Ole Tapas Lounge & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Overall it was a nice dinner but the overall price was ridiculous for such small plates. I did the Valentine's day special 7 course meal 59 dollars per person drinks not included. The biggest plate was a salad, one course was so small another waiter asked to take the plate because they thought we finished it and we literally didn't touch the plate yet! The main course was a steak the size of ur palm, and two plates were shared the asparagus and the dessert, the asparagus plate had four skinny asparagus ! We had two each , so filling. . .and one scoop of ice cream, one brownie, yet 59 dollars PER PERSON. I think we would at least get our own plate. Also we got sangria menu said 29 dollars and I got charged 32, mind u it was a quarter ice. Overall it was a 180 dollar dinner and they forced a 20 percent tip for idk what. I would not recommend this place for events just regular dining.
This review is based on my experience solely on Valentine’s day. I’ve dined at Ole Tapas many times and had a wonderful experience each and every time. V-day was different, and very disappointing. They need to stick to the usual menu and their specialty - Spanish cuisine.
Ole' Tapas has been in this location for a number of years and there's a reason for that. The selection of tapas and other dishes is varied, the food is timed and presented well at your table and the staff members are friendly and helpful. They also have a nice wine list.
This is becoming our favorite go-to. For starters, none of the parking / seating hassles that apply to Main Street Newark when UD is in session. Service , food and wine are consistently excellent. Entertainment most Saturday nights (flamenco dancing, guitar; and violin). Tapas is great to graze, indulge, share. Terrific South American wines. Always good specials, and a great happy hour. I should reconsider my review - I don't want to give away the area's best-kept secret!
Service was poor. Drinks were expensive and delivered late. We were charged for something we did not order. We ordered paella since it was my father in law’s 94th birthday. It was served once then we had to get up to get ourselves a second helping. One dish showed up at the end of the meal. We asked if we could bring a birthday cake and the restaurant said yes. Then, at the table, they informed us that there would be a $2/ slice cutting charge. When my wife left a 10% tip to reflect the poor overall experience, the waitress ran after her to complain about the size of the tip.
It was a great experience but it was a bit chilly in the back where we were and I specifically asked to be sat away from the doors and bathrooms and we has the option of near the doors or bathrooms. Other than that, it was top notch fabulous! The delicious wine and tapas warmed me right up.
We took our friends from our of state here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! The atmosphere was very pleasant- we had asked for a table in a quiet location and were accommodated quickly; the food was excellent and wonderfully prepared (and hot when it was supposed to be!). Our server was very knowledgeable and pleasant. All-in-all it was a wonderful evening and we would recommend Ole' Tapas any time!
I've reviewed this restaurant several times already, so I'll be brief. This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Newark, DE area. We always share several tapas (small plates); depending on one's hunger, 2-3 per person are appropriate. The menu changes from time to time, and sometimes dishes that we like are gone (or changed), but overall the quality remains high.
Great food, good service. Warm atmosphere. We were there on a Saturday mid afternoon and it was very quiet so I can't advise on noise or action. Food was excellent-- and we tried a lot of different things. Great selection of tapas, decent wine list. Don't miss the stuffed dates!!
We had been to Ole Tapas in June and loved it. It's an attractive restaurant. We're at a slight disadvantage because we don't eat pork or shellfish, so the tapas menu is limited. Of the plates we tried, we really liked the short ribs. The others were nothing special. Apparently they change the menu seasonally and we would try again when more things we like come back.
My husband and I are from out of town and stumbled upon this gem through Open Table and Yelp. It had hundreds of raving reviews and we could not agree more. We were celebrating our anniversary and had a cozy, quiet table. The ambience of this restaurant was perfect for our romantic occasion. Our Spanish-speaking waiter was helpful in explaining the menu and food choices we weren't familiar with. He was entertaining, as well as very professional, giving us great service and suggestions. We enjoyed five or six tapas (the flank steak and crispy chicken were our favorites) and shared a pitcher of the best sangria ever. We even got two desserts to share, even though we didn't finish them the selections were just too good to decide on only one. I wish we lived closer so we could go back on a Saturday when there is live music. We just may have to make an hour and a half drive for that!
We tried Tapas in various cities and found very good ones. This one has very good food, excellent service and reasonable prices as some Tapas restaurants can break the bank. Had the excellent Sunday paella special and we were able to try various selections. Our teenage son really enjoyed his selections and was able to satisfy his ample appetite.
Food is good but way over-priced for what you get...I could have made it at home for a fraction of the cost. This is a bar with a restaurant, not a restaurant with a bar. There was no wait staff. The bartender doubled as our waiter. Nice venue, intimate semi circle booth, dancers and music on scheduled days.
Went there for my daughter's graduation from UD. We had 6 people. Server was excellent; very attentive; made very good recommendations regarding some tapas, the sangria and pailla. The food was very tasty; good sangria. Would go there again if I'm ever back in DE.
This restaurant was such a delight! The owners are wonderful and make you feel like you are a guest in their home. The food is fantastic. I went there for a business lunch with 7 of my coworkers. We let the server and owner choose everything for us because we were not sure what to get. Everything was fantastic and it was really just a good time.
