Amazing food and the best margarita I’ve had in a long time! Get the garlic shrimp!
Our belated Mother's Day dinner was relaxed, fun, and delicious. Great place to eat, chat, and try something different. Really good food!
It was an amazing experience and the food was excellent! All of our dishes were amazing from all the grilled meats, drinks, and even the desserts. Everything was made fresh, authentic, and truly captured the Latin American cuisine! Our server Lauren Stewart was extremely helpful, sweet, and gracious throughout our dining experience. Chef Juan Manuel Aguinagas and his staff was extremely welcoming and put together an amazing night for my family! I would recommend this place to visit! :)
It has a great atmosphere and great food. The duck breast was a special treat for Mother’s Day.
So normally I would say that this Ole Tapas is a great place to eat Spanish inspired dishes. When we returned from a trip to Spain it was a fun place to eat and remind us of our trip. It's not far from our home. The food is good and the wine is always wonderful. On this trip in particular it was Mother's Day. I had made reservations in advance and at a time when I thought they would be least busy, 4pm. We arrived at 4:05pm and were told we would have a 10 minute wait while they prepared our table. The restaurant was not particularly busy. When they seated us they put us at a table directly in front of the kitchen door. My least favorite place to sit in any restaurant. The meal was good, the wine even better but I hated all the traffic on both sides of our table. I'd give the ambiance a big fat ZERO even with the wine! When we got home I got a email from Open Table saying we were a no show! Which didn't surprise me as the staff in general seemed off. Sometimes it's the little things in life that make all the difference.
Delicious margarita. Figs were okay, omelette decent, shrimp were bland. Clams were like big rubbery erasers. Wish I had ordered paella.
Love this place, the food is always delicious!!
Pleasant environment, good service, interesting and varied menu, great and fairly priced wine list. They often have live Spanish-style dining music. I could have done without the "syrupy" love song violin playing over canned backing music, though :-)
After being seated we waited an hour for our food to arrive. There was a large party in the back of the restaurant that apparently caused the kitchen to be backed up. We were not in a hurry but we were really hungry. Our server gave us some bruschetta on the house to tide us over but it was a very small amount. The service did pick up and we enjoyed our food . Then it took quite a while to get the check at the end of our meal. I also realized later that the server overcharged us. This is the reason for the lower value rating. The food was good and the ambiance was nice but the slow service at the beginning and being overcharged put a damper on things for me.
It was just okay. We’ve visited many times and this was our least favorite experience there. The tapas all came out at once and the fried foods were way over fried. The white sangria was basically white wine with a few maraschino cherries in it.
Fabulous time with 5 friends. We were able to indulge in some decadent tapas. The figs were sweet n sassy, while the cheese board was creamy deliciousness. The somasillo were rich with flavor. Oh, too much goodness all around.
Interesting is that this my friends first discovery of this lovely little restaurant with decadent finds. They will definitely be back.
First time. I liked the option of trying different items. Will be returning to try some other items.
You need to ask for a table by the bar in order to be quiet. Otherwise you are in a larger area where you can be next to a large party. The food was ok, the menu names are more appealing looking than what you get.
This restaurant came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. We had a wonderful first experience in addition to a birthday celebration! Our waiter was knowledgeable, and very patient . I enjoyed every bite. The all you can eat Paella serving size is HUGE! I have shared our experience with numerous friends and we will definitely be going back again.
We had a special request to leave scallions off the dishes. It’s added as a finish so should be easy to skip. Dish after dish continued to be served with scallions. Otherwise it was fine.
We used to love coming here. The food is really good and the small plates provides the opportunity for sharing of many different tastes.
The service, unfortunately, has gone way downhill. Last night was the second time in a row that we have left shaking our heads. So what happened?
In a tapas restaurant, you might order a few plates, eat those, then order more. This is what we did. The second round included two different items -one shrimp, one scallops. The shrimp came out in a reasonable time frame. The scallops were a no show. After finishing the shrimp and waiting 10-15 minutes, we hailed our waiter...
"The plate will be right up", he said. After another 25 minutes, we asked for the manager. Miraculously, the waiter - who had been absent the entire time gap - also showed up. Oh, they are so sorry, it will be right out in two minutes, can they offer us a free dessert?
No, we replied, just give us the (fill in the blanks with our sentiment) check. Which they did, noting that we had not been charged for the scallops, the same dish we were never served.
