Our meal was outstandingly delicious. Service was just right. Three ladies out on a personal/ business dinner. Perfect meal. Many thanks
Amazing!! Fantastic food and a perfect ambience for an anniversary. Will definitely be coming back
Good food, although the undercooked eggs gave my companion some severe gastric distress. A nearby screaming infant destroyed any chance of having a peaceful meal. The parents did not control the infant, and the management catered to the caterwauling. We could not wait to get out of there, and we will never dine there again. The atmosphere is more like a Chuck E. Cheese or a McDonald's at about 6X the price.
It was our first time there...the food and service was very good. We will be back.
Outstanding meal and service.
First time dining at On The Marsh Bistro
and look forward to a return visit on my next visit to Southern Maine!
We are here on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. My girlfriend had the steak salad and I had the scallops. Both were prepared as requested and were very good. The only negative was that the bar was somewhat limited. They were unable to make a negroni as they didn't have Campari.
I was away for a girls’ weekend with my mother and sister. We are familiar with the area as we have spent many summer vacations there. I always admired On The Marsh when we would drive by heading to Kennebunkport Center. We couldn’t believe how amazing this gem of a restaurant was. From the ambiance, to the healthy portion of wine poured by the glass to our wonderful server Jessica. There wasn’t one thing that we didn’t like! Also, the owner’s decorative touches everywhere made our experience that much more enjoyable. The winter wonderland at the entryway was out of this world :)
On The Marsh was an unexpected and amazing find!
The food was fabulous. Fun ambience but service was terrible; felt like we were inconveniencing the waitress. It seemed they were understaffed which is understandable; all it would have taken was a word to that effect and a more welcoming attitude. We would give it another shot because everything else was great and hopefully it was an exceptionally low staffed night.
Delicious food, lovely ambiance, nice live piano. We look forward to going again and be able to see the outside view in summer.
All good. Food was excellent service good. It is a be-backer.
Love the food, atmosphere and service. Once again, we had a wonderful dining experience. We look forward to our next visit.
Or server was fabulous!!
I am not an easy person to be pleased when it comes to food! The food was greaT BUT Our server was fabulous.. I would have JUST enjoyed my lobster Pasta more if you used fresh organic tomatoes instead of chunk. otherwise everything was great.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the bar afterwards. Steve was very responsive to our needs all night. We will be back again soon. This is our favorite spot in the area!
All things positive except they have chosen not to honor American Express. Luckily we had the cash this time, but next time will consider competing local places that take the card I want to use.
I thought the atmosphere was fun and inviting and the staff were welcoming and friendly . There was a long wait for the food which was very good but overpriced. My husband and I had sandwiches, one cocktail each and split a dessert .. the bill came to $75. The desert was disappointing.. it was a baked apple in a pastry puff.. the apple was hard and there was very little caramel provided- maybe a little caramel side and a thouroughly cooked apple would have made this dessert outstanding and worth the price! The restrooms were fabulous- I love personal hand towels ! I think with a little tweaking regarding food presentation it would be an outstanding restaurant and I wouldn’t mind the prices!
You must try the lobster stew! We were very pleased with our server, Jessica, who was both attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.
This restaurant is and always has been excellent. The staff and service are impeccable. That said... There has been a change of management and the things that made this place truly special have suffered. The small bites menu is gone. The extra touches are gone. Prices, however, have remained. I will still recommend this spot, but it no longer as special as it once was.
Their winter special ($12 for a main dish and two sides) is a bargain. But the food is worth about $12. The salad side is good, but the meal itself was a big nothing. The place is pretty, but I wonder if you turn on the lights, will the place look clean? The rug going into the dining room was in need of vacuuming. The service is pleasant, but inexperienced. The walkway is icy. If I had to pay their regular prices, I would have been quite unhappy. This place is not for me.
One of the finest places we've been to in quite some time. This place is a gem....the staff and food were outstanding. Our only regret is that it's located too far from our home....but we will return!
Our waitress, Jessica, was so sweet, reliable, and pleasant. The hostess AnnMarie, had great suggestions and was very kind. The food was incredible and the martinis were perfect. We cannot wait to visit again!
We had the most delicious meal! Scallops over lobster risotto! Our waitress Jess was the BEST! She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and got everything we wanted out of the evening. We enjoyed the romantic and quiet atmosphere as well as the bar and piano music! We will absolutely be back for more!
Thank you so much!
Exceptional as usual . Food and service were amazing
I am delighted to offer a new review with positive feedback. Excellent meal. Moral of the story, don't give up after a couple of bad experiences! Great place.
Outstanding food and top notch service.
We went on a beautiful winter night. The outside looked amazing with all the white fluffy snow.
The service was excellent. The prices are high but the food was tasty. Inside is a bit dated needs updating.
