Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, Yonge & Front Ratings and Reviews
Great, reliable standby in very central location at Front / Yonge. Conservative decor and menu make it a good please-all choice for larger groups. My only negative is that the menu has been basically the same for years. A more robust seasonal / rotating menu would make it a more interesting choice for regular visits.
The service was absolutely outstanding! We were at a cold table with a draft and they moved us instantly. One of our friends ordered a meal and it was very spicy and they recooked another one for her! They went out of their way to make sure we were happy with the food and the service and we were!
Disappointing experience at O&B at Yonge & Front St. Our server struggled all night. She messed up 3 different drink orders and brought one of our dinner guests the wrong entree. Nothing was offered in terms of apology except the servers comment of “ugggghhhh... there’s always one table!” Which suggests she regularly struggles with the size of her section of tables when it’s busy. My dinner was average at best. I had the rigatoni which was barely warm and the noodles were over cooked. My wife had the butter chicken which was “ok” but lacked flavour, our guests had the steak frites which seemed to be very good and our other guest ended up with the crab cakes (not what he ordered) but he suggested it was decent. We went to O&B more for the location as we were seeing a show at Sony Centre, but I wouldn’t race back unless it was out of convenience.
Service was excellent from the front of house staff - Host, server, food runners etc.
We were rushed for time as we had a show to see across the street. The server made a note of it to the kitchen and food came out really fast and it was fresh and delicious .
Our server (Tom) was great--friendly and on top of his game. One of the female food servers needs to learn how to serve food--not with your arm across the diners face, reaching over. I had the salmon--very skimpy on the sauteed root vegetables underneath my salmon--four or five slices of radish, zucchini (I think!) My friends food--pasta, butter chicken, was fantastic. The pizza (we had it as an appetizer) is nothing to write home about!! In all, we'll be back to give it another try, or try another location. Most of the food we saw go by looked great and the drinks were good.
Great night out, this restaurant doesn't disappoint. Great location, good food, nice atmosphere. Our food arrived a little quick, didn't get time to eat our appetizer before the main meal arrived, so the service could have been a little more organized. But overall a great place to go out for a meal.
Food was great. Service was horrible. Felt rushed. Kept pouring our sparking water glass after glass just so we could spend $9.00 of sparkling water. After our meal they asked if we wanted desert, I said no thank you. They came over with the bill which I did not ask for as my husband and I were enjoying the rest of our anniversary evening/$3.00 sparkling water. Would not dine here again. Hoping the other locations are better.
I have been to this restaurant many times before and have always loved the food. I don't know what happened, but my turkey club was disgusting. It's never looked like that before. The turkey was really gross and the sandwich bread and toppings were mushy and soggy. Really disappointed.
Staff were run off their feet. Service was slow. We knew that going in from previous online reviews and we felt the server understood the restaurant was struggling to overcome this reputation. At the end he offered us a free dessert because both drinks and main course were slow to arrive. We could not take advantage of this nice offer because the dinner came so late we were already running late for the theatre.
I have been to O&B many times but this was the worst food experience. The apps were fine but 3 of our party of 6 ordered the Sunday roast which was not a great experience for any of us. The brussel sprouts were burnt and inedible (like black and barely recognizable). There was no jus or gravy on the Yorkshire pudding and the roast was a thick slice of meat (looked more like a steak) and not what any of us was expecting. The others ordered salmon and were left hungry as it was served with very few vegetables which were raw or very under cooked. It will be a long while before I go back...
Went for dinner before the Pink Floyd concert at the ACC with a reservation at 600 pm , ordered at 620 and did not get our food until 715 pm. I was forced to eat quickly as the show started at 8 pm and wanted to be there atleast 10 - 15 min before the event. The service was inconsistent and the food was eatable but not what I expected from this restaurant. The selection of foods to order seemed scant as well ( very limited ).
I expected a lot from Oliver and Bonacini and I got very little.
Just my opinion and thoughts.
Just really disorganized. The food was good enough and the staff were mostly friendly (although stressed / rushed), but nowhere near what you'd expect for the price. I'd go back for a regular meal (this was Thanksgiving dinner) because O&B are typically reliable, but might not risk it for a special occasion again.
Very impressed with the food and presentation, the service was quite good other than the hostess.
What bothered us was when we were seated we noticed many open booths and window seats available. I asked the hostess at the front if the restaurant if it would be possible to move. She informed me the seats were being saved for larger groups. Through the course of the evening we couldn't help noticing that the booths and window seats remained virtually unoccupied.
If it wasn't for the seating issue, we would have rated the overall experience and service higher. Regardless, still a very fine restaurant.
My friend and I went to Oliver & Bonacini's for the thanksgiving dinner. We ordered a drink and our meal at the same time. The food arrived within 2 mins, the bread arrived mid way through the meal and the food was not hot it was room temperature. The food itself was absolutely delicious, however, ruined slightly by the fact it was not at the correct temperature. Overall I love this restaurant, however, was disappointed as it seemed liked it was an assembly line approach to serving the thanksgiving dinner which was also highlighted by the temperature of the food. The price for the dinner itself was $30 CAD, I would have expected more for this price. The servers themselves were fast and efficient. However, I think the approach was too organized and efficient which impacted the experience, it went from good service to functional service.
Along with out-of-town family, we met to enjoy a meal together and to celebrate a special event. O&B went above and beyond to seat us in a large booth that perfectly fit everyone for good conversation, that was also central to the activity of the restaurant (not out of the way). They also provided the BEST CARROT CAKE EVER as part of our celebration. The server was very - but not overly - attentive, and allowed us to enjoy after-dinner drinks for quite some time at the table. Including himself in our family photos WAS a tad odd, and we laughed it off. I would highly recommend O&B and look forward to returning!
I decided to treat myself to a thanksgiving dinner. I arrived at the opening of dinner service when the restaurant was empty. The meal presentation was fantastic but I wondered why my dinner was lukewarm when I was the first to arrive. It was delicious--I couldn't have made it myself but the mashed potatoes weren't fully mashed and some of the brussel sprouts were a little burnt. The food on the plate was the perfect portion for a thanksgiving meal and the pumpkin cheesecake dessert was a wonderfully delicious ending. I would come here again and I would hope my meal would come closer to perfection.
