About Olio Pizzeria
Olio Pizzeria, opened in July 2010, is a causal pizza bar/salumi bar/wine bar/full bar which was inspired by the myriad neighborhood pizzerie and enoteche (wine bars) found around the corner from just about every piazza in Italy. This idea began to take shape before Alberto and Elaine Morello even opened Olio e Limone Ristorante, their fine dining Italian restaurant next door, in 1999. Wine bars serving boutique salumi and formaggi are all the rage in Italy, as is a new regionalism which they are excited to share with you. Sicily is an emerging powerhouse, and touches of Sicilian food and wine delight their guests. You’ll also find exciting tastes from Campania and other emerging regions on their menus, wine and beer lists. My sister and I had brunch at Olio Pizzeria on 12/3/17 and both ordered the DELICIOUS Strapazzate (smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, asparagus and mascarpone toast). We also tried a special yummy holiday cocktail (icy blue topped with egg white froth) and hazelnut panna cotta for dessert. Our server was there when we needed her and was especially friendly.
We had previously enjoyed Olio Pizzaria several times, but in this instance, they disregarded our reservation and seated us at a bar table in the midst of the jostling bar crowd and couldn't even visit our table for 10 minutes of so. The person in charge of seating people was unruly and unapolegetic, basically saying 'get over it; not my fault; email the owner'. Others waiting for a table were also told the same thing even though they had reservations as well. Probably won't be back. Too bad, because they have good food. Simply too crowded and unresponsive to their repeat customers.
We love eating here usually, but owing to a nearby concert and the beginning of the holiday season, the place was jam-packed and the problem of its crowded entry-way was magnified accordingly, with people getting testy and pushy, and hostesses and waiters looking and no doubt feeling strained and overworked. Put on a few extra staff, why don't you! While the food is always good and the prices reasonable by today's standards, the dining experience wasn't quite worth the candle on this occasion--a watery drink, a chopped salad that was also watery and somehow oversimple. Lovely lovely trout and carrots however.
We love this place but hadn't been in awhile. We were not disappointed. We love the warm Italian atmosphere, the great service and the delicious food. My 20 month old granddaughter, who has stopped eating meat and seafood, gobbled up the squid ink calamari right along with her grandfather. My husband and I ordered salads to start, which were fresh and tasty. My daughter ordered a bread appetizer, which she enjoyed. We also ordered two pizzas. I was happy to be able to order one with a gluten free crust. I also ordered a glass of sangiovese wine, which complemented the food perfectly. We look forward to returning.
Olio is losing its edge. We shared appetizers, pizzas. Some of appetizers were very weak - burrata cheese plate, eggplant carpaccio lacked taste. Pizzas were fine. Waiter needed an upgrade on style and delivery.
Hope it gets back on its game. Has always been arrogant with its customers. So given its down turn on performance and food, not a good reason to go back soon.
Made last minute reservations and was glad I did. Place was packed house on a Saturday night and for all the right reasons. The trippa was fantastic and coming from a family of women who can cook it, it was out of this world good. The parma pizza was great and we polished off all but one slice with the help of a few Italian old fashioneds and a tasty apple pie inspired cocktail.
We hardly ever experiment with Italian food prepared outside of the tri state area but this place was an absolute ringer. Would recommend to anyone out there that’s wants tasty authentic dishes.
Excellent pizza with a thin and crisp crust, simple and fresh toppings, good salads and large beer and wine selections. We shared the chopped salad- a favorite and very good, and the con vegetali pizza which had roasted eggplant, bell peppers, zuchinni and cherry tomatoes. I am a vegetarian and liked the pizza very much. Fast and attentive service- tables are close together and can be noisy.
Have eaten here many times since it opened many years ago. We had a very disappointing meal on our last visit.
Carpaccio appetizer was good....everything else was quite mediocre.
We were seated in the back room, which is dark, near the bathroom and has bad acoustics.
Pizza crust was not good....overly chewy. Mozzarella cheese on the pizza was not of good quality.
Won't be going back any time soon.
We've been here often and enjoy it for a casual night out. We enjoyed our meal and the servers were very attentive. Our waitress was especially helpful and friendly. Sadly, the hostess was very off-putting. She hardly gave eye contact when we arrived and checked in ( we had a reservation) and took us to our table with no pleasantries and again no eye contact. Thankfully the experience after we sat was very good. Perhaps this hostess needs further training.
Great mix of classic and contemporary casual-italian just off State St.
A little website confusion over the 'Restaurant' VS the 'Pizza Restaurant'; one more casual than the other - could be clearer, but did not cause much of a hiccup. We opted for the more casual.
Great Old Fashions & wines by the glass.
Enjoyed cabrese salad, bruschetta & meatball apps.
Classic margherita pizza was very good. The special prosciutto & fig pizza was excellent.
Service was very attentive and friendly.
Though we love Olio and were excited to bring my father -in-law for a casual , yet delicious dinner, we were disappointed by the seating arrangement, over 30 people were crammed into a tiny room, I mean we could not get up without bumping into a party of 18 or so , the room was extremely hot and air conditioning was not working properly. Even with reservations well in advance we didn't get nice seats. I addressed it with the server and the hostess , but they said they can not accommodate us. The food was great, but the special occasion was dampened by the seating ,so we didn't even get to dessert and left as soon as the savories were finished.
We love all of Olio restaurants and frequent them when we are in Santa Barbara, were very excited to bring our parents for special occasion, but with terrible ambiance and so so service left disappointed.