This is indicative of our recent experiences here. The food is good, but the restaurant is not run professionally. If you don't mind taking three hours for dinner, enjoy!
Manuel and team have been killing it for years now! I bring all my European, South American, and metropolitan US friends and customers here-great place!
Excellent food and service. The staff is very friendly and the owner is great. This was a customer visit, but, also enjoy bringing my family.
This restaurant is one of our "go-to's". Love the freshness of all of the dishes there!
Overall it was a nice dinner but the overall price was ridiculous for such small plates. I did the Valentine's day special 7 course meal 59 dollars per person drinks not included. The biggest plate was a salad, one course was so small another waiter asked to take the plate because they thought we finished it and we literally didn't touch the plate yet! The main course was a steak the size of ur palm, and two plates were shared the asparagus and the dessert, the asparagus plate had four skinny asparagus ! We had two each , so filling. . .and one scoop of ice cream, one brownie, yet 59 dollars PER PERSON. I think we would at least get our own plate. Also we got sangria menu said 29 dollars and I got charged 32, mind u it was a quarter ice. Overall it was a 180 dollar dinner and they forced a 20 percent tip for idk what. I would not recommend this place for events just regular dining.
This review is based on my experience solely on Valentine’s day. I’ve dined at Ole Tapas many times and had a wonderful experience each and every time. V-day was different, and very disappointing. They need to stick to the usual menu and their specialty - Spanish cuisine.
Ole' Tapas has been in this location for a number of years and there's a reason for that. The selection of tapas and other dishes is varied, the food is timed and presented well at your table and the staff members are friendly and helpful. They also have a nice wine list.
This is becoming our favorite go-to. For starters, none of the parking / seating hassles that apply to Main Street Newark when UD is in session. Service , food and wine are consistently excellent. Entertainment most Saturday nights (flamenco dancing, guitar; and violin). Tapas is great to graze, indulge, share. Terrific South American wines. Always good specials, and a great happy hour. I should reconsider my review - I don't want to give away the area's best-kept secret!
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Food (we had Tapas) was great !!!! All of the dishes (5 Tapas selections) were perfectly cooked and flavored. We will be back soon.
Service was poor. Drinks were expensive and delivered late. We were charged for something we did not order. We ordered paella since it was my father in law’s 94th birthday. It was served once then we had to get up to get ourselves a second helping. One dish showed up at the end of the meal. We asked if we could bring a birthday cake and the restaurant said yes. Then, at the table, they informed us that there would be a $2/ slice cutting charge. When my wife left a 10% tip to reflect the poor overall experience, the waitress ran after her to complain about the size of the tip.
Excellent service and food. Booth tables were really private.
Awesome food as well as the dancing and music being great!
It was a great experience but it was a bit chilly in the back where we were and I specifically asked to be sat away from the doors and bathrooms and we has the option of near the doors or bathrooms. Other than that, it was top notch fabulous! The delicious wine and tapas warmed me right up.
Excellent menu with many options. This is such a great spot to try many different dishes and drink great wine!
Service and food never disappoint. Staff is knowledgeable about the menu and Spanish culture. This is our go to place.
Christmas gathering with friends. Good food and awesome service. Server was very helpful with the menu and offer great suggestions. I love that the owner comes out and greets guests.
The place was very authentic. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly.
We took our friends from our of state here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! The atmosphere was very pleasant- we had asked for a table in a quiet location and were accommodated quickly; the food was excellent and wonderfully prepared (and hot when it was supposed to be!). Our server was very knowledgeable and pleasant. All-in-all it was a wonderful evening and we would recommend Ole' Tapas any time!
We ordered a full pig. We didn't expect it to come with anything but it came with mashed potatoes and veggies! It was so delicious.
Excellent food, excellent service, excellent experience.
I've reviewed this restaurant several times already, so I'll be brief. This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Newark, DE area. We always share several tapas (small plates); depending on one's hunger, 2-3 per person are appropriate. The menu changes from time to time, and sometimes dishes that we like are gone (or changed), but overall the quality remains high.
Great food! especially the empanadas, very nice atmosphere!
What a wonderful surprise dinner. Everything was delicious and the service was great.
Sergio was very inviting and hospital; made for a great dining experience!
Ambience was nice, service staff was very friendly. Food was very good.
