Very nice place. Been there several times, always happy with the food and service. Recommend it highly!
Very popular restaurant.
Food was great as usual!!
Will definitely come back!
Wonderful visit to Old Stein Inn. The food was great - our service from Barry was excellent! We have loved everything we've ordered on our visits. Would definitely recommend, and we will be back!
I really enjoy Old Stein because it’s different and the food is really good!
WE celebrated my wife’s birthday with 3 teenagers and 3 adults. The pretzels came hot and were a great appetizer to go with beer on tap. The kids got unlimited refills of lemonade and were also pleased. The main courses that we ordered were bratwurst (excellent), salmon (good), jaegger Snitzel (very good), German potato pancakes (good). The kids loved the spech-lay (sp) and my sauerkraut was outstanding. This is probably the 5th or 6th birthday we have celebrated there and we are never disappointed. My son is autistic and enjoy’s the scene out back as well as the food. Sylvia the accordian player is his favorite but she wasn’t there last night. Next time!
Excellent service, phenomenal food, perfect ambiance! Will definitely come back!
I do not normally write reviews for ANY restaurant but this warranted it. The restaurant was crowded when we arrived. I am not sure if where we parked was even their parking lot as their lot was full. We had a reservation and waited 15-20 minutes despite the table they seated us in being open and set the entire time. Ordered drinks, apps, and meals. Drink and apps arrived. The fries were cold and soggy, the meat/cheese platter was a tossed together sparse and apparently leftover sausages smothered in butter and stuck together cheeses, and the fried pickles were flavorless.
Our dinner arrived, and it too was flavorless. Having lived in Germany for many years, we have had our fair share of good and bad German food/service which was still better than what we experienced on Saturday night. We had the range of food from schnitzel to spätzle but it was nothing to write home about to say the least.
We ordered dessert, one strudel. 15-20 minutes later, I had to ask the hostess to just bring us the check because it was getting ridiculous. The place had emptied out throughout the course of our dinner so it was not busy at all and it was just strudel. (Which we took to go. It too was lacking in flavor.)
We paid our bill (way too much for the amount and quality of food provided) and as we were leaving we finally saw our waiter who looked as if he was on his way out and done for the night, as well. UHM, SERIOUSLY???!!
Overall, for the time it took to get there, the money spent, and the hype surrounding this establishment, we expected slightly more and were extremely disappointed. Danke, aber nein danke! Tschüss!!
Food and atmosphere was wonderful and authentic!
In the past, service has been great. This experience wasn’t nearly as good. We had multiple servers and all seemed to think the other(s) were handling our orders. It,therefore, took forever to get refills, additional orders, etc.
Birthday dinner with friends. Nice place
It was very yummie. It tasted just like in germany. It was a little extensive but worth it!
The German chocolate brownie was to die for!
Doppelbach so smooth...
Ok, not the best meal there. Server a little overzealous. Asked for water with no ice because it was cold. Got water with extra ice so I was nearly choking trying to get the bread down. Order gemuse spaetzel. Iced raved about this in the past but this time it wasn’t mixed veggies, it was spaetzel and Brussels sprouts with no noticeable seasoning. Note to self and other diners-always ask what vegetables are included.
Great service, Jake & Adam, great food & ambiance!
The old stein has been a "Go-to" place forever! Fantastic German food. Great beer and wine. Great staff. Sue, Barry, and Everyone else. WE LOVE THE STEIN!!!
This visit was our annual "January Birthdays celebration".
Great authentic German food. Try the jagerschnitzel, it is fantastic
It was our first time at this restaurant, and we were very impressed. The food was excellent and the service prompt and friendly.
42 Wedding Anniversary
This is a fun and lively place with great food. I have almost no experience with German food and was amazed at how extensive the menu was. I opted for a wild boar sausage filled with cranberries, a special that nobody had ordered yet before according to our server. I took my chances and with an open mind was very pleased with the dish which was served on spaetzle with some potatoes, squash and sunchokes. I had a glass of New Zealand Pinot Gris which was pleasant. My son had pork chops and my husband had a sausage combo platter with bratwurst and BAUERNWURST. We shared a waffle/ice cream dessert. All in all, a new food experience and pleasant service. We did have a long wait for the food, so some bread would have been nice to include.
First visit to the Old Stein Inn!! We absolutely loved it! The decor and ambiance of the restaurant were great! Our server, Barry, was wonderful - on top of drink refills, anticipated our needs, made great food recommendations - just absolutely great! The food was excellent - our party of 6 enjoyed everything we ordered. We will definitely be back because there are a lot more things on the menu that we want to try! Thanks for a great visit!
Pretzel, wurst platter, smoked pork chop, spaetzel all great! But it’s the third visit where the German potato salad was horribly bland! Like not edible bad!
Beer is fantastic and atmosphere the best!
Please fix the German potato salad!
Wonderful experience as always!
