Went with my hubby this past Saturday night. We went earlier than our reservation to take advantage of happy hour. This meant a dollar of each drink from 5-7. That was no bargain at all. Most establishments when they have a happy hour there are usually some deals. My husband ordered a bourbon with a side of ginger ale which after the $1 deduction was $13. Food was tasty but portions small for the price. Service was slow. One more thing, if you are going to pour water in our glasses either have ice or make sure it’s cold, especially as we near the summer months.
Went with my wife and another couple and had a splendid time. Portion size was perfect and food was delicious
Delicious food & impeccable service! I went for a catch-up dinner with a friend and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals as well as the atmosphere that left us comfortable to take time chatting. At no point were we rushed, but we also never had to search out someone for a refill or anything else we needed. We started with the burrata & asparagus appetizer (I think it was a special) and it was absolutely delicious. I had the duck breast and my friend had the fish of the day - again, both delicious. And since we couldn't decide on a dessert to split, we tried the dessert sampler plate - I think the chocolate cake and apple tarte were my favorites. The menu was slightly different than what was listed on the Open Table site, so I recommend going to the restaurant site to check out the current menu. I would definitely recommend and go again myself.
It was exactly what we were looking for. A relaxed place with great food and lovely service. Small, intimate space that still accommodated my wife and children well. Perfect for the weeknight outing we had, and would love to go back again.
Olivier’s is one of our neighborhood regular dinner spots. We dined there in a recent Thursday night. We enjoyed our salmon and chicken entrees, our salads and the profiteroles. We had our usual cheerful, attentive service. We’ll be back soon!
Cozy and authentic. Frog legs were amazing!
My wife and I, regular customers, visited recently for a Friday dinner. I had the Haddock special, and my wife had an entree salad. The food and service were excellent as always. The meals and wine are well-priced. Olivier’s is a friendly neighborhood bistro. Thanks team, we’ll be back!
This was a really great restaurant and I would definitely recommend it. The staff were extremely professional and fun too, the service was great and the food was excellent.
i am ambivalent. the room is authentic and lively, the food was ok, but they only take amex credit cards, and my friend's amex (only one of the four of us carries an amex) was rejected inexplicably and then Olivier's ATM rejected 2 of the 3 cards we put in. the staff was not very supportive as this was happening.
Good solid French bistro cooking (e.g., moules frites, steak tartare) and quite fairly priced. However not up to snuff on some parts of the experience. My French 75 cocktail came in a too-big wineglass, the bread was not very good (a big no-no for a French bistro) and the tables are crammed together and hard for guests or servers to navigate.
Delicious, authentic French food.
As usual, Olivier Bistro delivered. This has been our go to place for years and they have never disappointed. Great cocktails, fantastic wine, and delicious food. For apps we had the specials, scallops on risotto and a butternut squash soup. Our mains were the beef bourguignon and the veal stew special and both were fantastic. Our usual desserts, creme brulee and apple tart tartine were great. We will always come back to Olivier.
The place is perfect. One block from the train. The owner and servers were the most helpful and generous. The food was delicious. We had the escargot, bone marrow and fois gras to start I then moved on to the 20oz ribeye. It was perfect! No salt needed, perfect temperature and so tender. For dessert we had creme brulee. it's so nice to have creme brulee made to order and the right way.
Great little French bistro
Service a tad slow
Wonderful place for French food in Brooklyn.
We had an absolutely delicious meal at Olivier! Great pate, cheese and buf bourguignon and flourless chocolate cake with yummy coconut ice cream. Very nice service and good wine. So nice to have French food for a change. We will be back.
Great staff, charming decor, and very tasty food
Good food, reasonable prices
Moderate priced French bistro on border of Park Slope and trendy Gowanus. I had the hanger steak with french fries and pepper corn sauce. Arrived as ordered medium rare, never had a bad preparation here.
The appetizers were excellent, but the main courses were all just "alright".
The fish of the day, which I had, was pretty much tasteless and dry, like something I would make at my house, overcooking and all. The steak-based main course my mother had was "very flavorful" but "full of large chunks of fat". My father had similar complaints about his main course, although I don't recall what it was.
