Old Tbilisi Garden Is The Only Georgian Restaurant In Greenwich Village, New York City. Old Tbilisi Garden opened on July 4th, 2014. Since then, it has been one of the only few restaurants that offer authentic Georgian Cuisine in Manhattan. Winemaking is deeply rooted in Georgia’s history, culture
and economy. The world’s first cultivated grapevines are
thought to have originated in the country’s fertile valleys
some 8,000 years ago. Georgia’s long winemaking history
has given rise to unique methods of production, such as
the “Kakhetian rule”. Georgians make wine that is aged and
stored in a special cone-shaped clay vessel known as
a Qvevri.

We went for brunch. Food, especially the khachapuri, was generally good. Unfortunately eggplant rolls were straight from the fridge, not fresh. When we arrived at 12pm they were still washing the floor with smelly detergent. Awful ambiance.

First time at this restaurant. We were seated rapidly as we had a reservation. Service was prompt. We chose not to have alcohol as we had a drink earlier so can’t judge. My husband & I shared pork short ribs app, along with order of their spicy sauce. Ribs did not have much flavor & were a little tough- used a lot of the sauce on them. For entrees, I ordered the baked fish which was supposed to be in a lemon sauce & served with veggie. Husband chose veal stew that came with Georgian bread. Large portion of fish but I didn’t taste any lemon in the sauce, although the fish was tasty. Veggie was raw spinach on plate- unexpected but ok. Stew was tasty but very thin - husband liked my fish better & added to his stew. Bread was good but very “tough” -hard to break pieces off. To be fair, the food may have been representative of the culture- glad we went & recommend for anyone wanting this cuisine- just not my favorite. Also, they only take cash & Amex card- is an ATM available.

I invited my friends to my birthday and everyone enjoyed it. This is an outstanding restaurant with professional service, a warm and cozy interior, and delicious food and wine. Special compliments to the Chef, he is a creative magician, and every dish is an artwork of perfect taste and presentation. I would recommend it to all my friends with no questions asked. So, if you are looking to have a great dinner with the people you love it is the perfect place to be.

Lovely setting in garden area. Spices and flavor of stews were very good. However, the lamb was on the tough side and the chicken portion very small. The grilled vegetable appetizer is recommended.

Great food and atmosphere, and great service. As a Georgian, it really reminded me of home. Everything was authentic and delicious. Definitely recommend the yogurt soup, and Ajaruli is a must-have. Beef & pork khinkali (dumplings) were great. Personally, I'm used to them being a lot juicier, and being able to drink the soup out of them once you bite in, ones served to us had a tiny bit of juice, but they were delicious nonetheless. last but not least, mtsvadi, Georgian shish kababs, a must try. I recommend the pork ones. Of course the wines. Georgia is known for its wines, so don't be scared to try some of them. they might be hard to pronounce but the amber wines are great, and personally, I like sweet wines so kindzmarauli is my go-to.

The food and the service were good. Their new policy is to accept cash or Amex credit card only which I wasn’t aware of. Had to use an ATM machine so that I could pay for dinner for 5 people. Had Georgian food at Brooklyn Georgian restaurants that was better.

My hubby and I had lunch here last weekend. I had made a reservation for 1 pm, just in case it was busy, but when we arrived, there were plenty of open tables. We were able to pick our table, and chose a 2-seater just at the edge of the back garden. This allowed us to enjoy the light from the garden and the sound of the fountain, while eating. Our server appeared to be the only person working, and he was amazing. Attentive, friendly, knowledgeable - just great. For food, we ordered the Kharcho soup, which is served with some rustic, crusty bread (delicious), then the Ajaruli, the cheese-filled bread boat with butter and raw egg mixed in - so decadent! Then the Lamb chops, which were cooked to perfection and just delicious with a small side salad. Food quality was great, atmosphere was really tranquil and we felt like we were able to relax and really relish our meal. This is our 2nd time here and we will definitely be back - highly recommended especially for groups, since food portions are large and many of the items are perfect for sharing!

Be prepared to eat a lot of (delicious) cheese when you come to Old Tbilisi. This was my first time, and I already want to go back. Plenty of vegetarian options if you eat eggs and dairy. Everything here, from the mineral water, to the sodas, wines, and of course, the food, is uniquely Georgian, and unlike any other dining experience in NYC. Book early in the evening for a chance to sit in the indoor garden area at the rear of the restaurant.

I had seen ajaruli - a bread "boat" filled with melted cheese - made on a cooking show, and became obsessed! I was finally able to try it at Old Tbilisi, and it was phenomenal. Sadly, the rest of the food didn't measure up. I ordered a chicken kabob entree, which was just so-so. Among five good-sized pieces, one was undercooked, two were overcooked and two were perfect. The kabobs were served with an arugula salad rather than rice, which was disappointing (even though I love arugula). [The good news is I had room for ice cream, which we got on the way home.] My son had a chicken dish served in a spicy garlic cream sauce. It appeared to be "the world's smallest chicken", as he put it, and was bone-in. Because it came in the sauce, it was difficult to trim properly. It was served with lovely bread, which he used to soak up the sauce. Service was very good, attentive without being intrusive. Prices were very reasonable, and the decor is lovely. The "garden" isn't really outside but enclosed, which made us a bit nervous re: covid. Fortunately there was only one other occupied table, so it wasn't a big deal. This place is cash and Amex only, a fact which is communicated multiple times and in multiple ways: when making the reservation, verbally by the host before seating, on a placard at the table and verbally by the server. So if you somehow miss this, you are truly devoid of gray matter!
