsh when we visit Kennebunkport. We usually visit during one of their busiest nights of the year, so I have never visited without a reservation and do not know how it is on a typical night.
We hold the restaurant to a high standard, having frequented it over the years. The food is always very good, the service helpful and knowledgeable, and during the holidays they usually have live piano and carolers (which I always enjoy.) My husband was very impressed with his cup of Lobster Stew, which he determined to have an entire lobster worth of meat in it.
This year one could observe a shortage in staff everywhere in town. It was obvious in every restaurant (and from other visitor's stories) that most places seemed to be understaffed. Therefore I felt we noticed the change as well. Service was not as attentive and things were slow at times. Everyone was clearly doing their best and I do not think it is a reflection on the staff or restaurant- just clearly an issue all around.
Still we had a very good meal, at a romantic table, enjoyed carolers, and overall had a very nice evening. We look forward to our next visit.
I have eaten her 6 times and the last 3 have been quite unacceptable. I won't bore you with the details. On occasion number 4, our entree never came....I mean never came after an hour and 45 minutes of promising almost ready nothing. The service person finally had the common sense to admit he had no clue when or if it would arrive and suggested we just leave.
I love the decour and ambiance which is why I kept trying to give another shot. This last meal, my chowder was cool, Caesar salad bland and the Haddock À La Meuniere dry as bone. It was served as brick over a teaspoon of mashed and spinach. Realizing it was going to be hit or miss I saved some of my "reheated lobster chowder" and poured that over the fish ....actually quite tasty. Fish A La Meuniere implies a thin lightly saute fish with a wonderful interpenetration of Beurre blanc sauce. Sorry guys...I really want to love this place, like my first visit.
We dined on the Friday night of Christmas Prelude. We had reservations and when we called to move our reservation to an earlier hour the restaurant was very accommodating. We were seated promptly and greeted warmly by our server. We were a party of four. We enjoyed our cocktails with our starters, three salads and one butternut squash bisque. Our entrees arrived promptly, one haddock, one chicken, and two scallops with lobster risotto. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. However I took one bite of the lobster risotto and realized it was full of bacon! I do not eat bacon so I was quite surprised and disappointed as there was no mention on the menu of bacon being a key ingredient. Every one enjoyed their meals overall.
On the Marsh has quickly become our new favorite in the area! The unique decor, staff and exquisite culinary flavors are truly among the best we've ever enjoyed. We decide on oysters, caesar salad, day boat scallops with risotto and the lemon haddock with wilted spinach. All outstanding! The piano bar and entertainer added a warm glow to the beautiful holiday atmosphere. Keep doing what you're doing On the Marsh~fantastic job!
We chose this restaurant for Thanksgiving based on OpenTable reviews (and limited options). It turned out to be a great choice - lovely atmosphere, servers were extremely warm and friendly (especially since they were working on a holiday) and the food was great! The menu wasn’t limited to traditional Thanksgiving choices, which was nice since I’m not a big fan of turkey, etc. All in all, a wonderful experience and I’d choose it again next year if they’re serving!
We had an absolutely fabulous Thanksgiving dinner! There was, understandably, a bit of a wait but it was worth it. The bartender’s tasty Prosecco and Cider served up in the holiday spirit was a great start.
We ordered the traditional turkey dinner and wasn’t disappointed. More than an ample amount of delicious sweet potato, white garlic mashed potato, green beans, and turkey with stuffing topped off with a side of gravy.
The Inn was tastefully decorated, we loved the holiday music played by the pianist, and the service was excellent from start to finish! Thank you OTM for such a lovely afternoon.
On The Marsh has to be on my list of top restaurants! A very special dining experience.
Always a great meal, our lobster stew app was extraordinary with lots of lobster, my wife's ceasar salad was crisp and
Tasty. My steak was cooked perfectly and delicious, my wife's paddock was wonderful. The two waitresses were attententive but not intrusive. Desserts were super
I made reservations here for a romantic dinner. Well, the restaurant is beautiful decorated, I ask for Table Sixteen as it’s their table tucked in a corner and romantic-it said on line. The table of 12 across the restaurant were SO load we thought of moving or leaving. Our menus were on the table with a special insert served 4-7pm. We sat at our table at 6:45. After I decided on an entree from that insert the hostess came over and oh someone told my you had the inserts and your not supposed too. Well that someone was the waitress whom only talked to my husband (which made him feel uncomfortable as well as me) As the hostess took off with the insert I said to my husband well two thumbs down-loud table and special insert gone! She must have heard me as she came back and said well most of the items are sold out but you can have either this or that. Really??? Not the nice quite, romantic dinner we drove to Kennebunk for.
My new favorite restaurant! I hardly ever give 5 stars across the board, but I did for this restaurant. From the moment we drove in to the parking lot, walking through the lovely, whimsical, magical landscape, to opening the door and then viewing the tastefully whimsical and magical interior setting as well, I was enchanted. We had a lovely table for 4 with beautiful comfy wing back chairs with pillows, that I'm pretty sure looked out over the marsh but it was dark so hard to say. Our hostess was extremely welcoming, the server, Beth, delightful. Our water glasses were topped off frequently (maybe a little too often but I'm not complaining). Our drinks were delightful; I loved my blood orange margarita. The lobster bisque was to die for. The small wedge salads delightful. Scallops with bacon, corn and lobster risotto, heavenly - and I don't even like risotto but couldn't pass up the combo. The desserts were out of this world - lemon marscapone cake, apple dumpling (I cannot remember the exact name) warm with vanilla ice cream and a chocolate cake that was also too die for. I'm gushing, but I mean it. We had a wonderful meal with terrific friends further enhanced by a magical setting and staff. We will be back - Bravo!!!