We were introduced to Old Stein Inn just recently and were so impressed, we invited other friends to join us there for dinner a week later! Since my experience is limited, I cannot comment beyond that we have had delicious food, excellent service, and great fun for our two visits there. One visit was on a weekend night and, even with reservations, we waited 30 minutes for a table; based on others' feedback, this is a very popular spot so reservations are recommended. Worth the drive and the wait. The other visit was on Sunday evening and, although the restaurant was busy, we had a minimal wait. Will definitely go back.
We have been here many times and even though the chefs may change, the food is always top notch. Our service on this evening was slow and forced. Sit outside if you can. The beer garden is out of this world and the ambiance out there is lovely, even in winter.
The food was great. It took a long time to get it but the service was excellent and the staff there were really friendly. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our table to be ready. I would go back.
Awesome food and great music
The red cabbage was not good-spaetzlenot flavorful- service slow - charged my cc with the wrong order
Dining here all year round is repeatedly a fine memorable experience. Moving into the winter months provides a glimpse into showing how adept they are at serving fresh game in a delicate and complex manor. From their 10th tap to their rotating specials. . . .each visit is sure to be a unique yet familiar experience for a special occasion to family fare alike. Prost!
The food was delicious and the service was great!! Will be returning soon!
I have been craving Old Stein for 3 years! Finally got there and I couldn't have been more pleased! it was remodeled since the last time I was there. Ambiance was amazing, Stella was amazing, our waiter (Jake) was amazing, and the food and beer couldn't not have been any better! just what I needed! I cannot wait to go back!!
We have been coming to the Old Stein for decades. Usually, the service is top-notch. On this occasion, our server (great gal) was also the bartender. We watched her being torn between bar service and table service. This evening, I think both suffered a little as we had to wait for drinks and our tab at the end of the meal. Notwithstanding, we had a very good meal and the food was excellent, as always.
My cup was dirty and they didn’t even address it after I brought it up to the waiter. Still charged me $3 dollars for coffee in a dirty cup. Service was slow I think they were watching the game in the TV in the bar but then I wanted to also😜 The prices are high for a German restaurant. The Edelweiss in Virginia is superior and their prices are much better. There food is very good here though I cannot complain about that. The waiters are mostly high school kids so what do you expect . For an $80 meal I would like a professional waiter.
SO enjoy the authentic food and drinks at the Old Stein Inn!!
The enclosed beer garden area is a great addition. We haven't been to the restaurant for awhile, but enjoyed sitting in the more open area and socializing with family.
Second time at the Old Stein Inn. The food and service have been great both times. One of the only places in the metro area to get authentic German cuisine. Highly recommended.
We took another couple here to celebrate his birthday. They had never been to the Old Stein before, but they really enjoyed it. We sat outside. Originally they put us a little too close to the band to where we wouldn't be able to have a conversation with each other. We asked to move further way from the band, but still outside. It was perfect. We could carry on a conversation with each other, but still here the music. The band that played Saturday 1/13/18 was FANTASTIC as well. Bring them back...I would like to know the name of that band. The food was tasty as usual. The only down side was we had to ask 4 times to get some water for the table. Other than that it was a great night.
I am a huge Old Stein fan, and have been coming every couple months for 5+ years without a bad experience, until last weekend. I made a reservation with OpenTable for 6:30, since our favorite Polka band (Mike and the Continentals) were playing.
When I arrived, (wearing my Old Stein hoodie) we were led to the furthest back corner of the outside area. I asked if we could sit closer to the band, as there were 4-5 open tables nears the band. I was told no, those tables are reserved. Since we made a reservation, I was confused. I was told that I have to call (no Opentable) and specifically ask for those tables. I was not offered any alternate seating by the hostess, so we took upon ourselves to ask the bartender if we could sit in the bier bar area, to at least see the band. They said yes, and we let our the hostess know we moved tables. We were greeted 20 minutes later, and didn't get our first beers for half an hour. I brought my own mug, which was accidentally filled with beer someone else ordered at our table. We didn't get our appetizers for almost an hour, and entrees for over an hour and a half after sitting down.
I understand that it was a busy Saturday night, but Old Stein staff were not polite, and I've never had issues with seating or service in the past. This was my first bad experience after eating here over 50 times. I love the restaurant, and hope this doesn't happen again. To prevent this, I would recommend making it clear how guests can request seating preference, and double checking seating preference when they arrive.
Sylvia the accordion lady was not there which made us a bit sad. She is so much fun. Dinner and beer were still good but we like this place best when Sylvia is performing!
Samantha was our server and was fabulous. The food wasn’t as authentic as we had hoped but still very good. I suspect it was a bit “Americanized” to tone down the strong flavors that we came to love while stationed in Germany. The German beer was as amazing as I remember! We requested a simple dessert of ice cream and hot raspberries (a dessert we ate regularly in Germany) and the pastry chef was kind enough to create it for us.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!
Food was delicious, service was fast, beer was good, live music was excellent
