We have not been since new owners took over. In need of sprucing up. Our server was really great. The food was good. But the atmosphere was lacking.
Good Mexican food, for both locals as well as night out in Cambridge. Nicely presented and above average quality
We hadn't been to Ole for at least 5 years. We used to love it but it's really changed. The floor plan is different and so is the food. The menu is shorter and less creative. The quality of the food was lacking. My enchiladas weren't even warm. There were also a number of parties with small children and the room was really quite noisy. That's not necessarily the restaurant's fault but contributed to an all around negative experience. We won't return.
Best Mexican restaurant ever!
My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Ole. We thought it would be a first for both of us, but when we arrived, I realized that I had been there before for a work lunch. We had an early reservation, but it looked like we were the first customers to sit down, so maybe I didn't need it. The guacamole was outstanding. I had the beef enchilada's, and they were very good. My wife had chicken enchilada's, and she said they were excellent. The service was great. We had a very nice time.
Love it there.. we will definitely go back..especially for the churros!
I see why others give 3 stars. Food was fine. After dinner the waitress asked if we wanted to get another round of drinks. When we said we didn’t know she said our table was reserved for another party in 10 minutes. Ehhhh.
Food and service were great per usual. A little pricey, but the servings are quite large. Plus it has the benefit of being one of the few restaurants in the area with smoke parking!
Lovely waitstaff but food not as good as I remember. Worth going for the fresh made to order guacamole!!!! So delicious!
Olé? More Like "Oy Vey..." Believe me, I am only giving two stars out of a generosity and a certain regard I have for restaurants that stay in business through thick and thin. Olé certainly has endured in its Inman Square location, but our recent experience was shockingly bad. We never got food that we ordered, and the food that did come was universally uninspired. In some cases the dishes were downright awful-- bony, dry fish; tough, flavorless chicken. The service was bare bones, the waiters disappearing for half an hour at a stretch. Our party of six was then charged a 20 percent service fee without explanation or notification— and believe me, we were not "problem customers." There's no way we could have caused trouble, since we had almost no interaction with the wait staff throughout our meal.
We had read that this was modestly-priced Mexican food, but that's not true: entrees are $20 and up, and with three drinks and tip our bill for two people came to $90. So it's much more of an upscale night out, price-wise, and a typical Mexican restaurant. That aside, the food was great and we were satisfied with the experience.
We were a party of 9 , we all really enjoyed our meal choices. The guacamole made at the table is outstanding.
The noise level was very high the music should be lowered.
The server was good but his assistant did not know the menu nor who ordered what, our food was brought to the table and it felt like it was being actioned off.
Nice ambiance and good quality food. The prices are a bit on the high side though for what you get.
Very dependable, excellent Mexican food- has only improved over the 25 years I have occasionally had dinner there. Miss the cozier Street front dining area
It was March 6th and we were going to Lisa LeBlanc’s concert. We were not very happy the last time we went there. So we were anxious to see if we would find it improved. No luck. Never again. So sad.
Quality food, good flavors, but overpriced for what it is. The beans tasted like they came out of a can. The interior decoration could have been better. I saw an old plastic Christmas decoration still up in February.
My husband and I have dined at Ole in the past and our first visit was close to 15 years ago. We always liked the food; particularly since it isn't easy to get authentic Mexican cuisine. We have not been to Ole in a few years and were happy to see that it was still up and running, with prices scaled down since our last visit. Our food was delicious and the service was good, our server got hit with a rush of new customers (large party) and she valiantly tried to be as attentive as possible. One disappointment was my margarita that appeared to be 70% crushed ice. Otherwise, we heartily recommend Ole to anyone seeking good, authentic Mexican dining.
Enjoyed the meal a lot. Table side was guac was excellent.
I loved the service and the food and the yummy spicy mango margarita! I had a great time and my boyfriend loved his shrimp tacos while I had the enchiladas mole which was really good! I also enjoyed the churros for dessert...hmmm...yummy!
Everyone enjoyed their food (my skirt steak special was tender flavorful and perfectly cooked) and the service was really excellent. I had a margarita that was delicious but mostly ice - not a good value at $14. I found the ambiance a bit cafeteria-like and not what I had expected from previous visits.
Great family gathering place. The best guacamole! Good, friendly service.
