On Sunset at Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel
Good local place, quieter than many places, hip enough
The wait staff is outstanding, and the food is better than one might expect at a hotel restaurant.
The restaurant is in a temporary location in a tiny (400sf?) location off the lobby and we went on Christmas night so those two factors probably explain a lot. We have had good meals at Luxe before, although we go very infrequently. The server was attentive and a lovely human being but seemed terrified by our very polite questioning and unsure of what gluten free is and is not. But he really really tried. Bonus points for that and he went back to the kitchen at least four times to make sure he was right.
Quality of food - eh. Roast beef, tasty and good quality but no rare available. Veggies came from a bag, i am sure. I felt that they went from Smart and Final to grill to steam table in 3 quick steps. The roast beef probably did a turn on the steam table as well. Desserts looked lackluster - we opted for ice cream. Just not a big city meal.
On the managerial side, i think the alternate location should have been noted on the website as well as the 3- course Christmas menu that was the only menu possibility. At $68 it was over priced (trust me on this). Wine at 22.
We had the pre fixe menu for Christmas . The mushroom risotto is not good & the sea bass is very bland . Akso, the Yule log is not good . Service is very good though.
Very good food and service and they always have the reservations I make
My fish was overcooked. The service was terrible. The lobster rolls were inedible--too buttery.
We told the waiter. There were 3 rolls cut in half. There were 6 of us plus a baby. 1 and a half rolls remained after 3 people took their half. No one finished--only tasted. The waiter said that we ate them--which we did not, they were just on the small plates.
When I told him that my fish tasted fishy (new item on menu Dorade), (I could not eat it, and it was a very small piece), and that it was dry, he said it was because I ordered it different from the menu. The difference: I asked him to put the sauce on the side, and asked for sauteed spinach instead of the tomato stuffed with quinoa. The waiter should have been accommodating. Sauce or no sauce, the fish was overcooked and smothering it in sauce would not have helped. I told the waiter after I took several small tastes. There was no time to order anything else.
The restaurant was freezing, and virtually empty. The food took forever, and we had a baby with us.
All in all, the meals were unenjoyable--and we took out of town guests there as it was convenient to LAX in terms of freeway connection. It was embarrassing! On top of that, the waiter added an automatic tip!!
We will not return!!!
Been to this restaurant twice in the last month
service was SUPERB !! But the food was average at best
Thanksgiving dinner was poor.
The pumpkin pie was the worst ( grainy and mushy ) and the pecan pie had one layer of pecans and then that horrible sugar gel stuff .
Always comfortable inviting guests here. Lovely, quiet room and patio. Only complaint is that special requests were ignored by server. I asked for no potatoes with my omelette and he suggested fruit, which I accepted. Then he brought potatoes and no fruit. Also asked for toast very dark, and instead received bread barely toasted.
I had lunch with a friend & we had delicious salads.
I had a salad with Tiger prawns, romaine instead of spinach, grapefruit & avocado with a yummy lemon
dressing. I can’t wait to go back & have that salad again.
Made a reservation for Sunday Brunch only to arrive and discover that we could only get the buffet for $55 with LOUD music. We, on the other had, were old friends who had driven to LA to meet other friends here and were looking forward to visiting. It was very disappointing. They finally sat us in the Bar which was quieter than the restaurant but not by much. They lowered the price when we assured them we didn't want alcohol but it was far from the ambiance we had envisioned. Of course there was no "service" since we served ourselves. And no al a carte menu was available.
Next time we'll go elsewhere for Sunday Brunch!
Had a lovely lunch for 5 of us with good service and lovely ambiance. The bread and crackers were especially good.
A throw-back to lunching in Los Angeles, with good if not ample servings. Not a great value, but convenient for some. Never seems to be too crowded. Park on Church Lane & save $5 - $10 (inclusive of optional valet gratuity).
Great staff. Eddie is the best with his be of service attitude.
First off I want to say this hotel is Amazing!!! I went for brunch for my birthday. The staff from the parking attendant was so nice and accommodating. My entire party which was a group of 13 people were so impressed and just so happy with how pleasant everyone was. I want to give a special shout out to Maria in parking and our Servers Enrique,Victor and Randy. Juliana was a very nice manager too she was friendly and very accommodating. Most important the manager Eric was so nice to me he called to confirm my reservations and greeted me as I walked in the dining area by first name I thought that was such a personal touch. There wasn't anything they wouldn't do for us. Oh and how could I forget the food was amazing too. This hotel has a very pleasant vibe as soon as you walk in you feel it. I have been twice and it was the same vibe then too. Thank you for making my birthday brunch so special. I will never forget the experience!!
Why do I always forget that this is here? It is a delight in every way. Good food, lovely setting, reasonable price, $5 valet parking. The menu has something for everyone, even my favorite fish, sand dabs with lemon caper sauce. Tasted the grilled chicken Cobb and I will have it next time. The club sandwich looked ultra classic. Maybe I'll have the mussels next time.
