We had Father's Day dinner at the Old Surrey and we had a wonderful dinner. It was a set menu and I had the prawn appetizer, spring salad, Tenderloin steak and lobster tail and grand marnier strawberries with ice cream for dessert. Everything was well presented and tasted perfect. We won't wait for a special event to go back.
It was our 1st anniversary and it was the perfect place to remember our honeymoon we had had in France. The wine was excellent, the staff thoughtful, and the food delicious. Thanks for facilitating a wonderful romantic evening for us!
A lovely ambiance staff are friendly and aim to please.Food is okay i had the mussels to start some of the shells had bo mussels which was disappointing. The Caesar salad is the best.
We had a lovely meal. We both had the spring special. I had the mussels which I did not like at all, couldn’t eat them. Every other course was wonderful, exceptional staff , service and timing of the courses was spot on.
We found the service to be imbeccable and the food was fantastic food
Haven't been there in years. My mistake !! What a great restaurant !!
Always our favourite place to go, exceptional food..
they treat the entire family well , even children. My 8 year old daughter loves to go, even chose it for her 8th birthday
Best Caesar salad ever, made table side and customized for the one person out of 6 who was allergic to anchovies! Fabulous mussels in Gorgonzola cream sauce. Lamb ribs great, leg slices less so, menu said mint sauce but came with minuscule amount of commercial mint jelly. Filet mignon topped with crab was very good (one of four was over cooked, perhaps a service mixup)). And the meal ended with excellent crepes with rhubarb and strawberry, yum. While each of the servers were very nice, there seemed to be confusion as to who was doing what, almost as if short staffed and everyone filling in. Several times, we needed to repeatedly request things, e.g. more bread (which when finally brought, came with no extra butter). I’ll go back, a great meal but no longer in the top 100 in Canada.
Good food and great service in the middle of Surrey. We sampled half of the menu and everything was well prepared and delicious. I will be back to try the other half. Cheers
Everything was delicious as always but the young man who was making our caesur salad put to much red wine vinegar into the dressing so it wilted the lettuce quickly and was very runny
We went for our anniversary and the food/service was spectacular! The food was fast and delicious, and our server was so funny and nice. 10/10 would recommend for a special night.
A bit dissapointed. We all ordered from the spring tasting menu. The duck risotto was served lukewarm. The mussels were good. The beef filet
wAs not tender. The halibut was very good. The lamb was served medium well, they did not ask how we would like it, would have expected medium rare. The roast lamb served with the rack was not tender. The crepes were good. We had been once before and were very impressed but this time not. Most likely will not return . We did not complain as we were with guests.
Terrrrrrrrrific as usual. Has been our favorite spot for 15 years. Consistent great food.
I have been going there for over 30 years and the food and service is always impeccable.
Service - I didn't see my server smile once. It was 20 mins before we even received water glasses at our table. When she did arrive, she was cold and brief and appeared to want to be anywhere else but there. At the end of our dinner when 3 servers/busboys came to take the plates off our table, they were reaching over our heads and it felt like we were being swarmed. The staff clearly need to be trained in proper service - not one of them appeared to know the most basic rules of which side to be setting plates down on.
Food - not seasoned properly. The escargot was gritty. The cream of asparagus soup looked (and tasted) so dull I could have been eating lumpy baby food that was made a week ago. The filet and lobster plate looked like the food was thrown on my plate and in that moment, I was definitely not eating 'with my eyes'. I've seen students in culinary school on their first day of school, plate better than that. This is my 4th time visiting the restaurant as I have always applauded this restaurant for being one of the better restaurants in this side of town and I was thoroughly embarrassed by having put my stamp of approval on it.
This "special occasion" - Mother's Day - did not feel special at all. I won't be back and neither will I ever recommend this restaurant to any one else.
Been a regular there for a number of years. The food quality is excellent, the service is first class. Will be going for many years to come.
This place is hands down one of the best restaurants I have been to. Everything from the service to the meal was amazing. When they made me a b52 coffee at the end it just topped off my night. My wife and I will come here again.
We went on Mothers' Day and ordered the set menu - 4 course dinner, with several options for each course. Good food, decent portion, excellent service. A bit expensive, but food quality made up for this.
The experience we had this time at the old Surrey in was not quite as good as our last one.
While ours Mother’s had a good time, the constant, and I do mean constant mix ups with our seating plan and the table next to us was frustrating to say the least.
At one point our waitress who took our order, gave my son a steak knife, when she took the order for a steak from me. Later another waiter brought another steak knife to my son, and we mentioned I would be having the steak and I have a knife. A few minutes later our waitress came by and took the steak knife from in front of me. When I mentioned I moved it there she said “ I know because I am the one who put it there ( meaning near my son )”.
Both mothers, myself and my wife all were a bit shocked at the way she said it. Especially since she was the one with the mix up.
We recieved numerous apologies and explanations for the constant mix ups, and yet they continued on the the rest of the dinner.
