Olivette Ratings and Reviews
This may be a hotel restaurant, but it is anything but ordinary and well worth the trip to come here. We happen to live nearby and love eating at Olivette. The restaurant is beautiful, and one of Houston’s finest. They not only have great seafood and steak, but the best vegetarian dish I have ever had anywhere. The service is always extraordinary. The bar is very lively and because it’s at a boutique hotel, there are always interesting people from all over the country to visit with. My wife and I were celebrating our birthdays, and out of all the great restaurants in Houston, this is the place we chose. That says alot. It is a place we love.
Unbeknownst to my husband and me, the Olivette only serves Brunch on Sundays and we were wishing to eat lunch. Our waiter Eduard offered to ask the chef if he could prepare a lunch for us of roast chicken and vegetables and he very kindly did. The food was delicious, hot and served quickly. We really appreciated their willing response to meet our request. Eduard and Jennifer are to be commended. We have eaten there many times and will certainly return in the future.
Having lunch here during the Christmas holidays is magical. The variety of entree salads is excellent and their cracker bread is a must. The only problem was that the place we were sitting was so cold - I think because of the cold coming in from the outside- that it was uncomfortable. Otherwise, perfect.
OK this is a hotel restaurant, happens to be close enough to our home that we can walk there. Hotel restaurants are not always the best, they have a captive audience. But The Houstonian Hotel is boutique and the restaurant is superb. I eat vegetarian when possible, and I had the hominy and bean fricasee - the finest vegetarian dish I have ever eaten. My wife had the delicious wild caught salmon. We shared the large and unique southwest salad. Service was wonderful. We have eaten here many times, loved our dinner, recommend highly. An added plus is the lively bar with hotel guests from all over the world to meet and people watch. If you are just visiting Houston or you live here like us, this is a great place to be.
We had brunch buffet, the food was ok, not many people there, so it was quite. It's lightly on the high price end for what they offer but we had a good time with friends. The real complain we had was misquotes , one of my friends got 5-6 big bites on her knees.
The trout was dry. We went because of the some items that were on the menu and they said they had not had them for four months. The cappuccino machine was broken so that was out.
So if you want mediocre food for a high price and beautiful ambience I recommend it.
Olivette takes incredible care of me and my guests, and I frequently go there for business luncheons. However, for the 2nd time the Gazpacho was TOO SPICY; on a prior occasion I had to send it back and on this occasion a guest took one spoonful and sent it back--embarrassing. Furthermore, I do not wish to be in the position of telling guests not to eat something at a restaurant to which I invite them. There should be a less spicy option for soup / Gazpacho. Also, despite not being busy, the waiter made an error by giving me the wrong bill. When I returned to the office I had to call to have the correct bill sent as it was a business lunch and I needed the correct receipt. Although accommodating it did not meet the usual Olivette standards.
We always enjoy our visits to Olivette. The food is excellent and the service is superb. And, it is QUIET!
Our table of four could actually converse in a casual way and hear what was being said.
Thanks for another great meal and dining experience.
Sincerely yours, Tom Jaber