We arrived for brunch but there was no maitre d to seat us and no one gave us menus. However, from there on it was a fine experience. The food was delicious and the service very accommodating and helpful. Best of all the room was serene with no noise - very rare and very welcome!
it's so rare to find a restaurant where one can converse with friends in a relaxing, low noise restaurant. This one is superb with wonderful food, great service and the ease of connecting with people. Don't miss it!
This is a regular spot for me for lunches and large meetings. The staff is excellent and the food superb. Also, has a great bar lounge. Great halfway point for Westside and SFV residents to meet up.
I was staying at the Luxe Sunset by myself and wanted a nice dinner so I headed down to the restaurant. I wasn't terribly hungry so I ordered the pea soup and a chopped salad. Honestly, the soup was about the best soup I've ever had...so delicious and there were a few very subtle flavors (mint and lemon maybe??) that made me want to scrape the bowl. The salad was also great...larger than I expected and full of great stuff. The tomatoes were especially sweet. I wish I had another night to try more things there...completely enjoyable experience even without a dinner companion!
NO MORE OLIVE TAPENDADE AND JUST "MEDIOCRE" BREAD?! VERY DISAPPOINTING! ALSO, PARK ON THE STREET, RATHER THAN GETTING DINGED $5 + TIP FOR VALET!
Food very good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Much better than a ‘hotel’ restaurant. Good quality food and creative menus. LARGEST PROBLEM IS PARKING. they charge regardless of your dining there and it has take. As long as 30 minutes to get car. Not acceptable.
Food was very good and was prepared in a healthy way. Service was exceptional. It was great for conversation at the table.
Ambiance and wait staff both wonderful.
Convenience with Valet is also notable.
The food is also very good, but as indicated pricing a bit excessive for what you get. Example is the minimal shrimp you get with the salad and the size of the shrimp. Same with other meals.
What is not notable is the significant charge for valet, even though you dined there and paid the excessive pricing for what is served.
Perhaps that is why the luncheon crowd has seemingly dropped off from what previously observed.
Good food; however, they shouldn't "nickel and dime" the customers by charging ($5) for (valet) parking! The food's already expensive enough!
Fantastic Cobb salad!
This restaurant is always easy to get into and offers a convivial atmosphere in which to hold a conversation without having to "yell" across the table. The food (salads) are plentiful and tasty; although not inexpensive. Why they did-any w/ their complimentary olive tapenade is unknown and quite disappointing. Also, too bad it costs $5 to valet park for two hours. When a tip's given to the valet, then parking's anywhere from $5 - $10 (used to be free)!
Always love to have lunch here...ambiance is fabulous and food delicious!
Love the Luxe On Sunset Restaurant. I got married in this space so we go back every year to celebrate our anniversary. Great food and a wonderful outdoor dining patio tucked away in a great location right at Sunset and the 405.
I set up a meeting lunch with four business associates. The food and service were the key to a successful business event.
Very very slow service. Food was bland.
Something was off kilter throughout our visit at this usually very fine restaurant. Though we arrived at 12 noon for our reservation there was no greeter in sight. Finally, after 10 minutes we got the attention of a waiter. Despite requesting a very quiet table they were going to seat us next to a loud table of 10!!! They never checked the reservation as to our request. It was extremely loud which is unusual for them. Our order took forever. One of us ordered their standard and quite good brie sandwich with cranberry on baguette. When it came it had 3 small cranberries in it only. Nobody was paying attention and their food seemed to have deteriorated. Too bad for a once destination restaurant.
The service was so bad that we ended up even having to pay for parking even though the restaurant validated us for 2 hours. That should have been enough time for lunch for 3 people, but they were so slow and inattentive that we were 30 minutes over on parking. The food was okay, but if the service is so poor, the food wasn't enough to make me want to return.
We enjoyed the delicious food and relatively quiet atmosphere where we could converse without shouting.
It was very pleasant, with excellent service. For a quiet business meal location it's a good find.
This spot remains ideal for business breakfasts. The tables outside have a great atmosphere, but can be a little distracting because of people watching plus noise from the water feature. Inside tables are where Westside power breakfasts happen. The service team respects the need for privacy of conversations, and unlike some places doesn't interrupt every 30 seconds asking if everything is OK.
The ambiance is lively, waiters very accommodating, food good... a very enjoyable spot to meet friends from valley or city .
the service was pretty bad we had to go out to the lobby every time we wanted to order something. rude service.
It is a great place for business meetings. Quiet, nice, relaxing.
Restaurant recently underwent renovations and revamped menu. Menu hasn't really changed that much, but food was quite as good as in past. Cobb salad was less flavorful than in past. Perhaps dressing has changed.
Atmosphere was great and the food was very good. Service was sporadic.
