We had a very disappointing experience. Two people in our party had a chicken dish and were sick all night. Another ordered haddock which was very salty, not fresh and could not eat it. I ordered a lobster stew appetizer and got lobster bisque. The service was slow, the waitress was inattentive and did not deserve the 20% gratuity which was added to our bill. The prices were way out of line considering the quality of the food. We will not be going back and would definitely not recommend it.
Great food with live music in the corner. Slightly older crowd
This was one of the best nights we have ever had. We were on a weekend get-away and found this on Open Table. Outstanding Lobster Risotto special, Scallops on a Cobb Salad cooked perfectly, great wine choices, after dinner drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. Top this with perfect service and our night was perfect.
Great food and service. Server and kitchen took care of all adjustments we wanted to make to our meals for dietary reasons. Left full and happy! It was our first anniversary and we will be back just for dinner ASAP
Service was the worst I've been experienced in any Maine restaurant. Will not be back
My wife & I are so happy we finally came to on the Marsh, we have be missing out on great food and, service plus its not loud so you can talk. Been there 2 times and, both absoloutly wonderful. When we are in the area this will be a dinner stop. 10 rating
We dine here every time we visit Kennebunkport and are never disappointed. The food is always great and the service is top notch. Definitely a place to celebrate special occasions.
I've been to this restaurant once before and it was an entirely different experience. The food was fresh tasting, the service excellent and at least somewhat creative. THIS TIME though the reservation was made well in advance, our party was dumped into a blind corner upstairs and our service was a bit of an after thought.
The food itself was pricey and mediocre at best. The fish tasted like it had been thawed from a long freeze and the alleged house chocolate layer cake came out of a Sara Lee box from the local grocery. Not to disparage Sara Lee.
Possibly this is a hit or miss place. The menu pricing is high enough to demand a sense of consistency.
Great time at the bar.
We had been meaning to get here for a long time and finally made it. Totally worth the wait. Very special place- great service, delicious food, lovely setting.
This restaurant was superb in every dimension - the food, the decor, the grounds, the service. I can find NOTHING wrong with it. It was a completely memorable experience. My husband had beef and I had seafood and they were both delicious.
Wow what a wonderful experience!!! The restaurant has so much atmosphere and the decor is so unique. The food was beyond outstanding. I had the seafood pasta, it was so flavorful and full with seafood. My husband had the steak , it just melted in your mouth. Our server Abigail was very nice. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant !!
You can always count on great food, relaxing atmosphere and a welcoming staff. I'm here with friends for winter Happy Hours, and I bring friends and family who visit me at other times of the year. Dependably good!
Good food and lovely setting but very limited menu. Anniversary and brought us two prosecos to start. It was a Saturday and two large tables near us so a bit noisy and servers a bit over stretched but were very nice and comped desert because of wait. I’d suggest going on a week night.
Beautiful setting and lovely ambience together with creative cocktails. Artfully presented, excellent tasting food offerings.
Thank you for a lovely anniversary evening.
Unless you are really into music, request a quieter table. We were seated in a small room off the main dinning room which was perfect. Four people could have a nice relaxed dinner with conversation without having to raise ones voice to be heard. The wait staff was excellent and accommodating. The kitchen was also very accommodating regarding food allergies.
All in All an excellent experience.
Ugh. The restaurant had a funny smell as soon as we walked in the door...like smelly carpets. The decor was over the top and the food was not very good. Extremely high priced for what you get. Our server didn’t seem eager to serve us. She asked if she “should bother to go over the specials with us.” We will not be going back there.
This was our second time here. Our first occasion was good but not great. They made up for it this time. We were meeting friends for lunch and there was no pressure to hurry up. The waitress was great in letting us spend time together and not make us feel rushed. The food was well presented and the mocktails were great.
Managed a party of ten impeccably. Excellent service and excellent food. Menu offerings were limited but well chosen for the season. Entrees might be a little more generous but were fine. Everyone in our party was pleased with their meal. By Maine standards, fine dining at it’s best. Highly recommend.
The food was delicious and the service was great! Been here many times and it just keep getting better
The best restaurant in Kennebunkport for a nice quit lunch. The food is the best, great view of the marsh
We love going in the summertime~ great cocktails and Seafood Roma.