Took advantage of early dinner special menu offered 4-6 pm Monday- Thursday in the winter months. Comfort food such as spaghetti and meatballs, stuffed haddock, chicken pot pie, meatloaf with a choice of side only $12. Wines for $5. Great deal for local dinners. Our Bookclub was very pleased. Beautiful dinning space and charming service.
Great dining experience! We had a wonderful lunch and the lobster stew was perfect! It was wonderful that the restaurant is open for lunch as well as dinner!
Awesome food great ambiance great overall experience will return thank you
We enjoyed the “Comfort” menu. This happens from Monday through Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM. The entrees were around $12 and there was a good selection of wine for $5 per glass. This really contrasts with the normal pricing at this restaurant, where entrees are at least $25 and wine by the glass at least $10. The size of the portions was moderate rather than too large. So we enjoyed the meal and came away with a good value. This probably doesn’t happen in season, but for year-round Mainers, it is a good deal.
We will definitely return while this deal is on.
The only bad thing was the acoustics of the restaurant. The wooden ceiling magnified the conversations at other tables, making it a bit loud.
The food is excellent. View is fantastic. Comfortable, peaceful, relaxing, very well furnished, as well as interesting.
We'll be back whenever we're in Maine. Well worth the drive.
We have dined at On the Marsh frequently over the past several years and have come to expect the excellence I think you pride yourself on, but we were very disappointed last night. We were looking forward to our New Year’s Eve dinner and made reservations weeks in advance. We had a 9:15 reservation and were seated after a reasonable wait, for such a busy evening, at 9:30. But we were then greeted with an extensive list of what was no longer available on the menu, including everything lobster....how can this happen when you have a definitive number of reservations? Needless to say, everything we were looking forward to having wasn’t to be had. It was explained to us you graciously accepted Hurricanes reservations... but maybe you should of made sure you had enough food for your loyal patrons who chose your establishment over theirs! Our New Years Eve experience was a disappointment.
We had a 9 PM reservation for New Year’s Eve. We hadn’t yet been to On the Marsh but had been looking forward to trying it. We went with out of town guests. The decorations and atmosphere were lovely but we were surprised how crowded it was.
Once seated the first thing we were told was they were out of lobster. So any dish containing lobster was not available. My husband, who isn’t a big lobster lover anyway, was happy to order the scallops without the lobster. I would have ordered the scallops myself if there was something to replace the lobster but changed to another dish when I was told there was nothing to replace it. I then ordered a side Caesar salad and was told there was no Caesar dressing. That seemed odd since it is relatedly easy to make. We decided to order Oysters instead and we were told they were out of Oysters.
When the meals came there was lobster in the scallop dish. I was sorry then that I hadn’t ordered it. I had the haddock which was fine but not overly exciting. My husband said the scallops were over salted and so was disappointed with that. My guests didn’t say anything about their meal one way or the other which leaves me guessing.
Now we were fully aware that another restaurant in the area, Hurricane’s, had to close because of burst pipes and Alisson’s also closed that evening due to burst pipes. It was very nice of the restaurant to try to accommodate the Hurricane’s guests who were left without a reservation for dinner. But I can’t help but feel it was at our expense. We had reservations ahead of time but had very limited selections available to us due to them accommodating the larger crowd. It was not the experience we had hoped for.
Rather than post this initially, I sent the review to the restaurant for comments. But after 4 days I do not have any response at all. They don’t seem particularly concerned with my disappointment. I would not recommend this restaurant to friends.
We enjoyed a great meal. The Lobster Roma was delicious. Our waitress Shannon was so friendly.
We love this restaurant! The ambiance is amazing...just beautifully decorated, inside and out! Food is fantastic, and staff is seasoned and knows what they are doing. We were recently here for NYE, but we dine here a few times a month, and we always have a great experience.
The food is consistently delicious and well prepared. The wine list and bar specials are good, and the live piano music is a treat!
We had dinner at On The Marsh for New Years Eve with our 3 kids (11, 9, and 7). Although they do not have a kids menu, they were easily able to accommodate most anything the kids could want. The decor was fantastic, the food was delicious and the cocktails were tasty and strong. Highly recommend!
Great dinner in an amazing settting. The decor is beautiful and the food is very good. It was decorated for Christmas which made it even more cozy.
High expectations but disappointing. Salad was all vinegar — barely Edible. Everything was under seasoned. The dessert was terrible. Warm almond cake was cold in a hot pan — too Bad because it was highly recommended by the locals.
If you happen to go to this restaurant, please make sure you are not seated upstairs. The ambiance of the place is 100% downstairs. Also, do not order wine by the glass - I guess this restaurant is known for their wine, but the Pinot Noir by the glass was terrible.
Excellent wait staff, very good food, nice atmosphere, little pricey but not disappointed.
