Olivadi Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed the entire experience except the seating in the front corner which exposed us to the draft every time he door opened. Had to get my coat out of the cloakroom for a 'blankie'. All around me were experiencing the same discomfort. Perhaps a form of screening would help. JaaspardA
Took the family out for New Year's Eve dinner. There were five of us. The food was very good as usual. The service was a little slower than usual, but the servers were vey friendly, and we were not in any hurry. Also, we were not rushed as can sometimes happen with an early reservation on a holiday evening. Only negative is that my daughter and I were both cold. We were in a little room off the bar, against an outside wall. By the time we realized how cold it was we were well into our meals, or we would have asked to move. My daughter spent half the meal with her coat on. I would definitely ask not to be seated there in the future. I am sure we will be back.
Fabulous Friday night dinner for three with a good friend. We sat in the main dining room and Lucas our waiter took very good care of us. We had the Bolognese, eggplant involtini and veal parmesan.
The atmosphere is beautifully lit, tables are elegantly dressed and we always receive a warm and inviting welcome. We love this place!
One of the meals was not hot. They took it back to the kitchen and put it in the oven. It was scallops. Scallops can be easily overcooked and these were. They were horrible. The manager did remove the meal from our bill but offered nothing else. Very disappointing! The waitress paid no attention to the table at all.
We have dined at Olivadi and have never been dissatisfied until this past visit on 12/27/2017. There were 4 of us - we had a reservation and were seated promptly. The waitress came for our drink orders, however, it took quite some time for her to bring 2 cocktails. She apologized, that the bar was busy. Ok, no worries. After a bit, we ordered appetizers and our meals as well as glasses of wine for the other 2 people in our party. Meanwhile, the restaurant was filling up w/diners - always a good sign in my view. We waited 15 - 20 minutes and noticed that diners that had come in after us were being served before us. We remained patient. The appetizers were deliciious - calamari and an eggplant dish. Two dinners finally arrived - both pasta dishes. My husband's veal osso bucco arrived and then my swordfish. My dinner was cold. I couldn't find our waitress but the hostess came by and I asked her what the problem was - that our service had been less than satisfactory and that my meal was cold. She apologized and informed us that 3 people had called in sick so that they were short staffed. She took my plate and let us know that she was sorry and wanted to be sure that we were happy. My dinner finally made it back to the table - everyone in my party was just about done w/their meals. The food was good but I will be honest, I had lost my appetite. The hostess came back to the table and told us that they were giving us a dessert platter to make up for the cold meal and delayed service. I am happy that they made the effort to make amends, however, if they had let us know up front that they were short staffed, I would have been less aggravated. Watching others get served more quickly was annoying and if we had known about the staffing issue, we would have understood. We will go back to Olivadi but not any time soon. So sorry for a negative review.
Awful experience. I really want to like this place and I have been many times (my own fault), but I have given Olivadi's it's last chance to win me over! If you are looking for a nice atmosphere with bad service, consistently cold food and very small portions with a very high price tag then this is the place for you!!! We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, 90 minutes for our main course and 20 plus minutes for dessert. The bread basket came with 4 pieces of bread and 4 olives for a party of six... don't embarrass yourselves... don't even offer bread and olives if you can't accommodate the whole table!!! The food is mediocre at best, there is a much better Italian restaurant right down the street. The manager did notice that we were getting agitated as we waited for dessert and gave us a tray of mixed desserts on the house. Too little too late for the amount of money spent.
I have been to Olivadi previously but this was an off night. Due to the holiday week between Christmas and New Year's the staffing was not adequate for the number of tables seated. No attempts by management or hostess to help the wait staff out in terms of meal delivery/drinks. Food was fair.