Ole is under new management and has turned from a jewel of a fine dining Mexican restaurant into a seedy bar. I was shocked by the new ambience. I had a housefull of guests whom I had invited to Ole for a special Christmas get together, and I was so embarrassed by the noisy environment, unappealing decor, and mediocre food. Sadly, I won't be returning again.
Had the duck mole dish which was just amazing. As tasty as terrific duck we had is south of France which looks and tastes almost like a cut of beef and with the great sauce (and Mexican style mashed potatoes) made for a meal that was definitely worth the price.
Most of our party enjoyed their food and drinks, but agreed that it was overpriced for what it was. We've definitely had better Mexican for a third of the cost. My chicken tinga tacos were extremely spicy - to the point where I could only eat 1.5 out of 4 tacos. Had to give the rest away to my friends who also agreed that they were way too spicy (and one of them LOVES spicy food). Don't think I'll be coming back.
Olé continues to deliver a great dinner, but not quite as fresh and notable flavors as years past. The guacamole made table-side still delights, and the service is friendly. But reducing the restaurant into the back room made the ambiance a bit less elegant and cool. We'd go back but with slightly lowered expectations.
This was a great choice for my birthday dinner on a snowy evening. A warm place with food that was both a comfort and interesting -- went beyond usual Mexican restaurant fare. Our waiter was attentive and offered good advice.
Was a bit too quiet, a slow night.
Food was tasty.
The dining room is behind the take-out area in this restaurant, so I had some reservations when I first walked in with my extended family in tow, but we had a lovely, affordable meal that delivered authentic Central American cuisine. There’s a big menu, so everyone in our (large) Party was able to find something they were excited about, including the vegan and some of my family members with more pedestrian (read: no spice, nothing “weird”) palates. They were also happy to accommodate our party of 9 without issue (something I discovered is a rarity in the Boston area). Generous portions and really good salsa!!
Our food was delicious. Our server was friendly but so, so, so slow. The space itself is very warm and welcoming. They are going for the tequila crowd and were a bit surprised by my order of a glass of wine... wine snobs look elsewhere! After all is said and done, the mole sauce is worth every penny.
They must have a new cook at Ole. We stopped going there over a year ago because the food was cookie cutter Mexican. Now its got new style, new deliciousness and a sense of the Mexican market and the best Mexican kitchen at the same time. Maybe the best Mexican food in Boston.
Best Mexican in the greater Boston area.
Well-made (and not oversized or oversugared) margaritas; fresh guac, all dishes (tamales, chicken tacos, tuna tacos, mole enchiladas) very tasty. Great service.
I'm not sure if the place is under new management, or what, but it's completely different. The front part, which was where the atmosphere was, now appears to be a different entity entirely. It was too bright and empty- I think it might be the take out . Handwritten signs pointed top Ole being in the back room. There was little to no atmosphere back there. A fire at least made it look cozy but it was a 70 degree evening and made the room too hot. The menus were dirty. The guacamole is not made at the table anymore, but it was excellent. Of a party of 3, two of our plates were ok, the third was great (a steak plate special). The margaritas were mostly ice. T
This restaurant has been sold and is now no more than ordinary take-out food served at tables.
The food was awful and we did not like the restaurant redesign.
This place was so much better in years past. The ambiance and menu have changed a lot and not for the better.
Everything was delicious! Definitely get the guacamole! It's the best I've ever had.
The food is incredible and highly recommended. The ambiance is not what it was before the remodeling. We were seated in the take out part of the restaurant (in front) despite having had a reservation. The front lacks ambiance and is loud. We asked to be moved to the back and fortunately there was room for us. In the future, I'd request to be seated in the back restaurant. Or better yet, if not wanting a margarita (which are quite good), I'd just get the food to go.
We always have a good meal here. The fresh Guacamole is awesome as are the handcrafted margaritas. Parking can be tough on weekend nights. They have a to-go counter in front, or you can sit down and enjoy in the back.
Ole is apparently under new management. The prices seemed higher than before, but we had not been there in a while. It was practically empty on a Saturday night around 9. The guacamole was not good. It was made at the table and it was so loaded with salt and lime that you couldn't taste the avocado. They did take it off the bill. The rest of the food was ok. We were expecting the old Ole and were disappointed. They may improve with experience.
