About Old Stein Inn
IN 1983, Karl & Ursula Selinger of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany in the Rhineland Pfalz opened The Old Stein Inn to serve the finest German cuisine. They decided to locate in Anne Arundel County just 8 miles south of Annapolis in Edgewater Maryland. The Old Stein has a traditional Biergarten to give neighbors a place to enjoy al fresco dining with friends and family. The ten German taps pour an unparalleled selection of beer. The Old Stein has been featured on "The Best Of Show" on the Food Network and has won multiple awards for the Munster Cheese & Crab Soup and the Apple Cheesecake.
The Old Stein is no run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Diners come from all over the Mid-Atlantic (or right around the corner) to this family-owned, Maryland gem to enjoy fun, food, friends—and, or course, a cold brew in a gemütlichkeit atmosphere. Eins, Zwei, Drei, G"suffa!

Old Stein Inn Ratings and Reviews
Ok, not the best meal there. Server a little overzealous. Asked for water with no ice because it was cold. Got water with extra ice so I was nearly choking trying to get the bread down. Order gemuse spaetzel. Iced raved about this in the past but this time it wasn’t mixed veggies, it was spaetzel and Brussels sprouts with no noticeable seasoning. Note to self and other diners-always ask what vegetables are included.
This is a fun and lively place with great food. I have almost no experience with German food and was amazed at how extensive the menu was. I opted for a wild boar sausage filled with cranberries, a special that nobody had ordered yet before according to our server. I took my chances and with an open mind was very pleased with the dish which was served on spaetzle with some potatoes, squash and sunchokes. I had a glass of New Zealand Pinot Gris which was pleasant. My son had pork chops and my husband had a sausage combo platter with bratwurst and BAUERNWURST. We shared a waffle/ice cream dessert. All in all, a new food experience and pleasant service. We did have a long wait for the food, so some bread would have been nice to include.
First visit to the Old Stein Inn!! We absolutely loved it! The decor and ambiance of the restaurant were great! Our server, Barry, was wonderful - on top of drink refills, anticipated our needs, made great food recommendations - just absolutely great! The food was excellent - our party of 6 enjoyed everything we ordered. We will definitely be back because there are a lot more things on the menu that we want to try! Thanks for a great visit!
We were introduced to Old Stein Inn just recently and were so impressed, we invited other friends to join us there for dinner a week later! Since my experience is limited, I cannot comment beyond that we have had delicious food, excellent service, and great fun for our two visits there. One visit was on a weekend night and, even with reservations, we waited 30 minutes for a table; based on others' feedback, this is a very popular spot so reservations are recommended. Worth the drive and the wait. The other visit was on Sunday evening and, although the restaurant was busy, we had a minimal wait. Will definitely go back.
We have been here many times and even though the chefs may change, the food is always top notch. Our service on this evening was slow and forced. Sit outside if you can. The beer garden is out of this world and the ambiance out there is lovely, even in winter.
Dining here all year round is repeatedly a fine memorable experience. Moving into the winter months provides a glimpse into showing how adept they are at serving fresh game in a delicate and complex manor. From their 10th tap to their rotating specials. . . .each visit is sure to be a unique yet familiar experience for a special occasion to family fare alike. Prost!
I have been craving Old Stein for 3 years! Finally got there and I couldn't have been more pleased! it was remodeled since the last time I was there. Ambiance was amazing, Stella was amazing, our waiter (Jake) was amazing, and the food and beer couldn't not have been any better! just what I needed! I cannot wait to go back!!
We have been coming to the Old Stein for decades. Usually, the service is top-notch. On this occasion, our server (great gal) was also the bartender. We watched her being torn between bar service and table service. This evening, I think both suffered a little as we had to wait for drinks and our tab at the end of the meal. Notwithstanding, we had a very good meal and the food was excellent, as always.
My cup was dirty and they didn’t even address it after I brought it up to the waiter. Still charged me $3 dollars for coffee in a dirty cup. Service was slow I think they were watching the game in the TV in the bar but then I wanted to also😜 The prices are high for a German restaurant. The Edelweiss in Virginia is superior and their prices are much better. There food is very good here though I cannot complain about that. The waiters are mostly high school kids so what do you expect . For an $80 meal I would like a professional waiter.
We took another couple here to celebrate his birthday. They had never been to the Old Stein before, but they really enjoyed it. We sat outside. Originally they put us a little too close to the band to where we wouldn't be able to have a conversation with each other. We asked to move further way from the band, but still outside. It was perfect. We could carry on a conversation with each other, but still here the music. The band that played Saturday 1/13/18 was FANTASTIC as well. Bring them back...I would like to know the name of that band. The food was tasty as usual. The only down side was we had to ask 4 times to get some water for the table. Other than that it was a great night.
I am a huge Old Stein fan, and have been coming every couple months for 5+ years without a bad experience, until last weekend. I made a reservation with OpenTable for 6:30, since our favorite Polka band (Mike and the Continentals) were playing.
When I arrived, (wearing my Old Stein hoodie) we were led to the furthest back corner of the outside area. I asked if we could sit closer to the band, as there were 4-5 open tables nears the band. I was told no, those tables are reserved. Since we made a reservation, I was confused. I was told that I have to call (no Opentable) and specifically ask for those tables. I was not offered any alternate seating by the hostess, so we took upon ourselves to ask the bartender if we could sit in the bier bar area, to at least see the band. They said yes, and we let our the hostess know we moved tables. We were greeted 20 minutes later, and didn't get our first beers for half an hour. I brought my own mug, which was accidentally filled with beer someone else ordered at our table. We didn't get our appetizers for almost an hour, and entrees for over an hour and a half after sitting down.
I understand that it was a busy Saturday night, but Old Stein staff were not polite, and I've never had issues with seating or service in the past. This was my first bad experience after eating here over 50 times. I love the restaurant, and hope this doesn't happen again. To prevent this, I would recommend making it clear how guests can request seating preference, and double checking seating preference when they arrive.
Samantha was our server and was fabulous. The food wasn’t as authentic as we had hoped but still very good. I suspect it was a bit “Americanized” to tone down the strong flavors that we came to love while stationed in Germany. The German beer was as amazing as I remember! We requested a simple dessert of ice cream and hot raspberries (a dessert we ate regularly in Germany) and the pastry chef was kind enough to create it for us.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!
The food was great. My only complaint is that I felt my table was an after thought... My party of 5 sat in the back area, which is beautiful and warm. I myself and my boyfriend had to go to the bar for water, the check, boxes. We didn’t have plates or silverware, we had to ask for those. The back area was busy, and the bartender and staff did their best. My feedback, is to add a waiter to wait tables to help the bartender during those busy times.
We just moved to the area and decided to try the Old Stein Inn . What a good choice. The place was very busy on a Friday night. The volume was loud but not annoying... just a good vibe. The service was a little slow due to the crowd, but they were working hard. The food was great. I had the sampler with ham, brat and schnitzel with spaetzel. It was delicious. My wife had just the ham with potato salad. She enjoyed it as well. We’ll be back.
The food was very good; However, as a Deutsch-lander I do not consider it authentic German food. The ambiance great; the service wonderful.... Food was really good just not seasoned or prepared in an authentic Deutschland style. I don't believe anyone in the kitchen or in the restaurant had ever even visited Germany much less of German descent. I asked many of the employees several questions about food preparation and dishes and none knew what I was talking about.
Great German food and beer! Highly recommend the sausage and cheese sampler platter. Possibly the best I have had. Portions will satisfy any appetite. Schnitzel sandwich likely best value item on the menu, and is on pretzel bread. My only regret is that I could not sample everything on the menu. Save room for dessert!!
