Omar's Ratings and Reviews
We got there at 7pm and were the first guests. We found it amazing considering so many other places within a block or two were completely full with waiting lists or at capacity. We thought there must be something wrong, sat at the bar, and were impressed. Shared appetizers, main, side, bread...had cocktails and red wine. A few tables were seated, a few at the bar, but the crowd started to roll in about 845-9pm, when we were leaving. Leo the bartender was great and ensured a return visit. Next time, we will come a little later when the place has some life.
Just moved into the neighborhood and can't believe my luck! One of the best meals I've ever had in the city which is saying a lot, my boyfriend believes in eating out 4 or more nights a week!
Would talk about my meal but honestly, I went with a small group and each of us was blown away.
Can't wait to return....SOON!
Overall a good experience. The food was good but not great as was the ambiance. The server was good until about midway through the meal and then seemed to have forgotten about us while we watched the drinks that we had ordered 20 minutes earlier languish at the end of the bar in anticipation that someone would pick them up and walk them the 15 paces to our table.
Omar has tried to create a VIP club ambiance where people will want to party, see and be seen. For the most part he has done a decent job-- if he could only get that last bit done, where all people in his place feel comfortable and important, he will have succeeded.
Very sorry that I came to this place. Horrific experience. I don't usually write OpenTable reviews but had to this time.
This restaurant is just flat out inappropriate. Our male server touched me inappropriately. Two guys sitting were on top of one another at the table next to us.
Is Omar's supposed to be a restaurant or a brothel?
This place should go out of business.
The maitre d had us all wait till our party was complete at the bar where there was no place to sit let alone stand. Once we were complete she seated us at an awkward table by the bar citing that members had arrived & they did not have a table for us. If they are an establishment for members them why accept reservations from the general public? Why is this not the first thing we see when we look up the restaurant? Why not just let us wait at that same table until we were complete? I just did not get it... Set the tone for the rest of the evening. Service was hard to come by.
The food was excellent, the ambiance was VERY impressive, they even had an amazing art installation dedicated to LOVE. We were in town for business on Valentine's Day so we were there as a group of 5. The prix fixe menu offered delicious options and the dessert was delicious, however for $95.00 per person, we would have expected to EACH have received our OWN dessert, instead we only received 2 for the entire table of 5. ( that means 3 of us had to share one dessert...) That is the only reason that I am leaving 4 stars instead of 5. We wanted more dessert!!
Omar's was an amazing experience. The dishes were unique and offered different flavors which would be hard to find in another restaurant. The service was impeccable. The ambiance was relaxing yet had a fun atmosphere. I will definitely go back again. It's also perfect for private parties.
Omar's is the perfect date spot. It's dark and intimate. The wine was great. The food was amazing!! The service was sub-par. The waiter kept us waiting and I don't recall him coming to check in after our food was served. Our glasses were left empty for a short while. I asked him to explain the Hen of mushroom for me, as it seemed like a good dish, something I've never had before. He continued to read the menu listing instead of explaining. Although the entree was fantastic, it was not what I expected. We also decided to change our appetizer on his recommendation of the burrata, I specifically said to nix the octopus. Instead we ended up with 2 appetizers, while both were amazing. It a little much. Everyone else was pleasant, but our server left a very bad impression. I'm glad I tried it, but I probably won't go back.
We went for a Friday night dinner reservation booked through opentable - the place was empty. Hostess sat us in the back corner. Appetizer portions are incredibly small and not ideal for $17 a pop. Entrees we're basic and did not include any sides or even a garnish for upwards of $35. I had noted this was a birthday reservation but by the time we finished our subpar meals we no longer wanted dessert. No one mentioned a happy birthday once - not upon arrival, during the meal or on our way out. Fine. By the time we had the check the hostess seated two tables directly next to us on both side (in the back corner) therefore making our experience unnecessarily loud and cramped. As we were leaving the host couldn't even bother to say have a nice evening. Not ideal dining experience. It was empty for a reason - we all ended up getting pizza later that night.
Had a great Friday night dinner here, started with oysters and carpaccio, a nice vodka martini and a good nice buzz around us! Had the steak for main and brocollini and we were both full and happy when we moved in to the even buzzier bar area! Nice night all and all
Great ambiance, but food was all overcooked and waiter was inattentive. Frustrated by the amount of times we had to ask him to come over and handle something. He poured water in our wine and seemed generally out of it. We ordered a burger medium rare and it came well done. The fish was very dry, despite sitting in a bowl with a very delicate broth. The grilled octopus and the shortribs were the only great dishes. The tuna tartar was underwhelming. I so love the atmosphere, so I wanted this to be a great spot. Sadly, it was not.
I never write restaurant reviews, but felt compelled to after a recent night at Omar's. Food was mediocre at best, and the service was terrible. We had to ask for menus, and then again for a wine list, and each 'request' seemed to take 5 minutes. We also had to track somebody down so we could order food. And the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded when we arrived. All of the above would have been fine if the food was great, but it wasn't. Overall, very mediocre dining experience that I won't be repeating.
I was wondering, after a few negative reviews about the value to portions - but really - this place is comparable to other restaurants of the same quality level. There are actually both food & wine choices in a lower price range should you want to keep the costs down a bit (even had a few bottles of wine under $50!) So what is all the complaining about? This is NYC. It is easy enough to look on their website beforehand to see pricing - and if it is over your comfort-zone - well - then don't go. This is not a place to go and stuff yourself, but a special haven to bring your fabulous selves to enjoy the special ambiance that Omar has created... trying to hold on to a wonderful mix of Manhattan fun, with lots of style. Thank you Omar! We Will Absolutely Return.
there are several dining areas at this establishment and since i have been there before i knew of a back room dining area. i put in a request for a romantic setting only 2 hours before and they kindly obliged. It was absolutely one of my top 3 dining experiences here in NY in terms of what i wanted to express to my lady. thx you Omar's for a memorable night
The food at Omar's was great! It was delicious. However, the restaurant's server was awful. The waiter paid us no attention-- there were empty water glasses and wine glasses all night, an entree was forgotten, and was over all slow. We brought the issue up with a supervisor, and our waiter was still terrible. Huge disappointment ,
Unfortunate that the cuisine does not match the set up. My steak was gamy, sent back right away. The "replacement" came too late, after everyone else was done. No desert on the menu but macaroons.
For $120/pp, I have definitively seen better. Again,
the set up is very cool but the kitchen needs to be taken over!
Initially a lovely place we were ushered to a tiny little table (Bistro small comes to mind) and the first bottle of sparkling water was emptied with one pour. The only reasonably priced wine chosen wasn't available and the 2nd best was poured like we looked to be hurried to go somewhere else or catch a train. Soon... we were!
In mid conversation someone officious interrupted rudely: 'Where are you from?!!". We must have looked in disbelief so the person walked away mumbling 'Singapore' clearly being offended by our not wanting to leave our intimate conversation. The wine kept on being poured aggressively and the music level raised to a level that felt unpleasant and actually disinviting. We won't come back.