I usually love Olivadi, however, tonight was a disaster top to bottom. Theee of five meals had to be sent back to the kitchen because they were ice cold...and the other two were just warm, and their recipients hungry. The waitress, while very nice, was totally lost. Upon hearing that the food was cold, she offered to leave part of the meal and warm up the rest....plate to plate at the table. Olivadi is priced as a higher end restaurant; totally unacceptable in offer and in practice to transfer food from one plate to another on the table. 3 of 5 meals were inedible; the entire table’s food should have been taken back. The three meals sent back were offered to be remade, which we accepted....they did not remake them, they merely warmed them up, which was apparent as there were the same cut marks in the cuts of meat that we’d originally made. The manager came over and when we expressed our disappointment he barely apologized and then walked away. By the time the, I’m assuming microwaved meals were returned to the table, the two who had opted to eat were finished dining. We were barely acknowledged after receiving the complete meal (which was eaten piecemeal and not together as a group) and had to ask twice for our check. We spent nearly $200 on lukewarm, microwaved meals, and were treated like second class citizens. One of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. And before anyone assumes that I’m merely difficult customer; I’ve worked as a server, I’ve managed restaurants, and I’ve managed a restaurant group in Boston. The kitchen, service, and most of all the management failed this evening at Olivadi. I hope for their sake it was just an off night.
We have dined here on numerous occasions. We have always found the food to be excellent. The staff is exceedingly efficient, friendly, and courteous. We dine out a great deal and Olivadi's has become one of our favorites. If you want to be treated as special, we recommend you try Olivadi's.
We have to Olivadi several and have always enjoyed it. Two people in our party had the chef's tasting menu for $45.00 which included fish and a few shreds of lobster meat and broth. The portions were very small. Not usual for this restaurant. We thought this was not worth the price. Reservations are definitely needed for weekends and holiday season. We will go back because this is a good spot not too far from where we live but we will think twice about the chef's tasting menu.
I had dinner with 4 friends and everyone had different things and really enjoyed their meals. Mine was very tasty but was served luke warm when it should not have been. This is my second time at this restaurant and the first time we found the hostess was unable to recommend if we should sit near the bar or in the main restaurant. We eventually picked the main restaurant which I would recommend. Not sure why the hostess who works there was not capable of doing this. She seemed so perplexed. Also, our server on our second trip did not seem very interested in our table. I would say the food and ambiance is pretty good but so far the service has not been great.
We very much enjoyed yet another evening at Olivadi. The new Jennifer’s Old Fashioned was really good. The mussels were exceptional- fresh, plump and nicely spiced, and the creme brûlée delicious and creamy. Great service.
What an expensive disappointing dinner! I'll start by saying that the best part of the dining experience was our server, Marvin. He was friendly and very efficient. Great guy. Then went downhill from there....to sum it up, minestrone soup tasted like water and so thin, with several beans tossed in..two of us sent that back right away. Mussels fra Diablo appetizer was tasty but anything but " from the devil"! Zero spice factor but mussels fresh. Chicken wing app mostly fried batter and again advertised as spicey with no zip at all. Eggplant rollitini app okay. Beet salad a lot of arugula and a few red beets thrown in. Dressing was good. Main courses were the biggest disappointment for the six of us. All agreed just not worth the money. The sauce on the Marsala was literally black in color!! A color that made dish unappetizing. Flavor just okay and the veal and chicken so thin and rather dry. Never saw that color before on Marsala and I'm a cook. The bolognaise was just okay, bland in flavor and one of us who got that commented the pasta was not aldente but simply undercooked. The very pricey scallops were so small that they should be embarrassed to charge that much for that size scallop. Not your lovely large Sea Scallops as described. Salmon just okay. Bread good. Desert was very grainy tasting gelato like it was freezer burnt and some chocolate desert not memorable. Wine list very nice. Martini very good. Bill very high. End of story! Will not return.
Olivadi is such a hidden gem in Norwood. If you are looking for a special evening out in a great atmosphere, you will be pleasantly suprised. It has an excellent wine list and great menu. They offer seasonal dishes and try and purchase local produce in season to create specials around that produce. If you get there early for dinner it is quiet. As it gets later in the evening it gets a little bit more noisy, but still can have back and forth conversation without an issue. If you are attending a show at Norwood Theater this is a great place to go for dinner and just steps away. On show nights I would recommend making a reservation.
