Delicious Japanese food, pure, in quiet, pleasant, setting. We love the shabu-shabu now in winter but all is good
The worst dinner experience ever, good food but totally unpleasant service, especially the blonde girl.
She never smile, she take wrong order and bill higher prices.
It is very authentic but very expensive and there’s no sushi rolls on menu which was very disappointing. A very limited Japanese sushi menu. Would not recommend. Left hungry.
Absolutely perfect in every way. A dinner here is the closest thing to a vacation in Japan without getting on an airplane. A memorable evening with exceptional food, the ideal atmosphere and impeccable service.
Excellent as always. It has maintained its taste and integrity over the years. I do miss it's old book-styled menus though, as the new laminated ones do not reflect the sophistication of the food.
Unpretentious atmosphere, wonderful food.
The service was disappointing, felt there was quite a lot of attitude towards our table and our dishes came out in 15-20 min intervals with our last two dishes forgotten.
Superb in every way.
Cash or Amex payment only. The food is not at the Peter Lugers level, so I will not go back there due to this poor payment service.
Good rresturant but they accept only American Express . This maybe a real problem if one is not aware of. We had to pay cash, and fortunately we had enough money to do so.
Not at all what it used to be.
I have been going to Omen for many years and have never had a disappointing experience. The service is always great, the food is really creative without being overly fussy. Just good quality food, prepared with skill and style. On this occasion we had the tasting menu and we were just thrilled, although quite full! The staff is very knowledgeable about the sake on the menu and happy to let you taste before committing to a a bottle.
i've been going to omen for ages and it never disappoints. a great place to enjoy the best japanese food in the city in a very casual atmosphere. it's kyoto style. try the sake in the cedar cup. and everything else on the menu.
lovely room, pretty good service, but portions really scant and given the prices actually left unsatisfied, almost hungry, and my companions agreed. Of course, could have ordered more food, but entree portions usually adequate elsewhere (but not here). I should have known, I guess, but.......
This is a classic mainstay of true Japanese dining in NYC.
My favorite New York City restaurant for 30 years - great vegetarian cuisine, chic ambience .
Food and presentation were both excellent. The waitress, although very friendly and helpful, didn’t seem to know the menu very well and due to language barrier, she struggled at times to explain the dishes in English. However, that probably also means the restaurant is authentic so it wasn’t a total dissatisfaction for me.
Love Omen, haven’t been in awhile but hasn’t changed a bit, best sushi!
This is my second time come here.
Everything is good, the service, the food. We understand that this is cash and Amex only.
The only thing makes us uncomfortable is, after spend $400 bucks at Monday night, we would prefer not to be evicted so rashly. We were not finished yet but have be informed that make the table in 10 mins.
Have been going to omen for 30+ years. While the menu has undergone some changes, everything is beautifully presented, delicious, and fresh. Sake list is very good and service is super attentive. End your meal with the namesake Omen noodle soup.
Very good. Pricey, but good.
The service is extremely unbearable
I am shocked for the quality of the service in a Japanese restaurant run by a Japanese. Strongly suggest avoiding visiting this one
Cash or Amex only... bad food
I have been coming to Omen since 1985. It takes me back to my home-stay days in Tokyo... when my Tokyo grandma cooked dinner. Authentic. Inventive. Outstandingly delicious. I can’t get there enough.
This is the best Japanese food I’ve ever had outside of Japan. The udon dashi is flavorful and perfectly balanced. This was my 4th time at Omen in NY (have also been to the Kyoto location). Each time was spectacular.
the best Japanese restaurant in the Americas. It’s a work of art, unique, worth every penny and thought.
Consistently excellent dining experience. Only cash and AmEx accepted.
I've been going to Omen since the 80s, and love it as much as I did then. The food is very good (though I confess I have the black cod nearly every time), and the service is exactly as impeccable as one would expect of a genuine Japanese restaurant. I've been to all three Omens in Kyoto (same family, cousins), and love them as well. Eating at Omen New York is as close as I've come to feeling as though I'm still in Japan.
This is a good but not great Japanese restaurant specializing in the cuisine of Osaka. The prices are high for the quality of the dishes. in favor, this is a very quiet restaurant and seems to be a neighborhood favorite.
Best Sashimi ever, in a calm, welcoming environment.
Been to the restaurant a number of times, mostly taking their tasting menu. Have not been disappointed. Uses fresh, seasonal ingredients.
This restaurant has terrible service. I sat down and ordered iced green tea which initially came with ice cubes yet when the green tea ran low and I asked for a refill I got lukewarm tea. I asked two separate times for ice. The waitress said the restaurant had no ice even though the ice water had ice...I also had to ask for ice water which was challenging to obtain.
I ordered the sushi which was extremely expensive ($36.50 for a small amount of sashimi). The quality of the fish was average at best (certainly nowhere near the best). The waitress also did not provide me with a bottle of soy sauce but rather a tiny saucer of soy sauce. Most tables had soy sauce bottles to refill their saucers. Finally, the waitress could tell that I was not enjoying the meal so she gossiped blatantly and relentlessly in Japanese with other waitresses. I knew they were gossiping because they would talk and then look directly at me. Very rude. In general, the wait staff here seem to have an "attitude."
You could walk out spending $70 or more for average food and insulting service. Beware!
Great restaurant since decades .. it s always so good , prices are still same since 20 years also .
Fish cut could be better and fresher. Service slow. Ambiance, average.
Aside from ridiculously overpriced mediocre sake, everything else is as has been for decades, quite good. A great neighborhood restaurant for some of us, that also works for business meals.
Amex or cash only??? So strange. Good thing the friend I was supposed to treat had an Amex. Probably would not recommend this place for that reason.
We always find the food excellent with pleasant and helpful service
I've loved this place since the 80's. It never disappoints. 6 of us on a Saturday night and we all savored every morsel -- even dessert. The lights seemed brighter than I remember -- I'd prefer if they were a bit more dimmed but I forgot about it almost immediately.
Excellent Japanese food, lively atmosphere with the possibility of quiet conservation at the same time.
