On The Marsh Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The food was fabulous. Fun ambience but service was terrible; felt like we were inconveniencing the waitress. It seemed they were understaffed which is understandable; all it would have taken was a word to that effect and a more welcoming attitude. We would give it another shot because everything else was great and hopefully it was an exceptionally low staffed night.
Or server was fabulous!!
I am not an easy person to be pleased when it comes to food! The food was greaT BUT Our server was fabulous.. I would have JUST enjoyed my lobster Pasta more if you used fresh organic tomatoes instead of chunk. otherwise everything was great.
I thought the atmosphere was fun and inviting and the staff were welcoming and friendly . There was a long wait for the food which was very good but overpriced. My husband and I had sandwiches, one cocktail each and split a dessert .. the bill came to $75. The desert was disappointing.. it was a baked apple in a pastry puff.. the apple was hard and there was very little caramel provided- maybe a little caramel side and a thouroughly cooked apple would have made this dessert outstanding and worth the price! The restrooms were fabulous- I love personal hand towels ! I think with a little tweaking regarding food presentation it would be an outstanding restaurant and I wouldn’t mind the prices!
This restaurant is and always has been excellent. The staff and service are impeccable. That said... There has been a change of management and the things that made this place truly special have suffered. The small bites menu is gone. The extra touches are gone. Prices, however, have remained. I will still recommend this spot, but it no longer as special as it once was.
Their winter special ($12 for a main dish and two sides) is a bargain. But the food is worth about $12. The salad side is good, but the meal itself was a big nothing. The place is pretty, but I wonder if you turn on the lights, will the place look clean? The rug going into the dining room was in need of vacuuming. The service is pleasant, but inexperienced. The walkway is icy. If I had to pay their regular prices, I would have been quite unhappy. This place is not for me.
We had the most delicious meal! Scallops over lobster risotto! Our waitress Jess was the BEST! She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and got everything we wanted out of the evening. We enjoyed the romantic and quiet atmosphere as well as the bar and piano music! We will absolutely be back for more!
Thank you so much!
Took advantage of early dinner special menu offered 4-6 pm Monday- Thursday in the winter months. Comfort food such as spaghetti and meatballs, stuffed haddock, chicken pot pie, meatloaf with a choice of side only $12. Wines for $5. Great deal for local dinners. Our Bookclub was very pleased. Beautiful dinning space and charming service.
We enjoyed the “Comfort” menu. This happens from Monday through Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM. The entrees were around $12 and there was a good selection of wine for $5 per glass. This really contrasts with the normal pricing at this restaurant, where entrees are at least $25 and wine by the glass at least $10. The size of the portions was moderate rather than too large. So we enjoyed the meal and came away with a good value. This probably doesn’t happen in season, but for year-round Mainers, it is a good deal.
We will definitely return while this deal is on.
The only bad thing was the acoustics of the restaurant. The wooden ceiling magnified the conversations at other tables, making it a bit loud.
We have dined at On the Marsh frequently over the past several years and have come to expect the excellence I think you pride yourself on, but we were very disappointed last night. We were looking forward to our New Year’s Eve dinner and made reservations weeks in advance. We had a 9:15 reservation and were seated after a reasonable wait, for such a busy evening, at 9:30. But we were then greeted with an extensive list of what was no longer available on the menu, including everything lobster....how can this happen when you have a definitive number of reservations? Needless to say, everything we were looking forward to having wasn’t to be had. It was explained to us you graciously accepted Hurricanes reservations... but maybe you should of made sure you had enough food for your loyal patrons who chose your establishment over theirs! Our New Years Eve experience was a disappointment.
We had a 9 PM reservation for New Year’s Eve. We hadn’t yet been to On the Marsh but had been looking forward to trying it. We went with out of town guests. The decorations and atmosphere were lovely but we were surprised how crowded it was.
Once seated the first thing we were told was they were out of lobster. So any dish containing lobster was not available. My husband, who isn’t a big lobster lover anyway, was happy to order the scallops without the lobster. I would have ordered the scallops myself if there was something to replace the lobster but changed to another dish when I was told there was nothing to replace it. I then ordered a side Caesar salad and was told there was no Caesar dressing. That seemed odd since it is relatedly easy to make. We decided to order Oysters instead and we were told they were out of Oysters.
When the meals came there was lobster in the scallop dish. I was sorry then that I hadn’t ordered it. I had the haddock which was fine but not overly exciting. My husband said the scallops were over salted and so was disappointed with that. My guests didn’t say anything about their meal one way or the other which leaves me guessing.
Now we were fully aware that another restaurant in the area, Hurricane’s, had to close because of burst pipes and Alisson’s also closed that evening due to burst pipes. It was very nice of the restaurant to try to accommodate the Hurricane’s guests who were left without a reservation for dinner. But I can’t help but feel it was at our expense. We had reservations ahead of time but had very limited selections available to us due to them accommodating the larger crowd. It was not the experience we had hoped for.
Rather than post this initially, I sent the review to the restaurant for comments. But after 4 days I do not have any response at all. They don’t seem particularly concerned with my disappointment. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends.
We love this restaurant! The ambiance is amazing...just beautifully decorated, inside and out! Food is fantastic, and staff is seasoned and knows what they are doing. We were recently here for NYE, but we dine here a few times a month, and we always have a great experience.
We had dinner at On The Marsh for New Years Eve with our 3 kids (11, 9, and 7). Although they do not have a kids menu, they were easily able to accommodate most anything the kids could want. The decor was fantastic, the food was delicious and the cocktails were tasty and strong. Highly recommend!
If you happen to go to this restaurant, please make sure you are not seated upstairs. The ambiance of the place is 100% downstairs. Also, do not order wine by the glass - I guess this restaurant is known for their wine, but the Pinot Noir by the glass was terrible.
We were visiting Kennenbunkport and made the reservation before we got there. We enjoyed it so much, we made a second reservation but due to the weather to cancel. The restaurant was decorated so beautifully for Christmas which made it special. It was also recommended by the locals as a great place for food and Mbiance.
