Olivadi Ratings and Reviews
I had dinner with 4 friends and everyone had different things and really enjoyed their meals. Mine was very tasty but was served luke warm when it should not have been. This is my second time at this restaurant and the first time we found the hostess was unable to recommend if we should sit near the bar or in the main restaurant. We eventually picked the main restaurant which I would recommend. Not sure why the hostess who works there was not capable of doing this. She seemed so perplexed. Also, our server on our second trip did not seem very interested in our table. I would say the food and ambiance is pretty good but so far the service has not been great.
What an expensive disappointing dinner! I'll start by saying that the best part of the dining experience was our server, Marvin. He was friendly and very efficient. Great guy. Then went downhill from there....to sum it up, minestrone soup tasted like water and so thin, with several beans tossed in..two of us sent that back right away. Mussels fra Diablo appetizer was tasty but anything but " from the devil"! Zero spice factor but mussels fresh. Chicken wing app mostly fried batter and again advertised as spicey with no zip at all. Eggplant rollitini app okay. Beet salad a lot of arugula and a few red beets thrown in. Dressing was good. Main courses were the biggest disappointment for the six of us. All agreed just not worth the money. The sauce on the Marsala was literally black in color!! A color that made dish unappetizing. Flavor just okay and the veal and chicken so thin and rather dry. Never saw that color before on Marsala and I'm a cook. The bolognaise was just okay, bland in flavor and one of us who got that commented the pasta was not aldente but simply undercooked. The very pricey scallops were so small that they should be embarrassed to charge that much for that size scallop. Not your lovely large Sea Scallops as described. Salmon just okay. Bread good. Desert was very grainy tasting gelato like it was freezer burnt and some chocolate desert not memorable. Wine list very nice. Martini very good. Bill very high. End of story! Will not return.
Olivadi is such a hidden gem in Norwood. If you are looking for a special evening out in a great atmosphere, you will be pleasantly suprised. It has an excellent wine list and great menu. They offer seasonal dishes and try and purchase local produce in season to create specials around that produce. If you get there early for dinner it is quiet. As it gets later in the evening it gets a little bit more noisy, but still can have back and forth conversation without an issue. If you are attending a show at Norwood Theater this is a great place to go for dinner and just steps away. On show nights I would recommend making a reservation.
I have nothing negative to say about Olivadi. The food was excellent, both the statler chicken and salmon. The wait staff impress with thoughtfulness. For instance, we wanted to take dessert to go, so our waitress suggested she have the chef not heat up the chocolate torte so we could at home and avoid it becoming soggy and whatnot. Even better, each component of the dessert was packed separately to avoid that. Putting it together was easy, and it was like having dessert right at the restaurant. Further, the ambiance is great. You don't even notice the fact that there's no music being played over speakers because the sounds of the restaurant seem to flow together perfectly. You can tell other people are having conversations, but you can't really hear what they're saying unless you try. It just feels right. We will definitely return.
Three of us had dinner at Olivadi on Saturday night. They were incredibly busy and as a result, the service was slow but very friendly. One of the things I like about Olivadi is that the portion sizes are not huge. We all actually finished our entrees despite having shared appetizers. We started with the wings from Sicily and the calamari. The wings were a bit bland but the calamari was perfect. For entrees, my husband had the chicken, my daughter had the gnocchi
and I had the rigatoni alla Norma. Everyone enjoyed their entrees.
The first time my wife and I dined here it was to try it out as a possible place for our wedding reception. We now live over an hour away in Andover Mass yet we return here once or twice a year, especially to celebrate our anniversary.
Aside from the wonderful ambience, great bartender and great service, this is a place where you get the feeling they enjoy surprising you with wonderful new entrees and appetizers. Great deserts too. Olivia did is an ideal place for a great dining experience.
Olivadi is one of my favorite restaurants. Service was attentive, meal was tasty. Just a bit disappointed that the menu changes frequently. Dressing on the beet salad was changed. Side dish of rabe was bitter and too plain served with the filet. Our server Gabriella made sure this special birthday celebration was perfect, complete with a candle on the cannoli!
We have been there previously and had a great experience. This is the reason we returned and were excited to dine there, again. My entree was just OK and the pasta and sauce were cold. The chicken Parm was good but also on the like warm side. Our server was nice but things seemed to get busy and we felt this.
We were there early so it cannot be blamed on it being too busy. I did not send it back because this would have taken too long and then I would be sitting there while my wife ate. It was disappointing when you spend as much as we did.
There was no hostess there when we arrived-when she finally
Showed up , her greeting consisted of a glare until we explained why we were there. Our waitress was lovely, but bus boy who brought out appt waited , standing there for us to clear table so he could put down food !?
And, new Fall menu...ugh, disappointing! Struggled to find what to order .
Can’t see how this can can be sustained .
We attended a concert, and need a great place to eat at close by the concert and hotel. Everything was great location, food , servers and atmosphere. I loved eating there with my date. Reservations great and honored even after I called to say we were running late, by 30 mins. We were in and out without feeling rushed ready for the remaining of the evening. Great food and service. 10 in our book, and we will be back.
Wonderful neighborhood spot. Traditionally terrific service. This last time they were a bit slow. Everyone had received their drink order but one of us and it took 15 minutes for that to come. We were going to the Norwood Theatre so they were much better with food service. Friendly staff and delicious food. Reccomended.
The main course was a stuffed pork chop which was large enough to split and delicious. The accompanying vegetables were fresh and perfectly prepared. A spinach salad however was dry and lifeless. We were patient with our waitress because we knew her from prvious visits and she was busy. The busboy was slow. Ordering our meal got off to a slow start. An unfortunate misunderstanding over which wine we ordered led to our paying twice as much as we wanted for wine. My husband pointed out the bottle he wanted to the waitress as well as specifying it as a 2013 vintage. She presented a 2010 and he pointed out that it was the wrong year. He asked if they had gotten in a better vintage. She didn't really answer that question but said she had dug deep for a bottle that didn't have a torn lable. Actually, it was a different bottle altogether. It was delicious, but when we saw the bill we realized what had happened. We hope that next time communication will be more clear and that staff will be more attentive to what the customer is actually saying. We have enjoyed Olivadi many times and hope to continue to do so.
It has been eight years since we have been back to Olivadi's. This is a good restaurant with good food and decent service. In the interest of full disclosure, however, the prices are a bit on the high side for a mid-level restaurant in Norwood center. Examples: rack of lamb - $38, scallops - $33, pork chop - $32. Again, the food is good (not great) and the ambiance and atmosphere is fine but nothing "special".
We love Olivadi and usually choose it for celebrations like birthdays. For appetizer everyone loved the lamb 'lollypops'. There were 6 of us so we tried 6 different entrees - everyone enjoyed theirs: salmon, pork chops, rack of lamb, scampi, pasta with meat sauce, scallops.
