Oliver & Bonacini Cafe Grill, Bayview Village Ratings and Reviews
Took my mother for her 84th birthday. Mostly because it's in a convenient location for her, but also because the food is decent and at a fair price. The noise level is, unfortunately, quite high 0 making conversations sometimes difficult. The service is excellent though - we've always had great service there. They were kind enough to surprise my mother with a beautifully decorated plate with a birthday cupcake. That was much appreciated!
We made a reservation for my mothers birthday on a Saturday evening. We hadn’t been back to this restaurant in years but decided to try it out again. The service was exceptional... from the hostess who took the reservation, to the server who was very pleasant and attentive to the manager who sat us at our table personally, wished my mother a happy birthday and followed up with us to make sure we had a good dining experience. Even the happy birthday and candle on the dessert was a nice touch. The food was quite good... but the best offering was the creme brûlée! 10/10!! Thank you to all the O&B staff that helped make my mothers birthday dinner an enjoyable one! We will definitely be back again!
I visited O.& B. On Thursday during the school break. I took my daughter and grandchildren for lunch as I had enjoyed a meal that I had a couple of months ago. The mushroom soup is supberb but mine was not served hot this time. I did return it for a hotter bowl. My daughter’s bowl had a hairline crack in it. We told the server but she didn’t appear to care. Three of us had a club house sandwich, which lacked a sufficient amount of bacon. We did open the sandwich to see if it was there. it did lack flavour. My daughter had some plastic wrap on her cheese slice which was also reported, with the same reaction. Service for both the appetizers and the sandwiches was extremely slow. We were given some free dessert to compensate for our long wait. The phylo cheese cake was delicious.
Always a great time at O and B. Although we had a reservation we still had a 20 minute wait for a table, which was the only issue.
However food was great, our server was very good and they didn’t rush us out after finishing our meal. It’s definiteky conducive to lingering, relaxing and catching up with friends!
Enjoyed our time! It’s our go to place at Bayview Village!
Inconsistent food quality .
My sister had the
signature dish-shrimp spaghetti which I highly recommended as my previous experience with the dish was good. Unfortunately we were very very disappointed as the dish my sister had insufficient saucing and not hot enough.
Issue with the Restaurant = unable to deliver consistent good quality food. I had excellent as well as disappointing experiences .
Luckily severs generally very nice which compensate for the “ only acceptable “ quality of food
Dinner with families last December 31. We really enjoyed the ambiance as well as the service. On top of that is the fantastic dessert. I hope that they will make this as regular dessert all the time. Portion of food is just right as well as the presentation. This restaurant is kids friendly. The staff made the day for my granddaughter who was mesmerized by the balloons. She loved it so much that she wanted the balloons to stay near her crib.
Been here several times over the years and every time the food is ok but the service is never good. Usually don’t want to go back but then I do to give it another chance and it’s the same experience. This time the waiter was extremely annoying ... loud and intrusive in our conversation, trying to push us to order extra things. Kind of ruined the whole meal for us.
Service and atmosphere was fine. Food was extremely disappointing. The soup tasted like bad baby food, pasta was not cooked properly and the custard of the creme brûlée was more of a pudding. $150 meal for two adults and 1 child with no alcohol is excessive. Plus the meal was not even worth $60. I expected above average cuisine but this was my worst meal in quite some time.
Very disappointing visit. We specified that it was a birthday celebration when we booked online and repeated it to the (very indifferent and rude) hostess and surprise, surprise ... no candle on the molten chocolate cake we ordered for dessert. I mentioned the oversight to our waiter after we were presented with the bill and he improvised a candle stuck on a raspberry surrounded by four mini biscotti that are usually served with the coffee. Is this the best that this restaurant can do? The food was bland and unseasoned, the salad had barely any dressing and the chicken Milanese was hard as a rock (over fried). The only redeeming element was the plate of lamb gnocchi which were as delicious as usual. Time to remove this restaurant from our list. It was definitely NOT a good choice for a special celebration.
We enjoyed the grilled calamari with some salad on the side. But I miss the simple grilled calamari in a previous menu, which had more herbs and more tasty.
Mushroom soup is now puree style, different than before, but still good. Server brought that hot, which was important, and nice.
Yellowfin tuna has kept high standard.
this was my second lunch at the restaurant this season.....this outing was not the best experience.....ordered the daily soup, not up to snuff and the avocado toast was covered in salty dried onions and bacon - I had asked for no bacon as I am a vegetarian - not worth 16$
Our server Maxine was excellent. She was very helpful in helping us select our meals, was highly attentive without being intrusive and was very charming as well.
Kudos to her and her service partners.
We will come back and also recommend this location to our friends.
The atmosphere and service was great but the food was just ok. Not much a selection/variety. I had the Mac and cheese which was a bit salty and wasn't worth what you are paying for. We also had the Funghi pizza and that wasn't good, more cheese than toppings and the bread/crust was too hard to chew. 👎
Small portions and food just OK, very expensive for what you're getting. Bouillabaisse (French specialty from Marseille) was very underwhelming, with only 1 little chunk of fish and likely frozen seafood, which is absolutely disappointing considering it was selling for $32. Only saving Grace was the friendly staff.
