Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, Yonge & Front Ratings and Reviews
Lunch was incredible. Not only was each of our dishes delicious, (we had the roasted mushroom fettuccine and the croque-madame open-faced sandwhich) but they also were delivered very quickly and at a piping hot temperature. Furthermore, the dishes were extremely reasonably priced for how well they were made. The service was pretty good. I did feel as if i was being monitored by the servers so that they could come take my plates as efficiently as possible, however we were 1 of a very few amount of tables in there and they were likely bored and just trying to give good service. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch and for dinner.
I booked this place for a business meal with my colleagues. The service was poor (our waiter just was MIA most of the time) and the items we ordered took a long time to get to the table. Drinks shouldn't take that long, but they did.
The food was also mediocre for the price that we paying. My chicken supreme had nothing supreme about it. Nothing memorable about the food at all.
I won't be coming back and definitely won't be recommending if there are other options in the downtown Toronto. The service was the worse and really is the #1 culprit for the bad experience. You need to hire staff that actually cares and follows up with their customers.
Disappointing experience today. Business lunch for 5 people, one meal didn’t arrive until 10 minutes after others were served. By the time the meal arrived, most others were done. Manager came by and didn’t apologize or take meal off the bill. Extremely disappointing.
We had a disappointing evening. It was a Thursday evening and the place was dead. Our server was chatting with a co-worker and didn’t look after us. And the food was ok. My wife’s veal was tough and the presentation was poor. My cod was good. But, on the whole, I wished we’d stayed at the Irish pub just north.
Honestly I loved the experience. Enjoyed the calamari he most. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 was because when my steak came out it was completely rare almost blue. They cooked it up to med-rare but it wasn't even seasoned enough. So all I tasted was the char marks. Either way we enjoyed the rest of our time and service including the great drink selection of scotch. Thankyou to the whole team.
We have been numerous times and will be back again. Food, service and ambience were all very good. New Year’s Eve: nice to see staff dressed up, party hats and 2018 balloons. Good sign when we arrived: some of staff taking group photo in lobby. Our server: very friendly young lady, did good job inspite of having a number of tables.
Again a great visit. Staff attentive and friendly. Love that staff know when to approach the table! Thanks!! Food is a wee bit wanting-- portion sizes, flavouring ( WAY too much parsley in the otherwise great bouliabase) This is the second time foods been off-- hope it's together by Tuesday the 2nd when we're back for a family birthday otherwise we may have to pass next time!! Service brings us back!!
Been to this location a few times now and has consistently delivered in what you want from a night out. Staff treat you well. Not over the top in a sense you get the feel of over doing it. They know when to approach yet give you space. Food is always fresh, visually pleasing and most important.....delicious!
Definitely worth a try.
Overall good experience. Would have liked to see a larger portion for one of the appetizers. Or possibly two size options available in order to be shared.
Server didn’t seem very interested in being there at first. A little friendlier towards the end. We all have bad days.
Would definitely go back again nonetheless.
Brunch menu but only one serving of Quiche available - not good.
Bread for Club sandwich - boring white and soggy.
Waitress dropped mimosas on table
Made reservation 2 wks in advance and we were sat right in front of servers station - not in window. I know next time to ask specifically.
A little disappointed this time.
This was my second time here in the past year. The first time the ambiance,noise-level ,service and food were very good indeed.
Not so this time.
There was a distinct feeling that we were being rushed. (my bread plate was cleared away before finishing) My meal, the Tuesday Special (Lamb Kabab was not very nice, the lamb was very tough )
The large table behind me was extremely loud and rowdy - unusual,I though for a restaurant of this caliber. So loud that the gentleman sitting to my right went over and spoke with the person who was shouting and making most of the noise, saying "that some couples like to enjoy a quiet dinner prior to taking in the show at the Sony Centre"
A very disappointing experience, especially after our last visit, which was quite delightful.
I wouldn't return to this restaurant. The food was what I would call mediorce and it is way over priced. I paid $40 for a steak frites that was burnt on the outside and underdone on the inside. It was sloppily thrown on top of a pile of plain french fries (which I assume were from frozen, not made fresh). I have had this meal at a number of other restaurants, so I was expecting something more in terms of presentation and flavour. To say the least, it was a complete let down.
As expected, O&B overall did not disappoint. Ambiance, service and food were good. Had a hiccup with one entrée that was overcooked but this was remedied straight away and even discounted from the bill (something I had not expected or desired). Our Server was exceptional and the $20 discount on bottled wine was a nice surprise. The beer selection disappointed one guest as no wheat beers were offered and the portion of the rib dinner served for $28 was pretty skimpy (3 small ribs which was marketed by the Server as a "full rack" - I think he misspoke). I will definitely come back and recommend this restaurant to anyone. Summer patio is especially nice for pre or post theatre food & drinks.
I'm sorry to say but this will most likely be my last trip to Oliver and Bonacini. This used to be an restaurant that was a pleasent place to come to with friends that had different fare than the chain restaurant that are riff around Toronto. The menu choices were good, the meals were cooked well, and I always left feeling I had treated myself to a restaurant that was a cut above what is offered along Yonge street. What I've seen in the last few years is a total downgrade in the product that is being offered at the restaurant. The much touted Yukon Gold fries became soft and saggy like well worn and tired showlaces. The meat over cooked and dry. Salads drowning in lacklustre dressing. Hamburger buns that fall apart after one bite. The servers are fine. A few lessons in engaging the customers a bit more would be helpful but the problem is not the service. The problem is that the cost cutting of the food product is showing and it's making a formerly great neighbourhood restaurant look like a fading old couch that isn't as inviting with it's springs poking you in the back.
This is the second time we went to Oliver and Bonacini on 2 separate trips to Toronto and both times we were super impressed with everyone that works here. All the staff are professional and friendly and have gone out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. Whoever does the hiring for you is doing a great job, oh and the food is fantastic!
food was very good. We were early and they accepted us right away which was great. Service could have been better - did not come back for wine order and brought us our food. Dessert ordered and did not ask if we wanted coffee, after dinner drink etc. Seemed to be rushed a bit as bill just dropped
We came here for my birthday and it was just lovely. My mum (a Brit) had fish & chips and loved it, my sis had the Butter Chicken and loved it and I had the chicken and mushroom penne and yes, I loved it! Crab dip - amazing! And to top it off - vanilla creme brûlée - my fave! Would highly recommend O&B!
