Old Stein Inn
The Old Stein is no run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Diners come from all over the Mid-Atlantic (or right around the corner) to this family-owned, Maryland gem to enjoy fun, food, friends—and, or course, a cold brew in a gemütlichkeit atmosphere. Eins, Zwei, Drei, G"suffa!
Saturaday 4-10pm; Bar open until 11pm
Sunday NOON to 9pm *Please contact the restaurant for outdoor Biergarten seating.
The Continentals are a lot less talented than they think they; it was way too loud for those of us unfortunate enough to be seated close to musical combo to enjoy our dining experience. I go to Old Stein Inn to enjoy German food and beer and company. The noise impeded all three.
Food and service are excellent. Live entertainment is too loud. Could not talk with family not seated next to me.
Wonderful time seeing Mike and the Continentals. 😊 Thank you!
Very nice atmosphere if seated “outside-outside”. There is also an inside -outside by the bar. Charcuterie plate with liverwurst, Pate, and other Meats was excellent. Great beer selections, of course, and live German Music fun. We tried jaeger schnitzel, short ribs and a crab cake. Peaches in grilled peach salad should have been more ripe, but everyone enjoyed their food.
Spur of the moment decision but one we did not regret. Yummy food, great service, fun ambience! A good time was had by all.
Everything’s always great at The Old Stein Inn. Don’t skip the crab and Muenster soup.
Love this place! Always look forward to going back.
Service was quick and friendly. Portions were good. Pork schnitzel was a little dry and tough. Potato pancakes needed additional seasoning. Food was good but as savory as I remember from my previous visits.
Food was amazing, almost as good as my Oma used to make, and the bar selection is pretty good also. Honestly, GO.....you truly won't regret it.
This is the best German food we have ever eaten. We have tried other place but always come back here. The quality of food is consistent , reasonable and the portion are large . Staff are extremely friendly.
We skipped the Biergarten and were seated, as requested, at a nice quiet booth, so noise level was quieter than usual ~ not a crowded night. Peach - arugula salad was yum ~ everyone enjoyed their meals ~ Jägerschnitzel (2); my chicken Schnitzel was very good, & I was delighted that asparagus was an option in lieu of the Spätzele...
Neighborhood hem....we come here occasionally for dinner....today was especially good. My wife had a schnitzel with a lite salad on top and a refreshing citrus dressing. She enjoyed it. Mine was the bauwnworst sausages with German potato salad and sauerkraut. It was excellent. We took the cream cheese cake home for desert...so good....The service was very good.
This place is a classic! Delicious traditional German fare plus other options, the bavarian pretzel appetizer is great, all of the sausages and schnitzel are first rate, the cabbage, kraut, and spaetzle are delicious. And save room for dessert!
Try the cheese board! It’s delicious.
Always a joy eating here - food is great, live music is terrific, great German beer selections - just all around fun time.
Restaurant was not crowded. Seated quickly. Server took drink orders but didn’t return for a while. When he returned we ordered an appetizer, fried pickles, and some bread. Pickles delivered by another server. Asked again for bread from the other server. Main server returned and we ordered the brat and bauernwurst. Mine was lukewarm. Took it home so I could eat it hot. Hate lukewarm food.
The food and beer was great. I had reserved "outside" beergarden seating, but actual table was in an enclosed area adjacent to the "outside" area. 85 degrees outside but quite warm inside. They need to install some useful fans (they have ceiling fans which are poor). Some seats have no back (stools, benches) which is ok for the under 30 set i guess. Service was spotty.
Food and beer was great (genuine) so we will go back, but take care of where to sit.
Excellent food and ambiance
Food was excellent but we were there on Father's Day and service was a bit slow. We ate outside and the bartender actually had to fill in and wait on our table. Not sure if short staffed or what. I gave service a (3) due to this but the bartender himself deserved a ( 5 ) because he was hustling trying to do his job and wait tables as well. Otherwise everything else was very good.
I am German and this place is good for non-Germans. The appetizers were great but main entrees were okay at best. The outside area is very spacious but there is very little air flow. The fans are on but air flow was not considered in the design.
I will try this place one more time but if the food is the same again then I will not make the 1.5 hour trip. Owners can contact me and I will explain.
This is my view of this place on this one visit only. Looking at the other reviews I understand things don't match.
I took my spouse to the Old Stein Inn for the first time for Father's Day. My spouse had been stationed in Germany for a couple weeks and fell in love with the food and the culture. The food lived up to that memory! Absolutely fantastic, authentic, german food. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. Lots of families there. Parking was a challenge, and I definitely recommend making reservations in advance.
We had a great time out in the Biergarten! The live entertainment of Heidi and the Heinat echo was fantastic! Really made it feel like we were back in Munich! Super fun!!
Excellent food. Our party enjoyed the live music (although it was a bit loud). The beer garden is always fun!
Have been to Old Stein a number of times and the food has always been outstanding. However, this time the potato pancakes were soggy, the spaetzle were way overcooked and mushy, and the schnitzel was undercooked. Waiter said that it was the normal chef, so no idea what happened but hope it is fixed next time!
Met with my brothers and a few friends for good German beer and food. Had a great time. Outdoor seating was wonderful and our server was outstanding. She was always on the lookout to see we were taken care of. The Jaeger Fries and Pork belly hash are two of the best" beer drinking" appetizers ever made!!
Must get - sausage platter appetizer
Wait staff were friendly, prompt, and thorough. The atmosphere is casual, open, conversational, with families, and couples mixed. The food is excellent. Well prepared, and plated. Fairly prompt. Everything we were served was delicious. We will definitely come back. And probably bring friends.
85th Birthday party
Wait staff very informed and helpful. Great beer sampler . Pork shank delish tender fall off the bone. Ample appetizers.
Always Nice there. Everyone loved there food. Nice to site outside.
The food was good. Service was ok.
Great authentic German food and beer! Very nice staff and excellent service.
A unique experience in all the best ways! Delicious homemade food, great service and a fun environment. Old Stein ALWAYS delivers. They make guests feel special. It’s like a trip to Munich! Also, they menu has options for every one and the specials are just that - special!
lively place, got to sit in the beer garden but the doors were closed. Food is great German authentic food, and service was great!
Having lived in Germany for five years Maybe my expectations were high. The restaurant and bar are very much like they are in Germany. The beer selection is very good and the ambiance was good. My really only knock was the schnitzel. Schnitzel in Germany is about as popular as buying a hamburger here in the US. Most places in Germany it pretty much tastes the same. The schnitzel here was not very good. Had a little to much breading on it and I don’t think they pounded it. Overall I loved the atmosphere and would go back again, but I would try something else on the menu.
The service and food was great.
Wonderful restaurant! Great for family and friends. The Weiswurst is phenomenal and the German chocolate brownie is extremely indulgent but delicious! Perfect, relaxed yet fun environment with live music.
We visited Old Stein for Mother's Day this year as we have been to Old Stein many times and always enjoyed the atmosphere. Once again we were not disappointed. The German food was excellent and the service was great. On this particular day there was an accordion player who came to our table. We will definitely return!
First time visit was enjoyable. Dinner with my 97 year old mom. Was a little noisy for her as we were near a table with some folks who were having a great time. Food was tasty and the beer was great. Much better experience than I had at a DC German restaurant. I will definitely return! Got to try other items on the menu.
The beers are excellent. The food was very good! The atmosphere is great, very open, bright, festive and friendly.