The steak tartare appetizers, oysters, and charcuterie were excellent! Would definitely go there for drinks and snacks only!
Also, decently priced for the kind of restaurant that it is; was expecting it to be more expensive than it was.
Decent whiskey selection, good wine selection.
Great ambiance, food and service. Definitely a great spring and summer hang out!
Classic French bistro dining with a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and an open front - perfect view in spring, summer and autumn dining - and some sublime twists on French classics. The seafood soup special with the lobster broth base? Superbe! Moules frites with the bleu cheese craime fraiche broth? Perfectly nuanced. Plus a super-friendly chef-owner and wait staff. Very charming, low key, and full of ambiance - a no-rush little gem.
delicious food with a genuine Paris Bistro ambience
I wa surprised seeing all the negative comments about the service. Everyone, from the bus boy, bar tender, waitress to possibly the owner, were super friendly and attentive! The moment I walked in, the waitress acknowledged my open table reservation and noted that we are celebrating a birthday. She preordered the desserts so that we didn’t need to whisper later when the birthday girl arrived.
The food was very good and they have daily specials. They told me that their menu is seasonal. We had escargots, foie gras torching, grilled octopus and sea scallops for appetizers. Main dishes were Cote de boeuf, baked whole fish (de-boned), boeuf bourguignon, and magret de canard. Every dish was excellent except boeuf bourguignon, which was a bit salty and dried. We also tried several of their cocktails and the intense ginger was the best! The desserts were great as well. We ordered one each and they brought them out with a candle. Everyone sang the birthday song to the birthday girl, who had a blast! Towards the end, a very tall guy, possibly the owner, came over to make sure everything was all fine and had a great time.
The view of 4th Avenue may be a bit prosaic but everything else is a joy. Authentically prepared French food and excellent cocktails are a dynamite combo. We come every time we're in Brooklyn and will return again soon.
Great dining experience. Three of us ordered Tuesday tasting menu. Onion soup, chèvre salad, hangar steak frites, crème brûlée and tarte tatin all fabulous. Friendly service in good atmosphere. Reasonable drink and wine prices. Will definitely return.
For some reason, French restaurants haven't had staying power in Park Slope. I really hope this one will be the exception! Don't be deterred by its location on 4th Avenue, which anyway is convenient for anyone taking the subway nearby. The decor, ambience, food, service all make this worth a visit.
Charcuterie portions are embarrassingly small. Service was terrible as our waitress kept pushing their most expensive entree and tried to talk us out of taking our leftovers. We wanted to like this place but certainly won’t be back. 0 stars.
it was an excellent french restaurant and we loved the tarte tatin!
we had a lovely yummy meal on Saturday.....great service
We showed up very early for our reservation and were welcomed and seated immediately. The service and food were excellent. I had the mussels, which were cooked perfectly. My daughter had the duck which she said was fabulous. This is a small place with tables close together, so we did hear quite a bit of a neighboring table's conversation.
They also have an ATM in an alcove off the dining space which I thought was unusual until I went to pay with my American Express (the only card they take, I believe) and they had trouble getting the card reader to work. I had to get money out of the ATM to pay. The ATM had a limit of $160 when I used it. We would return for the food, friendly and professional service, and charming ambiance.
Olivier's is always fantastic. They have a great French bistro menu, lovely wine list, and warm atmosphere. It is our favorite date spot as well as go-to for afternoon lunch. The food is always spot on and the staff is wonderful.
Always fantastic experience, delicious food, and very welcoming
the place felt very authentically French, the food was very good, the room is pleasant and we'll be back
Our waitperson was extraordinarily inattentive. Seemed to prefer hanging out at bar, chatting with bartender. The only way we could get service was to send the busperson over to her. On the other hand, he was very attentive. Excellent service. Perhaps they could switch positions. This was an unusual experience at Olivier. We've been there several times, and always have a had a good experience before.
Very expensive but nice
Best French Onion Soup in Brooklyn.
Various kinds of drink options.
Best Hanger Steak I’ve had it a long time!
Great dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Really nice, although it was chilly sitting close to the window.
