IN 1983, Karl & Ursula Selinger of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany in the Rhineland Pfalz opened The Old Stein Inn to serve the finest German cuisine. They decided to locate in Anne Arundel County just 8 miles south of Annapolis in Edgewater Maryland. The Old Stein has a traditional Biergarten to give neighbors a place to enjoy al fresco dining with friends and family. The ten German taps pour an unparalleled selection of beer. The Old Stein has been featured on "The Best Of Show" on the Food Network and has won multiple awards for the Munster Cheese & Crab Soup and the Apple Cheesecake.
The Old Stein is no run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Diners come from all over the Mid-Atlantic (or right around the corner) to this family-owned, Maryland gem to enjoy fun, food, friends—and, or course, a cold brew in a gemütlichkeit atmosphere. Eins, Zwei, Drei, G"suffa!

If you like German food, you owe it to yourself to check out the Old Stein Inn. They offer a seasonal selection of delicious, authentic German dishes, accompanied by beautiful wines and beers. The quality is excellent, prices are reasonable, and there are even a few choices for unadventurous types who only eat steak or burgers. There are several gluten-free options, and the chef is very cooperative about preparing off-menu selections. Would definitely recommend!

We met to celebrate a birthday and a get-together. We hadn't seen each other in ages. They are fans of German food so we tried Old Stein. Appetizer of liverwurst on toast points was excellent. I had Kassler Rippchen and the others had pork schnitzel and chicken schnitzel with red cabbage and noodles. All meals were excellent and we had to ask for boxes to take home. Portions are large enough for at least 2 meals. I'm not a beer drinker but the others had beer and said they were good.

Literally, the only thing that marred the meal was the coffee creamer was off, so the waitress took the coffees back and returned with heavy cream. Otherwise spot-on German (American) dining from somersausage to spätzle, to bauernwurst, to strudel- excellent dining experience, excellent staff. Good times!!

It was very warm for this time of year and the doors were up so we ate outside. We really enjoy the food and the music. We are regulars at Old Stein and highly recommend it.

I love The Old Stein. I'm a first generation German American and it just feels like home to me.

The food is always good, the atmosphere is a blast and the staff are friendly. I do think the prices are a bit high for the food they are serving but I am willing to pay it because it's the only German place in the area. My only complaint would be that *SOMETIMES* even when not busy it can be hard to locate your server.

I hesitate to write this review, as I want this restaurant to be a german gem, however, me and my (German) girlfriend did not find the food very tasty. I had fish and chips and the fish was good, however the fries were what looked like the bottom of the bag. Lots of little pieces and nothing to write home about. My friends meal was missing the herb butter leeks, and her sauted veggies were just green beans on top. Very disappointing. The red cabbage was tasteless which was another big disappointment. I really want to love this place, but unfortunately the food just didn't do it.

We went for my son's birthday on St. Patrick's day. Atmosphere was nice and service quick. Very dissatisfied with the food. Ordered 2 8oz steak dinners. I'm almost 100% certain they took 1 8oz steak cut it in thin slices and divided it on 2 plates and charged us 21 dollars for each. The steak had no seasoning and just had a cold slab of herb butter thrown on top. Complete waste of money. Felt truly ripped off.

WE celebrated my wife’s birthday with 3 teenagers and 3 adults. The pretzels came hot and were a great appetizer to go with beer on tap. The kids got unlimited refills of lemonade and were also pleased. The main courses that we ordered were bratwurst (excellent), salmon (good), jaegger Snitzel (very good), German potato pancakes (good). The kids loved the spech-lay (sp) and my sauerkraut was outstanding. This is probably the 5th or 6th birthday we have celebrated there and we are never disappointed. My son is autistic and enjoy’s the scene out back as well as the food. Sylvia the accordian player is his favorite but she wasn’t there last night. Next time!

I do not normally write reviews for ANY restaurant but this warranted it. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived. I am not sure if where we parked was even their parking lot as their lot was full. We had a reservation and waited 15-20 minutes despite the table they seated us in being open and set the entire time. Ordered drinks, apps, and meals. Drink and apps arrived. The fries were cold and soggy, the meat/cheese platter was a tossed together sparse and apparently leftover sausages smothered in butter and stuck together cheeses, and the fried pickles were flavorless.

Our dinner arrived, and it too was flavorless. Having lived in Germany for many years, we have had our fair share of good and bad German food/service which was still better than what we experienced on Saturday night. We had the range of food from schnitzel to spätzle but it was nothing to write home about to say the least.

We ordered dessert, one strudel. 15-20 minutes later, I had to ask the hostess to just bring us the check because it was getting ridiculous. The place had emptied out throughout the course of our dinner so it was not busy at all and it was just strudel. (Which we took to go. It too was lacking in flavor.)

We paid our bill (way too much for the amount and quality of food provided) and as we were leaving we finally saw our waiter who looked as if he was on his way out and done for the night, as well. UHM, SERIOUSLY???!!

Overall, for the time it took to get there, the money spent, and the hype surrounding this establishment, we expected slightly more and were extremely disappointed. Danke, aber nein danke! Tschüss!!

Food and atmosphere was wonderful and authentic!
In the past, service has been great. This experience wasn’t nearly as good. We had multiple servers and all seemed to think the other(s) were handling our orders. It,therefore, took forever to get refills, additional orders, etc.

Ok, not the best meal there. Server a little overzealous. Asked for water with no ice because it was cold. Got water with extra ice so I was nearly choking trying to get the bread down. Order gemuse spaetzel. Iced raved about this in the past but this time it wasn’t mixed veggies, it was spaetzel and Brussels sprouts with no noticeable seasoning. Note to self and other diners-always ask what vegetables are included.

This is a fun and lively place with great food. I have almost no experience with German food and was amazed at how extensive the menu was. I opted for a wild boar sausage filled with cranberries, a special that nobody had ordered yet before according to our server. I took my chances and with an open mind was very pleased with the dish which was served on spaetzle with some potatoes, squash and sunchokes. I had a glass of New Zealand Pinot Gris which was pleasant. My son had pork chops and my husband had a sausage combo platter with bratwurst and BAUERNWURST. We shared a waffle/ice cream dessert. All in all, a new food experience and pleasant service. We did have a long wait for the food, so some bread would have been nice to include.

First visit to the Old Stein Inn!! We absolutely loved it! The decor and ambiance of the restaurant were great! Our server, Barry, was wonderful - on top of drink refills, anticipated our needs, made great food recommendations - just absolutely great! The food was excellent - our party of 6 enjoyed everything we ordered. We will definitely be back because there are a lot more things on the menu that we want to try! Thanks for a great visit!

Pretzel, wurst platter, smoked pork chop, spaetzel all great! But it’s the third visit where the German potato salad was horribly bland! Like not edible bad!

Beer is fantastic and atmosphere the best!

Please fix the German potato salad!