On a side note the young man and lady pouring water/helping out were very polite and there whenever we needed anything.
Everyone’s meal was delicious, however 50$ and my steak was maybe a 4oz cut before it was cooked, combined with 2 timbit sized duchess like potatoes and veggies seemed a bit high for my plate.
We would still return, but most likely for a dinner date.
Visit for mother's day... Very fitting atmosphere for such special occasion.
Classic, traditional, local. Dust off your etiquette skills and treat your lover to a unique, soul-satisfying dinner experience.
Lovely. A small group (6) of us gathered to celebrate my birthday. We had a comfortable table in the sun room and it was perfect. We have dined here many times but our first time in this room- it did not disappoint!
Our guests enjoyed the attentive service and were wowed when our salad and crepes were done table side. A lost art truly!
Spiros and the rest of the staff were discreet, helpful and so accommodating to one of our guests having a sea food allergy. From start to finish, perfect food, and comfortable and private atmosphere. They source much of their products locally and it is evident in the flavors, as well a seasonal dinner special is always available and definitely a luxury to enjoy.
We will be back in the future— and so will our friends. A perfect place to celebrate or just enjoy dinner out.
Had my Mother’s Birthday dinner there. We were treated first class. Great vibe. Love the table side Caesar salad, crepes Suzette and Spanish coffees. Forgot what s gem this place really is. My mother said it was the best birthday she has had!
Excellent Menu options, to include a Seasonal Set Menu. Well constructed Martini's from a long list of Martini's. Hot bread with whipped butter and an amuse bouche . Table side preparation of several dishes is a notable touch to the event. Excellent recommendations by Server resulted in a perfect dinner and desert. After dinner table side preparation of Flaming Special Coffees, liberal liqueur , lush golden abundant whipping cream. A desert menu that has something special for everybody. Impeccable service by all at Table Side. A bright, clean, fresh, yet nostalgic interior welcomes one to an evening of great food and great service. Kudos Old Surrey Restaurant, 100 Years Old and going strong!
We go here for all our anniversaries. My wife’s grandma and grandpa would always go for there anniversaries. The waiters are very personable and the food is ALWAYS delicious. The wine selection is great and there specialty coffees are delicious also. We will always continue to go here for our anniversary.
Another great meal. my wife and I have been going here for special occasions for over 20 years and they've gotten it right every time...especially one time when the power went out! that was a true candlelight meal :)
If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would. My wife and I both left the experience noting that it was the best dining experience we've ever had. We have been on cruise ships, to resorts, and many special event dinners. This was incredible.
As always an amazing experience. Food and service was excellent. I was a little disappointed that they didn't recognise my daughters birthday in any way, even though I was asked what we were celebrating when we were seated.
great for special occassions. priced well for the portion and quality of the food. the service has always been outstanding. it's one of the best casual but fine dining in surrey. highly recommend it for those looking for a quality place for dates. the heritage building makes it unique. truly a must eat at place in the lower mainland. the table side service is both fresh and entertaining. ample parking. easy to make reservation. will go back again and for years down the road.
This is not cheap but is worth it. Great food and service. Excellent Caesar salad. Sometimes I go there just for that and an appetizer.
Absolutely the best restaurant in the lower mainland!
Great spring special; 4 course meal @ $58 with tableside dessert and Caesar salad
Im going back for more.Don,t ask for a well done steak. The waiter is not a #### head he is just french.HAHA love your restraunt. That rice thingy dish with the duck was the best.
For my first time there , it was amazing. The service was outstanding. Everyone was attentive but not overbearing. The food was prepared perfectly and was delicious. We order the spring set menu which made it easier to decide and was a great price for such a fine dining experience.
The food was very good. We had the Spring special. My appie was the steamed mussels. My partner had the duck confit risotto. She had the filet and crab while I had the lamb combo as mains. Both were really good. The caesar salad and crepes suzette were both made table side and both were great. Portions were good and in fact for us almost too much food.
The service seemed confused. We were seated at our table and no came to speak with us for about 5 minutes. No drink request no menus, nothing. I finally asked a waiter for menus. We were not alone. I saw someone else have to the same thing. We also waited nearly 30 minutes between our salad being finished and main course. Other tables around us who were served behind us got their mains before we did. Even our waiter noticed the delay and told us our food would be right out. It wasn't for another 10 minutes.
It seems they could use some organization and structure to how their staff work together. The food was great and the table side preparation was fun, something you don't see very often anymore.
This was the second time attending this restaurant and they did not disappoint. Everything about this restaurant is first class.
We were celebrating a milestone in a business partnership and had an extraordinary experience of fine dining and gracious service. Arrangements were easy to make and the menu offered lots of tempting choices that lived up to the menu descriptions in presentation and taste. Props to the chef. I had forgotten what a neighbourhood gem this place is; I will be back - soon.
It was fantastic.