Personalized service makes you feel like a VIP
Lovely ambiance. Everything tasted great -- the tomato soup is delicious! Service was excellent.
The ambience was very nice and the view of the marsh was beautiful. The service was good, but the food was average.
Everything was perfect for our celebration - food, service, ambiance!
Love the interior which is beautifully done. Tables are comfortable and we given a window table with large cushy wing chairs. It was in an alcove and very private but then the music ensemble right next to us started, piano and base, and we couldn’t hear each other and when we asked to move, we were quickly accomodated.
My wife and I chose this place for dinner last minute on our last night of vacation. I’m so glad they were able to get us a reservation. The atmosphere was lively but not loud. We were able to get a corner table with comfortable wingback chairs to enjoy our meal and take in the scene. I had the haddock, while my wife opted for chicken. Both were excellent! The wine, the welcoming walkway, the food, and the service all combined for a great experience!
It was absolutely wonderful! I would highly recommend.
It was an excellent night.
Compared to many other places....it was relatively quiet.....and very enjoyable.
Haddock was terrific.
Strongly recommended it to our kids.
After the beautiful entrance it was all downhill. Having been there before we had great expectations. Our waitress was lovely and gracious. A reasonable wine was out of the question. We shared a wedge salad and it was quite small, but good. Our main courses however were a hugh disappointment. I had haddock and it was very small and tasteless, a bland sauce and the mashed potatoes and vegetable were hard to find. My husband had a fish stew of sorts and again it was quite small compared to other restaurants in the area and a rather unexciting broth. We had a scoop of Grand Marnier ice cream each and it tasted like crushed ice. Need I say more. As I mentioned earlier we had been there before and couldn't believe the difference. We will not be returning.
The food was excellent. The service was excellent. It's a little on the pricey side, but my husband and I thought it was worth it.
Wonderfully prepared and presented dishes! Staff was knowledgeable and friendly.
The atmosphere is comfortable, relaxed yet feels very special.
Overall wonderful experience!
On the Marsh is a lovely restaurant, the ambiance was great, the servers were attentive and friendly but I had a problem finding something to eat. I am allergic to garlic and almost everything on the menu was premade/marinated. The chef was not willing to work with my allergy so I had a choice of only 3 dishes on the menu, and I made a poor choice. My haddock was dry and flavorless and was served without the blanc buerre sauce. If you want beautiful ambiance, go to On the Marsh, but if you're looking for a good culinary experience or a farm-to-table menu, go someplace else.
Best place in town !!
Seafood pasta is amazing !!
From the drinks, to the salads, to the last bite of my main dish was perfect !
Ambiance is amazing from the moment you park, all the way to the moment you are seated, and the second you hop on the road. The outdoors are a top example for other restaurants, the restaurant itself is open, cozy and intimate, all at the same time. Sundown makes you feel like you came into one beautiful restaurant and left another beautiful establishment. This is quite difficult to pull off.
From our experience, we conclude that On the Marsh is not a family friendly restaurant. This is a restaurant directed at couples and small groups of adults expecting an intimate dinner with minimal interruptions.
Service was fair for our table, we spent significant periods of time unassisted. Keep in mind, however, we came in at peak hours on a Summer weekend when Maine gets as active as it can during the year. I suspect non-peak hours service will be much better paced.
Food was good. The Tenderloin was reasonably seasoned and pleasant to the palate. The creamy chicken soup satisfying, with a kick of "not sure what's going on here, but l like it". On the same note, some of the dishes are a bit "Boston-priced". Probably a reflection of the amazing ambiance, and the nomadic clientele coming from Southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic region.
We had an overall good experience. Excellent for a romantic dinner of two, or a small party of non-boisterous adults who wish to drink some good wine, converse and have a nice dinner before retiring back to nearby lodgings and accommodations.
Very enjoyable dinner. Small table near the window overlooking the marsh. Good creative seafood dish. I like a menu with one page of good choices.
Great location, good food and good service. We ate upstairs and it was quiet. Downstairs was a little more vibrant. Would not hesitate to go again.
We went for dinner 2 days after getting married, and had a fantastic experience! Beautiful romantic table, complimentary prosecco and a delicious dinner!
